As a person who has had several foals through the years, babies are a LOT OF WORK. Back when I had mine, I couldn't afford any sort of foal watching equipment. So for weeks one mare of mine showed no signs of foaling, Getting up every couple of hours every night and checking her several times a day took a toll on me. One day she had started waxing up so I was sure she would have it soon. But my body demanded sleep so I went back to the house to take a short nap. Got up, checked her again. She had a filly who was standing and dry when I went out. Miranda had to have waited until she was sure I was in the house and then dropped the foal quickly! Later I found out that mares can delay their foaling somewhat if they feel they're not safe. I had had Miranda for several years at that point in time, but I was never able to catch her in the act of foaling. Once they're born they need to be handled for short periods of time on a daily basis. If you watched Shae's videos of her handling both Ezzie and Ariel, you can see how much work it takes, work that could be used for training all the other project horses she has. Shae has also mentioned that she is not in the business of raising and training foals as it takes 4 years for her to feel comfortable starting their under saddle work. That's 4 years of feeding and working with them that could be used for another horse or 2 and another year or more before she could put them in the lesson program. Shae does a remarkable job working with horses in her chosen field. And that field doesn't include foals.
It might have been an accident. I had an idiot worker who put studs and mares out together even after being told Never put males with females ! Not even the geldings. He did it anyway. Of course I fired him but that did not solve the resulting problem. Un-registerable offspring.! They were pretty but no papers. I was stuck with those foals for three years until I got them trained and sold to decent homes.
She's pregnant! 😭 That was so hard! Of course, you made the hard decision you needed too, but all I could think of was how gorgeous she is and how cute her baby will be! 😭
I have an idea for a concern you voiced in this video: Riding without a helmet. I heard your internal & saw the external struggle: Riding that gorgeous 16+ hands high horse, "sans safety protocol," in front of your many fans, young & old. What a dilemma it was. I felt it.The little girl in you, who is "over the moon and back" with the love of horses, threw caution to the wind AND took off. It was JOY in motion. Such fun for this old lady to behold. Now, my idea. Put a helmet in every vehicle you have. NOT IN THE TACK ROOM, with the intention of taking to the next auction/s. Miss Shea, take good care of you. Many people and your animals (not just horses) love & need you. 🙂
Shae needs to start bringing a spare helmet in her car to auctions just in case someone offers her a ride Edit: didn't realise you said that already, but I agree wholeheartedly. You never know when the situation will arise that you need a helmet
Agree! That's a good idea! You never know when that one horse is the one that will throw you, for whatever reason. As awesome as they are they are still unpredictable. Gotta love 'em😊❤❤❤❤
Really appreciate how things have changed. Growing up I never rode bikes or skied or rode horses with a helmet. Today even the little rad snowboarders have wild helmets like dragons or star war characters.
Wow, just wow Shae….You impress me so much! You looked like a boss on that pregnant mare, a total princess (even without your helmet)! Ugh, cannot believe you got that news AFTER you (we all) fell in love. Better now than later.
A big thank you for taking us along, Shae! I personally loved seeing two of your cute and inquisitive gal students along on the “ride” and also when you questioned their knowledge of colors etc. It makes me feel like I’m almost having a lesson with you! Aww mannn Lumiere’s sister from another mister 😍 she was such a sweetheart and sooo pretty, I definitely got a chuckle when you hopped down and we could see just how big she was 😁
That Mr.Lumiere mare is absolutely stunning!!! She seems like such a nice horse. You said she had a reputable owner. After what we see with the Amish horses at the auctions, a responsible owner would be important to me.
I love your auction videos because I get to see so many cute and pretty ponies, donkeys, and horses. I’m always disappointed when you don’t buy a horse , though. I love the excitement when you bring a new horse home. I like that you show the price that the horses sell for. It’s just interesting to know that. Thanks for another great video. ❤

Shae, On Sunday I went to a family event and at the house next door they had a mom dad and baby cow and they also had a male horse and a paddock. Well I got to feed him some watermelon and he was just so much larger than I could ever imagine!!! He was a buckskin and he was beautiful and so gentle and so soft!!! And I was so excited for his little lips to be picking up that watermelon off my hand. It was beautiful and really a dream come true!!!

