    Hi there, I’m sitting the maths paper this Friday and find your videos very helpful. Just a quick question in relation to complex numbers and something you mentioned in this video. I am aware that when u multiply something by “i” it rotates anti-clockwise through the origin at 90 degrees. Does this mean that if you were to multiply by “-i” that it would rotate clockwise through the origin at 90 degrees? Also, what happens when you multiply by i^2? I ask this in the context of when you are asked to interpret an argand diagram. Many thanks, your videos are equally informative and helpful :)

    • @SimpleScienceandMaths
      @SimpleScienceandMaths  3 года назад +4

      Hi Darragh, yep that's exactly it! And when you multiply by i^2 it's a 180 degree rotation (direction doesn't matter for that). Thanks for watching and best of luck in your exams 👍

    • @MaxPicAxe
      @MaxPicAxe 3 года назад +2

      And if you think about it, i^3 is 270 degrees, which is equivalent to minus 90 degrees. And i^3 can be simplified to "-i", therefore "-i" goes minus 90 degrees (90 degrees clockwise)

    For proving the cosine rule, does it have to be in a unit circle or can you just use a triangle? We did it with a triangle but some people are telling me otherwise

    • @SimpleScienceandMaths
      @SimpleScienceandMaths  5 лет назад

      I'm not 100% sure but I would suspect either way is fine, as long as your proof holds true it should be fine. I'll send an email to someone who will know the answer and let you know

    • @seanloughlin2384
      @seanloughlin2384 5 лет назад +1

      I use unit circle anyway with one vertex at the origin another on the circle and another vertex outside the circle on the x axis. You dont need the unit circle for the sine rule tho

    • @SimpleScienceandMaths
      @SimpleScienceandMaths  5 лет назад

      Yeah that's the way I do it too. I suspect that the other way is fine but I've emailed someone in the SEC to confirm, awaiting a reply and will let you know if they get back to me.

      @@SimpleScienceandMaths i use a normal triangle too. So I'd say you're okay. Everyone in my school does it that way.

    I'm doing Higher Level Maths for the junior cert and I find it fun but very difficult, the Algebra chapters are fine but I can't grasp Algebrabraic Factors. There just so confusing. I also do Higher Level Science(I study Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Earth and Space)and it is a piece of pie. I even got 89% on my 2nd year summer exam in it.
    Science Score(Summer Exam):89%
    Maths Score(Summer Exam):54%

      Practice as much as you can with the factors. There's a few different ways of doing them so you can pick whatever one you find easiest. The box method is an easy way if you find them hard. I don't have a video on it but there's loads out there if you look
