I had an RTX 4090 and a Ryzen 9 5950X and have on 4k with FSR and all max out ~70 fps outside and 50 fps in rooms...wtf
The performance for the game is really bad...
3080 and a 5600x at 1440p and really surprised how much I'm struggling to run this well. Nvidia need to come out with DLSS for sure.
check nexus. there’s a mod by Puredark.
@@masterskinpipe yeah you can, it can just cause some flickering issues from what I've seen/read. Nvidia will turn it all around I'm sure. Almost all FPS comparisons being done on RUclips are showing some 10-20+ FPS higher on AMD cards vs Nvidia, all screams AMD optimization.
same config here, i installed the dlss mod and gained 4-5 fps, and it looks so much better than fsr, i recommend you try
I have the flickering issue with FSR2 right now.@@Dynasty1818
My 3070 is very depressed while playing this game.
Something to note is that DLSS will maybe provide you with 5 more FPS. The issue with FSR is not that DLSS markedly beats it in improving your FPS, it's that it looks so much better while doing so.
Thank you! That was professional and just on point. Sub 👍
Dang already 🔥
Thanks, so much man this helped so much! Like night and day difference went from 30 40fps on high settings to like 50 and up was hitting 90 fps in some areas and sensitivity helped as well great video
Hey man thank you for providing me with a good baseline to work with!
Truee thx broooo
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. Excellent explanations of what each element does and your suggested setting have improved my performance ten fold. Im still running a very aged machine so i was worried that nothing would really work but following your suggestions made it run better and, more hilariously, look better.
Thanks mate using these settings now 😊
That grainy old TV visual I was getting was annoying. So thank you. Why is that even an option?
wow thank you for this
it runs smooth, looks beautiful and I can now aim properly lol
Same bro the game looks great for me now
Specs?
I created a video to run on ultra settings with low specs pc like my GTX 1050 Ti laptop.
I got a video up if anyone interested
I can play it with AMD Radeon Pro W5500, but no matter whether it is set to the lowest or highest setting, the screen still sometimes lags when playing complex scenes. Maybe there is an option that can make it smoother?
dlss is better than fsr i dont know what you mean
My system CPU i7-10700F GPU RTX 3090 OC from ROG RAM 64GB installed in the Corsair Obsidian 1000D case and I play in ultra settings
I’ve been chugging at like 45 FPS running pretty much max settings, I think only because that was its default. Film grain on 100 booting the game up is jarring, only thing i changed was cutting that number in half before the intro dialogue was over
Just as an FYI I made a performance mod that doesn't decrease visual fidelity called "Optimal Performance" I recommend pairing it with these settings, it's free FPS.
Apparently I just got lucky I run on ultra settings with my laptop and I've never seen it go below 60 frames per second except for one occasion where I used the console command for infinite money and I built the largest ship possible with nothing but hubs and it managed to go down to about 45 frames per second
thx
Nicely done Sir, straight to the point and factual.
thank you for the help. a lot of the display settings looked kind of obvious to me but there were a few that i didn't realize were screwing with performance. i have similar specs to you and my pc runs every other game insanely smooth but this game isn't optimized very well.
The high preset is perfect. I'm on a 7900 xt and can run it on ultra. Sure it looks good but so does the high preset.
Imagine having 3080 and using mid settings... what a trash iptimatizqtion on pc...
Is it even worth buying this at the moment, I also have a 3080
@4D1989 in my opinion NO. I have 32gb ram, ssd, 3070ti and get 30fps on high mid.. in open spaces. Optimization is trash af
I have 3080 the game is great im having a blast .. but the performance is really bad i think i cant play it right now ..
3090 here and I feel with you. I wait what patches will bring.
@@Modesso something tells me there's more to unpack with your statement lol.
I'm running an ssd, 3060ti, 64gb ram and pull consistent 60+fps on max settings lol(with the 75% scaling)
Chiming in for those out there like me who have a pretty good PC but a terrible display: I'm using a $150 32" Element smart TV, and it is dogwater. My PC is pretty good. RTX 3060, 64GB of RAM, 12th Gen Intel i7-12000K. The issue is that while the rig could likely handle a stagnant 60fps, the refresh rate of the TV just isn't anywhere near enough and it ends up with a lot of screen tearing, even with v-sync enabled. The solution I've found is to crank every setting to the absolute maximum to tank your FPS down to the refresh rate of the display. I'm still getting screen tearing, but the motion blur and lower frame rate definitely helps. And I still get a good looking game as a plus.
Why? I don't know what card you're using , but Im using a 6800xt with ultra settings on 1440p and it runs great.
Quick and simple guide, thank you good sir.
Your amazing thanks man! 😃
My game crashes when I try to turn off VSync how do I counter that?