Everyone would have loved another foal journey BUT you did what YOU could handle. You know you. Plus someone else got an amazing two in one package. Many Amish do keep their mares routinely in foal. Her half Gypsy foal will likely be a mini Lumiere.
Eesh the mare was tall! Long way down in cold weather. The donkey mare and foal were my favourites. So cuddly. Good to see you kept yourself busy topping up the waters.
I wanted the donkey and foal with my whole heart. Like seriously I wanted them but I didn’t bring the trailer and was going to hire a shipper if I purchased a horse. But with a baby that made me so nervous, plus we also don’t have the space for other animals until we get a bigger property. It was really hard.
Really ….really….. really….. loved that Mare! She was stunning and would have been a great horse for your hubby and some of the taller ladies you have in your classes….. but I totally understand that you can not take on another foal ….just think how beautiful that foal will be cause she was bred to a Gypsy…. Better luck next time! Thanks for taking us along!
Idk, Shae. For just $9k on that stunning young mare, I would have taken the bid and brought her home. Even if she was in foal, the baby would be gorgeous and could sell at weaning. But you know your herd which is growing. And your capacity is limited, so a hard decision but right for you. And you did look like a princess on her! The right one will happen. Thanks for taking us on your journey.
Great auction! I really Loved the Appaloosa Guss. That Buckskin mare, gorgeous and so big. You looked like a little kid on her. So many Beautiful horses and ponies, and donkeys. There's always more auctions, the right horse will come along. Thank you so much for video. I've been home all day. It's like I got out of the house . Can't wait for the next one.
Good thing Shea has a process she really sticks to at these auctions, since she has almost never met a horse she hasn’t fallen in severe like if not love with. If she didn’t stick to the process I can just imagine the look on her husband’s face as a full truckload of new horses and ponies showed up at the farm after an auction!
I will always love Standardbreds since we raised three foals. These horses were a bit young and it would be better to get a horse with a few more road miles on them. You have enough youth at home! That Buckskin was really nice but she was a LOT of horse. Must have been a reason she might be pregnant and it took her out of the running. I'm sure your students learned a lot and had fun. There were some beautiful horses, ponies and donkeys there!
Thanks, Shae, for taking us viewers along with you to the auctions. They add good variety to your channel. They’re informative, fun, and there’s a bit of anticipation about whether you’re going to be getting another member of the herd for FSE. 👍🏼
As someone who has pondered going to an auction a new addition, thank you for sharing this. We are moving to a property where our horses can finally be at home after nearly 20 years of boarding and once settled will be considering one more addition as a companion for when we’re riding some of them. I have always found our horses through private sellers and direct connections so this was an overwhelming prospect but something I was interested in. This video was helpful to understand how the ethical sales can run.
Thia auction has beautiful horses. They are much better cared for than several of the last auctions you have been to earlier this year. So much more relaxing.
It’s always interesting when Shae takes us viewers to the auctions. The title creates suspense about whether a horse was bought or not. The auction videos add variety to the FSE channel content, too. 👍🏼
I just love your horse auction adventures, and you had some really beautiful horses to look at. I love that there's no kill buyers allowed. Thank you for taking us along❤
Of course, the horse needs to be good in everything from confirmation, teeth, hooves, etc but ALSO.... A beautiful and unique color. Hold out for one that is perfect!!!❤
You have this glow about you when you find a horse that you just fall for. None of the horses, even the ones you liked didn't bring out that glow in you. You'll find your next horse soon!
Hey Shae, love watching your videos.. me and my 10 year old son love to ride.. unfortunately, I have arthritis in both knees and would struggle to mount and dismount a horse at the moment. I have learnt soo much about horses since watching your videos.. I love you at horse auctions, you are so thorough it's great. I've been riding since I was 5 years old and l am now 49!. Not rode for a while due to arthritis in my knees. I am from Manchester in England, would love to come out and go to a horse auction with you. You amaze me with your bitless riding skills and how you teach your horses from having a bit to bitless. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see if buy at the next auction.. keep us posted. xx Jo xx
What an amazing selection of horses, ponies, mules and donkeys. The horse at 6:55 is absolutely beautiful, and his fur is so glossy. The buckskin mare is gorgeous.
