Data Nerds, I need your help!! I'm looking for fellow data nerds that landed their data jobs WITHOUT having ANY degree. 📜
If you (or someone you know) did this, fill out (or share) this form 👉🏼forms.gle/V5ENE9gUuAm6db5F6
well give me some time. Not only don't I have no degree I started this process while in a homeless shelter and have no job and 2 years and 3 months to complete this before my government housing runs out.
Is there is way I can get a list of those programs on your super Mario board?
@@claudiakramer4516 I don't have a list typed out, so sorry for this
My interview is tomorrow !! Hope to be able to fill out the form!!
You don't need to master every single tool that is out there. Once you land a job, they will probably train you for a particular technology, programming language, etc. If you are good at the basics, and with a few projects to showcase your skills, that's more than enough to get a job. Also remember soft skills are extremely important. If you don't know how to communicate your findings from your analysis, do a right presentation, tell a simple but effective story to engage your audiance, then you are screwed.
It's an honor to be framed :D
It's what gets me up in the morning! 😜
Hey Luke, I’m in the process of changing careers to be a data analyst. I’m currently taking Google’s Data analytics professional certificate course on coursera. I’m on module 7 of 8 and to be honest , feeling a bit overwhelmed, in that I don’t feel like I remember 1/2 the stuff I’ve already completed. The course structure of watching a 5 min video, take a quiz with a few questions and then have to go do it is hard for me. I’m the type that if I sat with you or another professional for a month and practicing, I’d be 10xs better than I am since starting this course on cousera. There’s not much repetition on there and that’s how I learn best- hands on and repetition . Was never a computer person, but I’m very analytical. Started on wall sr couple years after HS- No college degree- I know I can do this and I know once I know what I’m doing, I’ll crush it. Any feedback , advice, recommendations are greatly appreciated. Are there any sort of programs or courses for excel/sheets, SQL, tableau, R , python that are interactive where they give immediate feedback and also where I can get lots of reps? Again, thanks
Thank you Luke, I’m trying to get into Data Analyst role and your videos help me going. Slow and steady. Keep it up!
Keep up the studies, Pavlo!
Heres the thing Excel, Tableau and PowerBI are all paid and mostly for Windows. I have linux and am poor so i cant afford any of that. But i do know Python and SQL though. So do i still have to learn those skills and if so how if i cant get access to them? Or can i just do everything those tools can do in only Python/SQL?
Welcome back @luke! We missed your videos! Please don't leave us hangin'! 😄
Thanks Joseph!
Ppt is the unsung hero of data nerds! It’s a pretty hefty tool!
I bet Alex uses Google Slides... 😒
Omg - do you even data nerd?!?!? Slides all day every day
What tools did you not expect to use as a data analyst?
@luke given the developments recently. Does micorsoft fabric provides all the tools discussed in this video?
Yeah, been trying to subscribe to coursera plus, but their paypal payment method is broken or something, so I can't apply.
Really?!?! Thats not right, I'd reach out to Coursera via this link:
www.coursera.support/s/learner-help-center-contact-us
Ah, ha! I see a nice plug of the Fourier Series from the interval -L ≤ x ≤ L in that PowerPoint, which is probably one of the most valuable/applicable equations in Physics and Math.
Hey @Luke Barousse, great video! However, I have one question for you: If you need to use Python to clean your data, how do you do to connect it with Tableau if you want your data to be "live"?
Checkout TabPy, it's a library for python to integrate into Tableau
@@LukeBarousse Thanks for the answer! This is actually a part left out for most of data RUclipsrs out there. Have you thought about making a video about this? For example "How do I connect Python, SQL and tableau together" or something similar? You could talk briefly about that package. Keep up the great work!
Can I get a full screenshot of your data pipeline? Love the theme and layout!
Agree!
Aw thank you so much! A lot of printer ink went into making that, ha! Let me see what I can do about sharing a screenshot
drive.google.com/file/d/12jYzNk3TBe8i6ow2uHJjdwW5RT7wpoIu/view?usp=sharing
Much appreciate you sharing the data pipeline screenshot - very helpful! former US Marine and thanks for your Naval service too!
My life is complete! There has been a Luke sighting!
A little bit of a hiatus, but it's good to be back, Al!
@@LukeBarousse knowing you, you were working on something big. That, or you crashed your hang glider and were in a coma.
@@Major_Data Let's go with the latter! 🤣🤣
Thanks for the insighful video Luke! I wonder if you could share some experience on how you organise your skills and anticipate on the ones needed for your projects. Take care!
I like this idea Bouseux, let me see what I can do on this topic!
thanks Luke!
Great content, thank you and keep the good work
I liked the stranger things vibe of the video😅
I can confirm that the fundamentals are the basis for landing in data analyst job, as I did. I'm now learning tools and concepts that can help me in the transition to being an analytics engineer and after maybe a data engineer. With that in mind, I wonder if you could do a video of the tools/experience/concepts to transition in data jobs, I think this deserves a shot luke.
