Oh shit yeah 😂😂. I missed that first time through. Just relistened to that mail segment and he does name him, only his first name though so its probably fine.
English teacher in Japan here. Heard of Kansho, never had it happen to me. The kids are great. Also find it helps them get comfortable with me when they find out I know all the anime they watch
Amusingly enough, if you have Mormons in the area and you allow them to 'preach' to you while they are on a 'mission', they will often offer to help you with whatever chores you are currently doing. I had an uncle who would always schedule weeding his garden or painting a fence when he knew they would be in the area.
I lived in Madison WI for four years and it really is a lovely place. Milwaukee on the other hand is... skippable IMO. Best cheese in the US and some great beer as well. Plus you can save big money at Menards!
Lewis, the point of sending people door knocking isn’t actually to win converts. It’s a form of manipulation, because they know it’s annoying and people will be mean. What it does is it helps reinforce the fact world is mean and the cult is a safe place and the only place they will find like minded people. A convert is just a bonus.
As someone who lives in Calgary I can confirm that Alberta is basically the Texas of Canada, at least the flat parts of Alberta. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like here, but it's also got a lot of downsides (bitterly cold winters, questionable politics, poor taste in music, etc.)
I can understand people disliking the different format of the bonus episodes, but I thought they were really funny. Lewis' desperate attempts to get you guys to engage in some really nonsense bullshit was great, I love it when people try to make up bullshit about stuff they're really not interested in and try to make it a serious conversation! I had some really good belly laughs at some of the responses and reasonings
Lmao the short Buble poem was hilarious. P.S. I remember PC World being dodgy back in the day. Buying our first ever computer windows 95 the Curry's worker helped us carry our PC to the cashier...on top of that he said you can get this mouse matt for free with it, some other things and they changed full price...annoyance
It's quite telling that the Australian is describing winter as "drizzling", which means it's not even below freezing. My man doesn't even know what cold is.
Calgary AB has 300+ days of sun every year which is awesome. You can almost always see the mountains. Chinook winds bring mild winters. Population density is one of the lowest in NA which has pros and cons. Very outdoorsy city, little night life but a strong music scene. Politics in Canada are hugely east vs west because of how the population is distributed and the Texas reputation partly comes from the smaller population in AB paying through the nose for social programs in QC and ONT while getting little in return.
As for Wisconsin, here's what you need to know. Madison is great, Milwaukee sucks, Door County is great in the summers, there are loads of pretty scenery areas, and the many other towns are mostly forgettable.
„Don’t let people tell you what to do, don’t even let me tell you what to do!!!“ is a paradox Lewis. if i don’t let you tell me what to do then i automatically have to let others tell me what to do because you told me to not let others tell me what to do!😂😂🤯
I've known a few guys, and one pretty well, who are JWs, Lewis kind of hits the nail on the head, the kids have no choice as they're basically just trying not to get excommunicated. The guy I know well blanked his child for a long time, for opting out, only spoke once they opted back-in. The guy I know has never converted anyone, they kind of revel in the rejection as their-lot, he joined after his wife joined just to be with her (both running from bad shit in their past), he became radicalized later on, and their child was homeschooled. It is a cult, they all have to pay an amount of their wages into the pot, and more+more they're establishing religious schools. They are deeply into excommunication, and self(cult)-policing/governance. Guy doesn't want the truth, wants an elevated social-status and none of the hassle associated with life(/thinking) outside of the church, likely doesn't even trust himself due to his rocky past to live a godless life. Seen it in his eye's a few times when I've argued with him, he only half-believes what he's saying.
If you crash into the back of someone, you are at fault, because you should have enough space between the car ahead as your stopping distance plus reaction time, not "the difference in stopping plus reaction time", so none of this "it weren't my fault!". Of course, in many places you aren't ALLOWED that gap, because if that big a gap is left, often someone will decide to go in it, but then you just go slower and open up that gap again. That also sets you in good stead for the people who cut in front and then brake hard to make you hit them, because you were already slowing, nixxing their plan, and is cheaper than a dashcam.
Danger is much more SAID, before you only heard about "the leonard" in town, now you will hear about "leonards" from across the world. It is factually safer, look at stats for violent crime. That said, I remember as a kid playing "Hide when a car passes by" at Halloween. If that were done by kids today (or indeed kids 20 years ago), they'd be unable to move because there are SOOOOO many cars on the streets. So there is a change, we have far more cars than we used to have, and those cars are heavier and safer FOR THE DRIVER but not the pedestrian. Another change is how far you have to go to get "out of town", it is a lot more when I was a kid than when my parents were kids, and even further for kids today. And the last change I know happens is there are loads of "adults" who complain about kids playing football in the road, but aren't allowed to be as far as across the road to the large green playground area by their parents.