Love the fact that it’s no kill auction..some auctions around the USA are so sad that people bring their sick and crippled horses just to get the last few 100 dollars out of them. 😢 instead of taking the last act of kindness. Thank you for sharing with us your experience and knowledge about auctions and horses 🐎
The red Dun and bay at the beginning caught my eye-that red Dun was Gorgeous!!! The bay in the exercise ring caught my eye-looked like a Morab, from what I could see??? Fun day...Thanks for taking us along. 😇
Hi Shae. I really enjoyed the video. Also I saw the short with lumi and mishu jumping. Love that your horses will do anything for you. I wish I still had my horse. I'm learning so much.
Question from the UK where I don’t think mules are as commonplace as the USA - would you ever consider having one? They look really interesting characters, I am fairly ancient and I remember my English teacher talking about using mules to transport goods in World War II ! He was really fond of them x❤️❤️
It's funny that you commented this because I was going to ask the same thing. Mules are great and very different but you can still build an amazing bond with them. It would be cool to see her have one.
Mules are common out here in Montana. They use them for the back country especially for packing in the mountains. Mules are also used by the US forest service to get goods out to back country areas. The way they are hybrid from Horses makes them good going up hills and down......their hind legs get under them more from their conformation. We use them for Hunt trips into the mountains. Training mules is a little different from Horses. They can be very stubborn and its important with them to have them avoid major mistakes when training them for they will remember it and be reluctant to get involved in it again. They are know for it. Best find a experienced trainer first
As an aside, the USMC still trains mules as pack animals when traversing remote jungles and mountainous terrain. A Marine mule named Alice recently won the dubious title; The Meanest Mule In The Marine Corp.........I certainly would not want to tangle with her!
Easy to see why you felt so drawn to her, Shae! What a beautiful mare & such a gorgeous mover…& pregnant by a Gypsy Vanner!! Gosh, that must have been so hard to walk away from; but seeing what you have gone through & are still going through with poor Belle, maybe you were spared more sorrow & unexpected complication😔 The right horse will happen & we will be so pleased & estatic right alongside you! Thanks for sharing the journey 💝⭐️
I am so sorry you did not get the beautiful mare. If she is pregnant the baby will not be here until next spring. Your babies will be 2 by then. I understand the cost of caring for mare goes up with being pregnant. Just so beautiful and you looked so happy with her. Know you will find another great horse. Enjoy your videos so much.💐🐎
You mentioned riding without a helmet and being safe…One of the best things-that I learned from a self-defense/ martial arts class-is learning how to fall….it’s come in handy a few times! I would recommend learning this to any equestrian in addition to a helmet. It protects your head and neck!
Oh my word, when you found out that the beautiful mare was pregnant, my heart was so sad for you! Shae you looked so grand on her. But I know when the right horse comes along, you will get it. God bless.....I love going along with you at these auctions and I learn so much from you.
MAN THAT UPSET ME SO MUCH LOL I wasn't even there and I fell in love with her! My heart sunk when you said she was pregnant!!!! She was absolutely stunning!!!! 😭 Remember your reaction when you found out Belle was pregnant? You probably never would've bought her if you knew but just look at Ezzy. Everyone would have loved another foal journey BUT you did what YOU could handle. You know you. Plus someone else got an amazing two in one package. Many Amish do keep their mares routinely in foal. Her half Gypsy foal will likely be a mini Lumiere.
She's a beautiful buckskin❤
Eesh the mare was tall! Long way down in cold weather. The donkey mare and foal were my favourites. So cuddly. Good to see you kept yourself busy topping up the waters.
That miniature donkey mare (28:00) was so affectionate. And the foal was adorable, too.
True haha
She's beautiful and so is Shae
Every time I watch your videos I am love how you know and love the horses 🥰🥰🥰
Oh Shae that mare was GORGEOUS!!!!! She would have been fit the name “Rapunzel” VERY WELL! Your next 4-legged baby will come soon!