Great content Luke🤘
Let me see what I can do on that topic, thanks for suggesting this, João!
Hey Luke,
i used currently after have see your video the trial month for cousera plus. But, it seem that the plus various haven' t enough course about Data Engineering or Software Engineering. In my opinion the basic variant have regading thus more. Why is that so or I'm blind :-) ?
Yeah the Plus may not include those courses unfortunately; They have a large portion on Plus but it looks like you found some that weren't'
@@LukeBarousse Thanks for your response. What are you recommend. The Basic-Package or the Plus-Package? My region is Germany and i woultn't pay for both
@@tugrularslan542 Really depends on how many courses you are taking and if they are in plus are not, to determine which is more cost effective. Sounds like a great problem to solve for a data analyst! 🤓
@@LukeBarousse Hey, i know. I work self as Data Eninner. The reason why is ask you is, I have still a subscription on udemy. And now i compare., what is bether for me and what is more effective ;-) I agree with you, we need for this a Data Enginner & Analyst
Hi Luke! Nice video! I am curious of your standard method(s) for data collection from SAP? SAP is my company's ERP system, however our business is challenged with analyzing that data outside of SAP or in any analytical tool.
Unfortunately, the only method I am aware of is from the presentation layer, which isn't really ideal. There are transactions like SQVI, SQ01/02/03 that allow for query design in the presentation layer, but are quite limited. It feels odd that I have never actually written a SQL query via an editor to query our ERP data. These are just .txt or .xls extracts to a local machine, and that's about it. I want to know how to truly explore our ERP system with SQL.
SAP is so expansive, so starting for scratch using it as a source for data collection just feels like situation of "You only know what you know", and there really isn't anyone who knows otherwise to learn from.
When I had to use SAP, I was primarily using downloable excel files of the data I needed; so I don't know if i'm much help for a better option for yourself for this. So sorry
@@LukeBarousse Thank you for your response, Luke. I suppose that validates my current methods haha!
I might be able to help you. I am a CPA who has used sap for three years. Try and export the data one month at a time as a flat file. It is called zrtr where I work. Import that file into a SQLite database and just build it out from there. I use my little SQLite database every day and love it. Hope that helps.
I love the core skills u mentioned spreadsheet py xl sql and powerbi
With these skills you can performed end to end process from etl to viz and even data warehousing. This is how we're one of the high paid salary.
A personal question: Have your ever played Silent Hunter IV Wolves of Pasific Pack?
Nah I'm sorry I haven't
@@LukeBarousse Alright =)
Came across this channel today. Thinking of becoming a fellow data nerd as well.
Heck yeah! Love have a fellow data nerd join!
Luke like always, such an amazing and informative video, thank you my dude 😎 for sharing all your knowledge with your data 🤓 community 🤘
hi luke, I'm new to your channel and still in school but I was wondering where I should start after completing school. (watched your "how I would be a data analyst" vid)
I'd still recommend the same approach; just make sure you start looking for jobs now to not only start applying, but also getting familiar with the job requirements for what you need to know.
Im using Datacamp to learn and improve data analysis myself, and I just started as researcher at a highly-ranked university. Quantitavely its essential to learn and apply simular skills as data analysts! Funny thing though, is that I actually found your youtube channel though Datacamp...
Yeah I made a couple Power Bi courses for them!
Love the Mario Landscape - is it some stock item with all the tools or did you create it :) ? Asking for a friend I think this is sth. you could use to pitch sth. to management
Unfortunately I had to just print this from images I googled... come to think of it I know need to order a new color ink cartridge 😜
So I just jumped off the Data Science education to Data Analytics.
You better make this worth it!! 😂🤨😂
😜 You won't be disappointed 🙌🏼
Can you make a video on how you use Python as data analyst? As a junior data analyst, I rarely use Python for the job (mostly use Excel, SQL, Tableau/Power BI).
Heck yeah I can, plan on making it later this year!
@@LukeBarousse Thanks a lot Luke, looking forward to it!
Hey Luke, whats your thoughts on Masterschool data analytics? price-wise, content, value etc
I looked into it a while back and looks promising
Hey Luke, regarding the iron analyst competition , why didn't any one just use SQL and tableau. Wouldn't that be much easier and time saving??
One of the contestants @Data with Zach, used Tableau. Very good option to use! Regarding SQL, the data was provided in CSVs, and we just needed to perform a one-time anlaysis; so SQL wasn't necessary. ALTHOUGH the data was pretty large and if I had to do it over again (and had more time); I would have stuck it into a sql database
Hey Luke. Love your presentations and depictions! Could you please do a video on Zoho analytics?
Let me see what I can do on this!
