    I remember going there 5 years ago, before you go into that room where it is, you see a short movie about the spaceshuttles development, and after this there are a few seconds where you can see the outlines of the spaceshuttle on the screen that the short movie was projected onto, i first thought that this was a cool artificial effect, but then the screen went up and the shuttle was hanging in front of me...

    It that even the real space shuttle Atlantis? It just does not seem like it would be safe to display a real one at a weird angle like that.

    Cruise in Space
    Los Angeles: Film star Tom Cruise will narrate the new IMAX film Space Station, IMAX said Monday. The giantscreen film due out in the spring documents the construction of the International Space Station. Twenty-five astronauts and cosmonauts trained as filmmakers used specially designed Space Cameras to shoot the film in space between December 1998 and July. The adventure takes audiences from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida to the station orbiting some 350 km above the earth. "The minute I saw the amazing 3D footage shot by the astronauts in space, I knew I had to be involved with this very special film," Cruise said.

    Hahah have you ever used a green machine? It sucks up urine and over time it gets so nasty and stained because urine crystallizes.
    Funny to me that whenever they show the urine suction machine up on the international space station it always looks in pristine condition as if it has never been used.
    They must have some pretty high-tech cleaning products with them, maybe they should market them on earth so my green machine can look brand new again.

      Nasa had fighter-trainers that flew formation with the shuttle on approach.

    • @DavidwatersproductionsLLC
      @DavidwatersproductionsLLC 5 лет назад +1

      Hi Grant, the sound you hear at 3:35 was the sound of the whoosh as STS-135 passed over a microphone set up by NASA tv. This was the final space shuttle mission, and the audio I used in this piece was from the live broadcast. The microphone volume was boosted to hear that sound. Keep in mind the space shuttle orbiter is gliding at more than 200 miles an hour, which is not a silent ride.
      NASA tv spent years perfecting the audio for their live tv broadcast to the public of launches and landings, and fine tuned where they placed microphones, and how loud they set the volume. If you listen to STS-1's launch, the sound is too loud during liftoff, and you don't hear the "sparklers" well which ignite any gas pre-launch. In later years, the audio for television was perfected where the sound of the sparklers was captured perfectly, and the much louder sounds of the booster ignition was captured just right, all thanks to a spectacular audio visual team's hard work in placement of audio equipment, and knowing what levels to set everything to. You can hear some of those sounds at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex when you take a tour. They have the sonic booms audible very near where you'll come nose to nose with Space Shuttle Atlantis!

    Oh, sure - but can you get INSIDE the Atlantis? Nooooooooooo... I always said NASA could make a nice pile for itself by modifying its trainers and simulators from the Apollo and Shuttle eras so that ANYONE could climb aboard and run the same programs the astronauts did. (At least they're loosening up a bit with a couple of Shuttle simulators.)

    • @Galastin

      The shuttle was an awesome vehicle and program, but for a lot of reasons it didn't make sense. The biggest disappointment is that NASA didn't have a replacement vehicle ready for manned spaceflight, which is a bit of a downer for us as a country.

    • @nutellafoxvideos7350
      @nutellafoxvideos7350 4 года назад

      currently THE most dangerous human spacecraft to date. Solid Rocket Boosters should NEVER EVER EVER EVVEEEERRR be used on a crew mission for the simple fact that if something goes wrong with the boosters, you can't turn them off. You can't get away from them until they're done. Even the Shuttle's abort modes were only possible AFTER the SRBs were staged.
      If it had been different, and instead were some equivalent Liquid fueled engines with a couple sensors, Challenger would've been able to make a safe escape away from the malfunctioning boosters if they had detected an anomaly in time before the leak would've made the fuel tank explode.
      The other issue is having the SSMEs that were vectoring at an angle to get the right thrust vector through the entire system's center of mass. Having to correct at an angle like that is really inefficient due to the fact that a good chunk of the energy was having to go towards just keeping the overall orientation. Sure its not noticable but with how the math works out basically that vector on the engines is being used for something other than going to space.
      Overall, it was a cool idea and helped with a lot of scientific endeavors, but it was really really impractical and not able to pull it's weight.
