I think I understand why Gabriel said "get out". I bet at the end it was William/purple man that got the investigator at the end. I bet Gabriel saw him and wanted the man to leave before William killed him. He wasn't listening so he decided to scare him away, but sadly he waited too long and got killed/taken/knocked out by William.
