Hello Shawn, I’ve been watching all your videos of all the fun lil puppies!! They are all soo cute! I have a couple questions regarding feeding our Fynnegan human grade food. We started him on The farmers dog a couple months ago. However, we are wanting to make him food on our own. I know your dogs are free feeders. We do 2 feedings a day for Fynny and I’m curious what would you estimate is the amount of food your dogs roughly get? 1/3c, 1/2c per serving? I know it varies depending on weight and activity level. Fynnegan is 9mo now and weighs about 14lbs. Not sure he’ll get much bigger. Each serving from Farmers dog is 314 calories and probably about 1/3c. Do you know approximately what caloric intake your dogs get? Also, do you add extra oil to your recipe or just the salmon oil in the Kirkland canned salmon? If so, what is the brand and where is the best place to buy it? I so appreciate your insight on all the stew recipes you offer on YT. I know doing it on my own is so much more affordable and healthier then buying any subscription option. Thank you for all time you spend on those videos. They are truly, very helpful.🙂
Thank you Tammy! My suggestion is if you begin to make your own stew, make a big pot that will last several days or a whole week. Then put a bit more than the size of the Farmer's Dog in a bowl and leave it on the floor - available for him - for 20 - 30 mins. Then pick up whatever is left, cover it, and use it as the base for the next time you feed him. The amount of food a dog gets is going to vary (like humans) the age, size, exercise level, and growth pattern of the dog will determine how much is right for your dog. If you can see or easily feel his ribs and back bone he needs more food. If you can't see or feel his ribs at all then he may be eating too much. Kirkland sells avocado oil and salmon oil that could work if you want to add in extra - I use the Dr Harvey's powders to add to my stew to ensure my dogs are getting all the right nutrients and they do suggest adding a very small amount of olive or salmon oil to the food. When I want to add more nutrition to a dog's meal I will sometimes add Foster Care puppy formula from Revival - you will see it here in my Favorite Things: www.svcctoys.com/schnauzer-favorite-products If a dog is not eating well I will mix us some of the Foster Care formula and feed with a syringe to get the right nutrients in quickly.
