I've had an M-36 for about a year now, and of all the acoustics I have ever owned (there have been too many to admit), it is unequivocally my favorite. I will never part with it. Went to several stores, initially convinced I would walk away with a long-coveted D-35. I kept getting drawn back to this M-36 and ultimately just had to have it. Beautiful, rich tone and a complete joy to play every time I pick it up. Wonderful model.

The M-36 is a fantastic guitar. Mine is from 2014 and the sound and balance is great…

Love my Martin M-36 truly the unsung hero of the Martin line! Bought mine largely on Diane's recommendation here! Beautifully balanced sound!

Scott Connors how do you find the comfort of this compared to say a D-35. I was looking at the D-35, but this one really interests me. Good for strumming and fingerpicking

I own an M38 which Ive owned since 1977 and the story I heard about the origins was that luthiers had been taking the 1930's Martin arch tops and putting flat tops on them modifying the necks. Martin located the old molds for the arch top bodies and launched the M series guitars. My M38 has the sweetest sound and is a really versatile instrument that comes into its own in a recording studio. It has a two piece back and some tasteful pearl inlays around the sound hole. My neck is Mahogany Vikki but its also 37 years old.

This is my dream acoustic. I had an opportunity to buy one in 2016 for a great price and I still don't know why I didn't. I could've put it on a credit card. I'll get one one day soon.

I enjoyed your perspective on that guitar. I just played one today. Might buy it. Have a D28, too..but like said, and I agree wholeheartedly, ..it is much more versatile. Great acoustic 'voice'. I need a guitar for fingerstyle that will shine in the recording studio...as well as at home while practicing. Only question: Exactly what is the specie of wood being used for the neck? Martin describes it as "select hardwood". Thanks.

I've never read or heard that the 3 piece backs actually give added "bass response." Not sure that's accurate, but thanks for all of the other info.

According to a video I watched a Martin rep said that a 3 piece back is stiffer than a two piece back, thus they were able to thin the bracing by 20% which increases bass response.

This is descended from the M38 that Matt Umanov made for David Bromberg in New York.

btw this woman is possibly the most annoying person Martin could have possibly have hired.
