Very very very good! Dear you Andrew, 5 star for you, thank you very much. Now i can know how to use Past Simple tense. Again, Thank you very much, very much.

Hi Andrew, I am confused with ( be verbs with the uses of do)I wasn’t attend to the meeting yesterday or I didn’t attend to the meeting yesterday ?which sentence is right? Thank you for this video.. I learned a lot. Very clear explanation as usual.
Thank you Andrew for share your good job. I enjoyed your video because I studied a few of the English language six months ago buy now with your video I refresh a little of English in my mind. :-) thank you.
Hello Andrew Crown! Thank you very much for this lesson. I just joined your channel. My writing, reading and listening are good. But my speaking is bad. I can speak 50%. But I speak incorrect. Coz I don't know the grammer. I found out it has 26 tenses in english. I scheduled I would learn one tense every day. Then I can speak correctly. You teach very very clearly. I'm so exicted join your channel. Again thank you!
Hello, could you make a video when you explain how pronounce regular verbs in past form? I´ve always had problems with that. I hope that you can read this. You are a great teacher. Regards from Mexico
I started to study english grammar one month ago.I'm following you're english lessons and I find it helpful. I hope I can stand up to english interview as soon as possible. Thank you for all!
Hi Andrew, that's a great lesson . but actually i have a question: Mark Waited all morning! how can we use the past simple here . i think we should use the past perfect continuous like Mark has been waiting all morning ! right ?
Hi Andrew, thank you for your videos, they are very useful. I've got a question, a doubt: Yesterday it rained all day. Yesterday it had been raining all day. Which one is correct?
Hi Andrew, your lessons are absolutely fantastic. Could you please, teach us to how to write complex sentences using who, which ,that,whom,......ect. (joining 2,3 sentences) Further more I want to know, how to spell words correctly. (We are quite straggling with spelling.) Thank you.
Dear Andrew! Thnak You for Your lessons! Its really helpfull to get ready for my english language exam:) Yesterday i did my yoga and pilates exercices. I didnt go to the doctor, as i did few days before. Did You do any sport yesterday? Best wishes from Hungary
Ula Zéja Thanks for your comment. All of your examples are correct, well done! Yes, I did a bit of sport yesterday. I had a long, brisk walk after work. :) Andrew
Hello Andrew, I am from Brazil. I have improving my English level a lot with your videos. I have a doubt. Is there any difference between ''Past Simple Form and Past Simple Tense"? Best Regards
Hi Smalley Reyes. There is no difference between Past Simple form and Past Simple Tense. So, we can use both expression to describe them. Have a nice day.
Dear Andrew, thank you very much! This video was very good... I'm a beginner student and your videos help me. I am going to look at more your videos ... :)
Thank you so much for this comprehensive video on the Past Simple. I have a question about the verb "transfer". The Oxford dictionary mentions the verb "transfer" to be made of two syllables and 'stressed on the second', in both British and American English, and as such, it writes the past form as "transferred", with two r's. But in this video, you mention it's not stressed on the second syllable. Is "transfered" (with a single 'r') correct in British English? One more thing. How do I break a word into syllables? I find it really hard to determine how many syllables a word is made up of. Do you happen to have done a video on "syllables"? If not, I would very much appreciate if you do one.
+Abdul Quadir Hello and thanks for the comment and question and sorry for the delay in replying to you. I have been on holiday. It was a mistake when I made the video. If you watch the video with the screen annotations, you will see the correction. ("transferred" is the correct form and the second syllable is stressed.) If you understand IPA (phonetic transcripts), then it is easier to identify the syllables in a word. I explain IPA here: ruclips.net/video/o8KppNXfx2k/видео.html Best wishes, Andrew
Crown Academy of English Thank you so much for clarification. Would you do videos on the "Present Perfect Continuous" and "Future Continuous"? I find them difficult to understand. Have a nice day.
U good teacher because now Iam learn about past for my college but Iam learn about past simple iknow afew but i learn more for past u good. Iam now lcan write about past good for me in the uk .
Thanks Andrew for the lesson, but I have 2 questions 1) I read your comment to sui sui08 about the example you have used in the lesson. You mean the example isn't correct? 2) In the sentence " Yesterday my children were happy because they went to the park " why you use past tense and not past perfect. The reason is the time "yesterday"?
Maria Christodoulou Hi Maria, thanks for your comment and questions. 1)No the example is correct. This sentence is correct with either the past perfect or past simple. The past perfect is perhaps slightly better in very strict English grammar but past simple is certainly correct and this example sentence is to learn the correct form. 2)The context is: the moment they arrived at the park, they became happy and then they stayed happy all day. If they went to the park in the morning and were only happy after, then we could say "Yesterday my children were happy because they had been to the park." Best wishes Andrew
Hello. I was wondering what the difference was between these two sentences. 1. What were you doing at 8 o'clock yesterday? 2. What did you do at 8 o'clock? As I know, Past Continuous refers to an action which was in progress at the specific time. What about simple past? Please let me know if you have enough time. What about doing a grammar lesson with comparing past simple and past continuous?
Thank you very much. I like so much of British accent. I am doing English classes, but I'm having so many difficulties to lost my British accent. I grow up listening British music and I ended up taking your accent. And in the courses in Brazil, the classes are in American English. My friends laugh of me. :d
Excellent, I am glad that you like my lessons. I think it is a matter of preference between the British and American accent but Americans often say they really like the British accent. :) Thanks for the comment. Best wishes, Andrew
Hi! Thank you so much for this lesson on the past simple! I have a question regarding the lesson. It's about a when clause and the past simple. In one of the parts of the video there's this example sentence : _"When Mark woke up, he shaved."_ And it says that Mark woke up first and then he shaved. So the woke up was finished first. But can I use the same structure, which is the past simple in both of the clauses, to mean that two actions happened at the same time ? For example: Let's say, I worked as a manager for 5 years and at the same time my friend studied French for 5 years. I would like to tell the listener that I worked at the same time as my friend studied French and for the same length of time (5 years). To express this idea, Is it possible to use the past simple in both of the clauses ? The sentence : _"When I worked as a manager, my friend studied French."_ Is it possible ? Many Thanks 🙏

