Yeah, Shale was in the DA book, Asunder, which happens a year before Inquisition, and in it, Shale and Wynne were searching for this guy that might have info on how to restore Shale back to her dwarven form, but things didn't work out. Still, we don't know if Shale might've found a way between Asunder and Inquisition. We have to wait to see. Also, those epilogue slides don't count. Many of them have been retconned.

Sten also calls the Warden Kadan, if you befriend him. If I remember correctly, Kadan means "that which is close to the heart", a term of endearment. I think you use it for people you respect as well as people you love:-)

No, you'll have to come back every now and then to hear their dialogue. The Proving walkway is one of several places that trigger party comments often.

@JaggedMastermind Actually, it takes more than just 1 dwarf to make a Golem, so Shale was possibly mixed in with 10+ other dwarfs. Possibly all male, except for Shale herself, she was probably the strongest of them all hence why she's in control :o
lol I loved watching Morrigan and Alister go at it, my favorite is when we're at Loathering and we I go over the bridge and Allister is asking about me and Morrigan, loved that back and forth xD Alas I threw Alister to the side because I was forced to take in Wynne because of the Tower [so I could keep the only fuckin rogue I had]. Dang that is a lot red lines under my whole post above this part of it, Spell check needs an update xD

Sten and Shale frighten me. Especially when Morrigan begins bugging Sten about if he thinks about her. And Shale is so violent for one so... practically-minded.
When you talk to him, you have to be very quick and blunt. If he says "no" when you ask him about something, just go with it. He also seems to like it when you compliment him, even if it's meant to come off as sarcastic("What where you doing in that cage?" "Sitting" "Very funny" "Thank you")
@tehmackness They're actually great characters; they're kind of rude at the beginning, but Shale and Sten both show they're kinder sides later on in the game. Shale's hilarious.

Dragon Age has a lot of refferences too The Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings doesn't it? I mean the Quanari leash their Mages and soo do th Seanchan. Many of the names are simmilair (ex.Loaghain). And if you have Oghren in youre party when you free Shale, you can command her to 'toss Oghren' and he will reply something like'There will be no Dwarve tossing today!' Just some fun facts

@CelticDragon0 She never did for me. I'm not sure if I bugged the quest or not, but I left shale and killed the golem leader so we could make a golem army. After that, Shale stayed with me, but the option to find out her past never resurfaced.
@tehmackness you don't have to. The code for the Stone Prisoner goes free with a DVD with the game. It must be somewhere inside the box, I suppose (I don't know exactly where, I have a STEAM version).
There is a conversation glitch that makes a loop, so if you do that a bunch of times it can get his approval to 100. I think its when you ask about whyhe came to fereldan, then keep asking why are the qunari worried about it and answer him with because I'm a grey warden. Keep doing that and you get about 4 approval each time.

But as I turn around... I see teh back of a guard and in front of him... a woman on her knees.... I walked out and closed the door.... not what I expected XD a game full of surprises... also never seen Sten talk so much before XD

Try locking doors and casting AOE Spell into the area where the bosses are. It works like a charm :) Also, get both Morrigan and Wynne to learn Cone of cold and just keep your enemies frozen. Armor means nothing, making well use of spells are party memebers = 95% of the work, 5% = armor.