I got a 2080… getting 20 FPS. But my kid did spill juice on it a year ago. I think it’s about to die on me : /
i ahve a 2080 super and get 60+ inside buildings and about 45ish outside
30 fps for 1060 6go all médium settings fsr actif
Did you eat said child? That is inexcusable
how does one spill juice on a GPU?
but it depents what GPU, CPU, and RAM you have BIG TIME i think the best way is wehn you have a nividia gpu to juste geforce experiance and make the first settings from starfield to optemize via geforce experiance and then test it and after every change you make test it it takes some time but then you see what option have a good or bad impact and you lern how to do it for further games. but Great video
anyone else’s game crash the second they turn vsync off? and when i boot it back up vsync is on… very annoying
That changed absolutely nothing for me so I just put everything back in high.
Yeah, I tested almost everything and not a single setting makes a REAL difference. The only exception is Shadow Quality. You definitely don't want that on Ultra.
You're probably being capped by the CPU, I'm getting 70% usage on my RTX 3060 TI most of the time with similar settings on open areas. Shitty dev optimization, I can get up to 120 FPS indoors and constantly get 50 fps outdoors on 1440p with DLSS. This game isn't even supposed to be that demanding, Cyberpunk has way better graphics and doesn't run as bad as Starfield. Thank god for Gamepass, otherwise I would have refunded this game immediately.
very helpful thank you !
What if vrs is grayed out an off
17 7700k and a 1080 I’m on low everything and it’s ass to run gonna have to get a new pc just to play this game
Nvidia or amd card?
I have all ticked checked except for my memory ram which is 6gb and I’m only using an MSI gaming laptop cause I couldn’t afford a pc set up yet I was able to run the game but it usually freezes (not as bad as diablo 4 though) but yeah is there anything else I could do? Weirdly enough the performance got better when I increased the graphics just like what happened on Remnant 2 for me the lower the settings are the more the game performs worse.
Sounds to me like your CPU is the bottleneck here. When youre increasing the graphics youre offloading that processing to the GPU. Hope that makes sense.
Mine is already in the lowest settings but i still get 20 fps max
MFs really out here doing "Best settings for FPS" guides without even showing their specs or a before/after.
1. Main specs are in the description of the video if you actually looked.
2. Showing FPS before and after on my specific setup serves no purpose since everyone's mileage will vary. It's a 10 minute quick video to help people out that will improve your performance assuming you aren't bottlenecked.
Complainers gonna complain though I guess 🤷♀️
@@FourEyesGames I'll be honest, I was disappointed that at the end of the video no gameplay shown with the original and new settings were shown, irrespective of setup displaying this would have demonstrated how effective your optimised settings were both on the improvement in FPS and how they impacted the visuals. This is a fairly standard practice when creating a video such as this.
I'll take that into account for the future
@@Mathias_101 I agree.
@@FourEyesGames Brilliant, I appreciate the time you have spent to make this video.
It provides people a good starting point for getting more FPS out of a game that appears to have difficulty running great on even higher end cards.
That 10min mark for the video lol
How do I fix this
My I7 13700k + RTX 4080 1440p struggling to get 60fps is towns is actually hilarious. Like what PC’s do these devs play on? NASA level stuff? $1200 GPU and I can barely play on 60fps. I mean I’m the open world it hits 100 or sometimes more but it should still be 60+ in towns I’m hitting 55 in some areas
Hello, i have a 3070 and this game seems to be capped to 30fps, or atleast it seems to be stuck at that number and never going below 30 it's a 100% stable 30fps so my gpu should definitely be able to push more fps but no Matter what settings i put and even if i pert Nvidia control panel to use highest refresh rate possible the game stays at 30fps and it's just unplayable
did youı try to turn-off vsync? Most games lock vsync to 60 fps but starfield is weird one maybe they lock it to 30fps.
And I want to lower the fps because I'm locked at 60 😅
@@guillefranco31 Why on earth would you wanna lower your framerate?
???@@guillefranco31
that is v-sync without triple buffering. It means your fps will stick to the next divisible x2 number. You are probably in a 60 hz monitor and it goes to 30 if it can reach 60 stable...
Can't turn off anti aliasing and no texture quality option, wtf
Finally a game I can challenge my 4090 on
Every time i turn off the v-sync my game crashes
i have played hogwarts at 90-100fps on my rtx2080 at 1080p on ultra setting but this dogshitt game can't even pass 40-50fps mark on high

@@JonoLB It would make a big difference with RTX since from ehat I understand, VRS deals with transparent textures, like spider webs, maybe glass and other simular textures. It could be that it improves performance on grassy planets but I havent made it yet. So keep looking for info

with a g-sync monitor you can leave v-sync off as it actually lowers and raises ur refresh rate of the monitor to match your fps so you dont get screen tearing. i use a gsync monitor and have never got screen tearing and i also never have v-sync on. thanks for the tips helped a lot with my fps
Cool tips , i need to try this . Currently i have 60-80 fps but feels not so smooth .
side note, you actually can get screen tearing with a gsync monitor if your framrate exceeds the max refresh of the monitor which is where you would use either an adaptive vsync from the nvidia control panel that only vsync's when fps exceeds refresh or my personal favorite is frame limit rendering to a few frames less than max so gsync is always active.