Thank you so much for these wonderful, useful and important posts, but I think there is one more use of the simple past tense that you haven't mentioned here, that itis :to use it for hapitual and repeated actions in the past.Thanks.
Hi Mr. Andrew and thanks for the great video.I have two questions: If I want to write a comment or a complement about your videos, should I use the past or the present tense? How could I know this verb is of one syllable or more and stressed in the first or final syllable? Please explain it to me or tell me if there is any book can help. Regards
amel aliraq Hello again. 1) There are lots of ways you can give a compliment about a video. It depends on what we want to say and the context. Examples:"I really like this video." (present simple) or "These videos are really helping me." (present continuous) or even "This video helped me prepare for my IELTS exam." (past simple) 2)If you learn the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), then you will be able to read and understand the phonetic transcripts (including syllables) in dictionaries. I have a video about this: International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) | English Pronunciation Best wishes Andrew
As always a great explanation, Andrew! I am just wondering about the last example which is, my parents didn't like my new car. Why do we use didn't. it seems like the action didn't occurred at specific time. I mean I am not able to identify, from the sentence, that his parents decided that they don't like his new car at the specific moment. Isn't it my parents haven't liked my new car, because we don't know when the decision occurred. Again, thanks a lot for the professionally made videos.

Thanks Andrew for the lesson, but I have 2 questions
1) I read your comment to sui sui08 about the example you have used in the lesson. You mean the example isn't correct?
2) In the sentence " Yesterday my children were happy because they went to the park " why you use past tense and not past perfect. The reason is the time "yesterday"?

I think it is a matter of preference between the British and American accent but Americans often say they really like the British accent. :)
Thanks for the comment.

It was very Interesting
Hi! Thank you so much for this lesson on the past simple!
I have a question regarding the lesson.
It's about a when clause and the past simple.
In one of the parts of the video there's this example sentence :
_"When Mark woke up, he shaved."_
And it says that Mark woke up first and then he shaved. So the woke up was finished first.
But can I use the same structure, which is the past simple in both of the clauses, to mean that two actions happened at the same time ?
For example:
Let's say, I worked as a manager for 5 years and at the same time my friend studied French for 5 years. I would like to tell the listener that I worked at the same time as my friend studied French and for the same length of time (5 years).
To express this idea, Is it possible to use the past simple in both of the clauses ?
The sentence : _"When I worked as a manager, my friend studied French."_
Is it possible ?
Many Thanks 🙏
Thank you for the lesson.
Спасибо.Все понятно очень хорошо.
Thanx Andrew your videos helped me a lot.
Now I'm able to understand different tenses :D

thank you crown Academy of English
It's really helped me
Thank you so much for these wonderful, useful and important posts, but I think there is one more use of the simple past tense that you haven't mentioned here, that itis :to use it for hapitual and repeated actions in the past.Thanks.
Hi Mr. Andrew and thanks for the great video.I have two questions:
If I want to write a comment or a complement about your videos, should I use the past or the present tense?
How could I know this verb is of one syllable or more and stressed in the first or final syllable?
Please explain it to me or tell me if there is any book can help.
Regards
amel aliraq Hello again. 1) There are lots of ways you can give a compliment about a video. It depends on what we want to say and the context. Examples:"I really like this video." (present simple) or "These videos are really helping me." (present continuous) or even "This video helped me prepare for my IELTS exam." (past simple)
2)If you learn the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), then you will be able to read and understand the phonetic transcripts (including syllables) in dictionaries. I have a video about this: International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) | English Pronunciation

"transfer" stressed in the second syllable and hence when used in past tense, the final "r" must be doubled before -ed: transferred

Hi Ohn Mar, the difference between Past Simple and Past perfect continuous is: if you say I studied Engineering for 3 years that’s mean this action is finished, you no longer study, you stopped. But if you say I had been studying that’s mean you continue studying and you have evidence that you are studying you didn’t finish to study. To sum up: past simple is for finished action in the past whereas, Past Perfect continuous is for actions happen in the Past but didn’t finish, continuous in the past, had been happening. Have a nice day. Hi from London .