32:30 This is currys, for someone who doesnt want to be known where he works he was too specific with the wording and processes. This guy sounds like a shit employee who hasnt been doing well. A lot of misconceptions from store level (especially around the 20 minute thing, delivery drivers do have a schedule but wall installs and everything are booked in for 1-2 hours, and more often than not the sales guys will sell the wrong brackets, with the installers bringing spares just in case of this event). Also the thing about branded colleagues is true BUT there is no bonus for the further units, your job is an in store specialist for that brand, so someone introducing themself as an in store expert for samsung or philips is very much correct. You do recieve a pay rise but this is because youre knowledge is meant to be deeper in the area you're branded for, with specialist training also being provided by the brand that youre branded for. You will have a unit target to sell but are not exclusive to selling for that brand. From the sound of it Jay has no idea what he's talking about because samsung are some of the better tvs you can get (although per usual with everything it is down to preference as every eye sees something different. As someone who has been a branded rep for gaming it sounds like the guy writing in is either jealous of his colleague having this role and is bitter about his job. I'm not going to lie currys isnt the best most of the time but what this guy is saying just sounds like from someone who thinks their better than what theyre doing, quite a bit of wrong information coming from someone who has worked there for 5 years!
A quick google search on change of child abuse in the UK shows a massive increase over the past 20 years BUT Im fairly certain at least some of that is down to more reporting. Since the late 90s, our western societies are far more aware of abuse children may suffer and it's no longer seen as a thing that just happens - it gets reported, hence a rise in the statistics. But has the frequency of criminal activity risen? Harder to say from the data. Also from the stats, it's reported that a majority of abuse cases come from people within the child's circle of relations, i.e. family or friends. Two conclusions: - for more real info, it'd be ideal to watch / read / talk to a researcher in that field. People working in child services or police may have some insight but Id guess it'd be biased by their daily activities and not offer a wider perspective into changes over 20-40 years or more - unless that's their speciality. Hence, a researcher would work best. - my personal two cents would be that I doubt child abuse itself has risen, on the contrary. Why would it have? I see no reason to believe people have somehow fundamentally changed in their behaviours so the same forces are acting upon people to be child abusers while their bad acts are reported more frequently. If you look back centuries, you'd find a society that tolerates parents selling their children and anything family members in authority did to the least high ranking members of said family (i.e. children) would often be viewed as acceptable. And finally, considering most abuse comes from within families, frequency of abuse wouldnt have changed especially given most caring parents (as Pyrion and Sips both point out) are mostly concerned for what happens on the outside.
Concidering the amount of you paycheck that you have to pay to JW every month, Im finding it hard to believe they just do jt for the love of the game. There are some on the top living real good.
Next mailbag episodes: hello, I’m a convicted pedo (nonce) I’m currently in prison for 6 months for stealing and falsely imprisoning 8 kids. I have to say that these techniques for taking kids are outdated and incorrect. We actually go…
I seriously wonder what kind of trauma Lewis has, because his default point of view of people getting scammed for life when they let themselves in with any kind of religion really rubs me the wrong way. He describes it as if anyone involved is either taken advantage of, or in on the scamming? Investing time in a community and giving to charity/others, what a hoax!
Hard disagree but I suppose we could have had very different experiences in the same place, especially if we lived there over different times (2016 to 2020 for me).
Re moving to Calgary/Canada. Canadians already don't like Americans, but it's extremely entitled to think you get to move here because of "politics". It's a different country, not some kind of bonus state or plan B. So I would recommend asking yourself if you really want to become Canadian, or if you're simply running from your problems at home. Because unfortunately we have all the same problems politically and a few things are actually worse in my opinion. You would know this if you seriously looked into what Canada is like. If I may read between the lines a bit and say you seem to want to move here with the expectation you will never have to suffer hearing a right-of-center opinion ever again - you would be disappointed anywhere in Canada including BC. And personally, if you are coming here with this American divisive tribal political lens, I don't want you here anyway. We get enough spillover from that dumpster fire already.
I found pflax's utter disdain for ranking Minecraft blocks to be the most entertaining part. Top quality episodes
The Kraken bit had me dying my god
The buble macbeth joke got me dying i almost crashed
“Please don’t name me” says the secret job bloke, Pyrion inevitably says his name.

Classic Pflax
I like the mailbags and the bonus episodes. The bonus episodes are definitely more of driving podcasts than the others
Pyrion: Raw blocks only!
Also Pyrion: mmmmm, TNT.....

This was pretty much Sips' apology video.
Personally I loved the list episodes, I don't understand what some people have against them, they were brilliant as usual!
I really do love these mailbag episodes guys 🤙🤙
But listening to the end, please don't stop the normal episodes. I love the stream of consciousness that is you 3 without the emails too
This uploaded literally at perfect timing for my drive to college classes clutch as fuck lol

Seeing this comment before the podcast was exciting. I couldn't imagine what Kancho would be and it was better than anything in my wildest dreams