@ArcAios26 I did not know you could get screen tearing a g sync monitor if your fps exceeds you refresh rate. Thank you for the tip 👍
I would add though if you have massive swings in fps lock it to the lowest average so go to the busiest space find that and lock it for the program in the control panel like for my rig I can run it uncapped and see 30 to 60 ultra preset so for stability of the feel I cap it at 30 for the hell ofnit and its just fine is it better at 60 sure is fps dips more annoying than locked 30? Absolutely
If you're not gonna show us the FPS of before and after , please change the thumbnail of your video saying you got 144fps I got baited by that
I have a 5950X and a 3090. I dont really want to turn down most options to low to get a playable framerate (for me at least stable 60 FPS). I decided to wait what patches will bring for optimization. Maybe they add FSR 3 after it launched. It´s a sp game and I dont miss anything until I start it. I play ME Andromeda with mods atm. Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen are near too.
As someone who has played videogames my whole life with low budget computers, Do not fear the word "Low", We assume that it means compromise to something bad for quality, even tho the low doesnt always mean that its compromised, its just a word for the lowest setting even when its not really removing the quality to the point that we even see whats bad.
No joke, watch the Hardware Unboxed video where they compare of all these settings. I promise it's wild how little things visually change from Ultra to High to Medium. Wilder still -- the performance gains. Personally, I don't agree that FSR2 has been great in this game, everything looks fuzzy and leaves behind shadowy artifacts.
@@pablomarquez5021oh yes fsr is a joke in this game. Literally didn’t help me at all. All my settings are on high and I’m just dealing with the bad frames. They have a 15 gb update tmr for launch day so I’m expecting it to run much better. I’ll be pissed if it doesn’t
I'd rather set the quality of shadow, volumetric lighting to high or medium and few other settings rather than using image scaling. Native rendering is the best.
Yes a crowd density is more CPU heavy than GPU so low - very high is barely no fps difference if your cpu isn’t bottlenecking.
This is all making me super nervous. My laptop is i7 12650 16gb ram and 3050ti. I’m just hoping for 60fps at 1080p on medium settings. Any chance I’ll get that??!!
Pray for stable 30fps on low my friend.
@@looming_ I hope that is a little tongue-in-cheek. I hope Bethesda has something in mind to fix this issue. Absurd to think that you need to have $1000 computer in order to play anything at medium. Than shame on them.
@@scottmersereau4816 not kidding at all sadly.
Impossible. You can get barely 30 fps at New Atlantis.
i was trusting your opinion on those settings until you said most of the time FSR2 is better than DLSS in most games.. now I doubt you've even checked the visual impact of the other options...
In most games I have had experience with recently, FSR2 has been better than DLSS. The DLSS ghosting issues have plagued many games. When the ghosting isn't a problem, DLSS is better.
I'm going to test the DLSS mod today and see if it is better than FSR2 🙂
@@FourEyesGamesuse 2.5.1 dlss version always its the best no ghosting and looks and performs the same as every version after it
Same here, trust vanished after he said fsr is better. Hardware unboxed did a test and dlss is vastly superior. Switch guns real quick in starfield with fsr on. You'll see the ghosting outline of your gun remain on screen.
This video was helpful, although like others have said, FSR2 is far inferior in image quality to DLSS.

Welcome to 2023, where you, as the owner of an f-ing 3090, better just set every graphics setting to low... Well done, Bethesda!
I used to like your older videos where you would actually shoe before and after results. E.g from high settings FPS Vs optimised settings FPS.
Now the thumbnails are just clickbait stock images.. showing 144 FPS HAHAHA.
Please, I admire you effort - but stop taking shortcuts and actually Backup the subjectivity of your recommendations please!
Mans just doing what works, you may not like it, but the clicks say otherwise :/
@K1LLW1N below basically answered how I would answer.
YT is incredibly competitive in this niche and I have enough case studies with a proven concept that gets good feedback overall.
Putting 60fps -> 80fps just does not grab attention to the thumbnail like known numbers 144fps. I even give the disclaimer in the video to not expect gigantic gains but that I do my best to give recommendations.
At the end of the day, the video is here to improve people's performance in the game and this video definitively does that.
Stretching/emphasising the focal point of the video in the thumbnail, is the meta on YT now, whether we like it or not.
Fair enough. But can you at least show before and afters with your own setup? Will give some more credibility of an increase, even if it's 10 or 30 FPS increase.
You also say things like "this setting will hit your FPS", in this case you can literally turn it on and off and note the user at the FPS gain turnin it off.
Just add some more objectivity to the videos was more my point. Looking forward to the next ones.
I have RTX 3060 12 Gb …. During this process set up, my Nvidia FPS was showing 74-75 … as soon as turned off VSync the FPS shot up to 165
I have an rtx 3080, i5 13500 and 16gb ram ddr4 3200....at 1440p and max settings with fsr disabled i gen 40-60 fps in New Atlantis, without any hitches.
So no, i don't think i will use fsr...maybe an 80% scaling if things become too extreme on some planet...didn't play too much yet.
I agree that some settings are too much performance hit, so i might tweek the shadows too.
put a mfing side by side of the before and after