That big beautiful pregnant mare looked so gorgeous. She wore you well.
She was stunning!
It would be a hoarder situation lol
🤣
That buckskin mare would have really sent Lumi over the top haha!! She’s gorgeous!
To me nothing moves with the elegance of a Standardbred
Love going to your auctions with you. So fun to hear why you like and dislike horses.
I had goosebumps watching you two together!
Thanks, Shae, for taking us viewers along with you to the auctions. They add good variety to your channel. They’re informative, fun, and there’s a bit of anticipation about whether you’re going to be getting another member of the herd for FSE. 👍🏼
That’s unfortunate that she’s in foal. No you don’t need another baby. Thank you for taking us along. It’s my birthday month too. Happy Birthday Shae.
I love coming along to the horse auctions! So much to see.
Much to learn.
And getting to love on these beauty's ❤ 🐎 🐴
Thank you Shae and ladies!
I'm with ya'll in spirit
You looked great riding that beautiful mare.Too bad you had to pass
Thank you! It was tough
LOVE THE HORSE AUCTIONS YOU GIVE ALOT OF ADVICE LOVE YOU🥰🥰🥰🥰
As someone who has pondered going to an auction a new addition, thank you for sharing this.
233 was absolutely gorgeous especially in black omg 😍
I love your auction videos they are so educational ❤😊
I love seeing this when you're working with students. Thanks for including them in your video.
Oh my, that pregnant buckskin mare was incredible - smooth sitting trot. I love big horses.
You looked fantastic on her.
Can't wait to see if buy at the next auction.. keep us posted. xx Jo xx
Thank you for taking us along. I’m sorry you didn’t find what you were looking for. You’ll find each other. I know it
Loved going to the auction. You will know when it's right ❤
What an amazing selection of horses, ponies, mules and donkeys. The horse at 6:55 is absolutely beautiful, and his fur is so glossy. The buckskin mare is gorgeous.
So beautiful!!!! And 9K..such a good price!!!! Bummer….but you’re the best horse mama and so responsible. More auctions!
Aww, it's okay! The mare was beautiful! There is always next time you teach me so much every time you go to an auction! Thank you! ❤🙏
😇
Friesian/Standardbred
Lots of nice looking horses. I am glad you take ur time getting the right one for ur needs.
Love, love, ❤️ 😍 💖 your auction videos.😊
Hi Shae. I really enjoyed the video. Also I saw the short with lumi and mishu jumping. Love that your horses will do anything for you. I wish I still had my horse. I'm learning so much.
Oĥ, I loved that gorgeous black Phersion, cross. And the mare her colors were beautiful. ❤❤🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
@@savadove they look like they are amazing equines x❤️
@@dojocho1894 fascinating thank you for responding in detail, guess you need to know what you’re doing!x
The Appaloosa mule would be an interesting addition to the program 😂
Easy to see why you felt so drawn to her, Shae! What a beautiful mare & such a gorgeous mover…& pregnant by a Gypsy Vanner!! Gosh, that must have been so hard to walk away from; but seeing what you have gone through & are still going through with poor Belle, maybe you were spared more sorrow & unexpected complication😔
The right horse will happen & we will be so pleased & estatic right alongside you!
Thanks for sharing the journey 💝⭐️
I just love when you go to an auction because you explain so much. I’m sad about the mare but I’m also excited you’ll be going to another auction!!
I liked the buckskin mare and the Friesian cross bay. Both are beautiful and appeared to be kind. My kind of dream horse.
Love hangin out with ya at the auctions. You'll just know when the right one comes along. ❤😊
Remember your reaction when you found out Belle was pregnant? You probably never would've bought her if you knew but just look at Ezzy. You'd've never gotten her if it weren't for big, beautiful Belle! Ezzy is a blessing to Free Spirit Farm!
29:33 the auctioneer really did sneak in a "wham bam thank you ma'am"
That spotted Jenny with the foal was beautiful.
Every horse is special ❤❤❤❤❤