Hi! I’ve been thinking about getting a certificate in Data Analysis and I wanted to know what it consists of specifically. I have a basic idea (sorta) of it but I’m still confused what it consists of and I could really use some advice! Thanks
I have a few videos on this!
Hi, I am a recent MBA graduate wants to pursue a career in Analytics, but landed up in SAP. Although I still want Analytics, so started linking up SAP with Analytics like SAP Analytics cloud and Power BI. TBH I am damn confused now, do you think having knowledge of SAP, I will reach my destination. Please help me and guide me
Well as a fresher i do have a cert in cloud. Azure 900
Hi, you are doing a job of heavy lifting. Anyway, does cousera offer award google data analytics certificate and how long? Do they offer certification courses in data pipelines ? Thank you.
what do you mean with your first question? If you are referring to financial aid, coursera offers this for this course; For data pipelines; i'll have to look into this more; but the Meta database engineering certificate is looking promising for this.
I took the Google Data Analytics Professional course for a bit. This specific course was split into 8 different modules focusing on each part of the Data Analysis Process. I had only completed 1 of 8 but it does reward you with a certificate after each module. For instance I was awarded with the "Foundations: Data, Data, Everywhere" module certificate, so it's safe to assume it is like that for every other course.
Great Video as always, Luke. I just started learning data analyst in excel. Do you know any way to test how far my skills been improving? Like, do you know where I can find an example data to test myself?
Have you checked out Kaggle? Plenty of data there to check out
Hello Luke, you're doing a great job keep it up. Can you recommend a course on Apache Spark?
Let me see what I can do on this my dude!
Feels hopeless tbh. I got sql pretty much under my belt and know a little tableau but see job postings with 150+ applicants within 4 hours is discouraging.
@5:04 nice music choice 🤙🏼
Love that song!
Hello. Hope you are doing well.
I have got a question.
I am a professional Document Controller with almost 12 years of experience. My excel knowledge is very good. And my study is a Bachelor degree in the construction engineering field.
I am willing to change my profile to data analyst as it seems very attractive and I think that can handle it.
What would you advise?
I have a few beginner videos on my channels, I'd recommend starting here:

Hi Luke, have been watching your informative videos thanks a lot. I am in the Radiology Medical domain in a 3rd world country.
Qualified Radiographer and Mammographer not Radiologist. Would like to prepare for the next phase, who knows what that is?
Considering the Coursera Data Analysis Course.
Any ideas and guidance from your side will be much appreciated. Thx a mil.
I'm not fully sure on this industry; but I'd recommend asking around to colleagues and those on Linkedin that work in that industry on how they've used Analytics. There usually is a use case
An unexpected Dumb and Dumber reference? LOVE IT!😄
Another funny and informative video! I loved the Dumb and Dumber reference.
You sir, are a National Treasure!
Aw Thank you shipmate!! 😍🙌🏼😘
Quality content as usual.
Hi Luke, I'm inspired by your lovely contents on RUclips and it has further strength my desire to learn data analytics but i need a MacBook to start learning and sadly it would take me years to buy one. Can you help out?
I'd actually recommend starting with a Windows machine, much cheaper options!
@@LukeBarousse thanks mate, I'll do just that 👍🏼
Good job.
You had me at "I am a fan of SQL or Python"
Gotta appease the Data Engineers!!! 😜
Great content :3
Upvoted. Gotta love Dumb n Dumber inspired jokes!
😜 Heck yeah! You got the reference!
Why the Alex (the analyst) photo frame there? I know he is good, but did he elevated to God mode? 😂
Hope Alex clarifies. :)
Waiting also for Alex to clarify!
@@LukeBarousse I'm just happy to be here guys :D
Seems like these days Power Bi is more needed then Tableau or at least an equal.
Yeah I'm with ya, I also think it really depends on the company and industry. I'm a big fan of Power BI and used it at my last company whereas others i've talked to used exclusively Tableau and feel it's more needed.
Awesome video as always. Would have been cooler if you said you use Coursera to access OVER 9000 courses, but you'll know better next time ;-)
Ha! Will include meme as well. 🤣
@@LukeBarousse perfect! On another note, it was nice hearing about Alteryx. Have used it and found it quite easy to automate data transformation activities
Hey Luke! Love the videos. Didn’t realize that I wasn’t already subscribed to your channel, so…done!
On another note, I’m really interested in how you’re pulling data out of SAP and automating that process. I’m trying to do a similar process and just want to compare notes. As far as I’ve experienced, there’s no good way to automate it. Thanks, dude!
Yeah I never found a great way to do it... someone at my company developed a python script that automated data extraction and could be modified to fit our needs... but unfortunately I can't share that script.
@@LukeBarousse Got it, thanks! Yeah, I totally understand not being able share it. Just knowing that someone was able to get a workaround with some python was helpful. Thanks, again, Luke!
