It's always fun to see how other people organize their makeup and to see what they enjoy using. A lot of the blushes you have I also own and LOVE. I still haven't tried the concealer I associate you with, Rimmel 2-in-1 Match Perfection. I have a bunch opened and some holy grails I'm using (you can see what they are by watching my Best of 2013 video) but I will try it sometime! I just swatched groundwork paint pot at a CCO and should have bought it! For my fair/light skintone, it looked really nice on its own to brighten up my eye area (adding it to my wishlist..my never-ending list) Thanks for sharing! I will be making a collection/organizational video at some point too.

when my daughter happily jogged off to college i got her room in the basement. OMG! im happy and my husband is ...... ecstatic!! lmao! he gladly went out and got the mirror, vanity, the lights the storage! everything! he was just glad to get me and my stuff out of the master bathroom! lol i thought my daughter would be upset about moving her junk into storage bins but she now enjoys the beauty room when she visits! on a weekend i finish up all the shopping and housework quickly then just enter my secret hideaway which by the way has an attached bathroom! hubby gets into his recliner and watch tv and we are both happy. i think this room brought us even closer together. we were both sad about being empty nesters but i go into my little sanctuary and have loads of fun!. hubby comes in and looks around and shakes his head from time to time! lol
Love the countertop storage, I have one similar that I use for my "weekly" makeup, but I do need one drawer that is deeper, I think I'll have to hit up the container store. Thanks for sharing xo Kristinn

I had some leftover smaller-sized rocks that came with a huge candle display piece that I received as a gift and had the same problem with my makeup brushes not standing up in their storage containers so I put them in and they worked like a charm :) I'm a huge fan of yours and look forward to your videos!! 👍👍
Loved it! : ) If you want more brush holders like the acrylic ones you have the bath and body works 3 wick candle jars work awesome! Just put it in the freezer when your done with it just over night and the last bit of wax pops right out. And for your chanel product add some drops of alcohol to it and stir it in. It won't look as pretty in the jar but it will work well again : ) Xo Taralyn

Really enjoyed all your makeup tips and storage ideas :) I'm not a fan of acrylic tubs and storage containers cause they're really brittle but there are not a whole lot of other options out there. I do like those drawer units though and always use coffee mugs and other pottery I've picked up from thrift shops to store brushes and items like that. :) Have a look at Organized Like Jen, I'm very jealous, she has this amazing piece of furniture called a Hampton Vanity Tower from Pottery Barn and she has her vanity there and all her make up, its awesome (Vanity Makeup and Organization) is the name of the vid, Im soooooo jealous!!!!!

I had to get an actual piece of furniture to house my hoarding. Bought the Alex 6 drawer unit from Ikea. It is really pretty! Then I bought a ton of the acrylic bins from The Container Store to use it in for organizing. It is sick how much I've amassed...even after several rounds of giving things away. Tons of things.

It is good to know I am not alone. I am also, having to put on the brakes with the buying. Yes, I agree it is fun but now I am going to have to go on a makeup budget. It gets so addicting.

Hi Marnie - love watching your videos - you're such an upbeat and lively person and I love how you don't take yourself too seriously (makeup is supposed to be fun, right :) Anyway just before I watched this I was organising my makeup bag (it's midnight here in Australia and my only quiet time when kids in bed ;) So I had an idea which I thought I would share (cos I know hubby would NOT be interested hehe) My bag was a jumbled mess so I cut out some card and made dividers inside the bag so now I can see the tops of everything,its divided into like items and nothing budges when I close the lid. Haha yes I know I think this tired mama needs some sleep. Have a fun day! Catherine :)

Nicely organized. I need to get some good containers to organize my stuff- one of my goals for 2014. I only have one drawer full of makeup plus extra daily use items on the counter. If the drawer is too ful then I should not be buying more.
You've done a nice job organizing your makeup. It looks pretty sitting out for you to quickly access everything. I still need to buy a little chair or bench for my bathroom. Right now it's just an open empty space.

LOL @ trash bins on top off the counters because of the dawgs! I love a lot of your products, and the acryllic drawers are neat. I think you need more drawers on top in view and less in the bottom cupboard where the products are too buried. If you need a flashlight, they are in th wrong area. : ) Lipsticks and glosses seems a shame to hide them all too. I'd sort the brushes into more containers. Love your videos. Looks great and nicely organized! Maybe a purge of stuff you just don't find you love? I've got the Muji (bought online in a leap of faith) and I love them. Did a major purge (especially lipsticks and glosses) and the only things I don't have in my Muji drawers are backups. Sometimes it kind of hurts to get rid of something (especially a pricey item) but I tell myself that my makeup storage real estate is valuable. And I know you love concealer - it's really pricey (but totally worth it) but have you considered trying the La Mer concealer for the under eye area? (Yes, I'm suggesting you buy something even though I said to purge. Counter-intuitive but the La Mer is that good.) Thanks for sharing - you always have great taste.
Honey, that is the purged collection. ;) As for expensive concealers, I've been eyeing the Cle de Peau. Not ready to part with the cash for that yet...
LOL, you are adorable! I bought the Cle de Peau a couple of years ago and after all of the hype was expecting more. It creased up no matter how carefully I applied so I was thoroughly disappointed. The La Mer is much better! It is Holy Grail good.

Marnie, Do you think it's possible to use one of the extra drawers? The reason I ask is that since your drawers are quite deep, you might be forgetting to use some of the makeup in the back. Maybe you could put empty boxes in the back to make the drawers more shallow and then take that makeup and move it to one of the other drawers? It may be tricky to move some things around but worth it if you are able to reach your makeup better. Just a thought.
I might do that...right now I don't have anything to shove back there. Wait...I just realized I have some empty stuff in another cabinet...you're brilliant!!!

If u like coffee, try using coffee beans to hold your brushes, they smell amazing (different flavors different scents) and they don't jump out like the little balls :)
Curious where you got the lipstick container that fits in the drawer. Is that Container Store too? I appreciate that you gave ideas for organizing in the bathroom. Many YTers that I watch have whole rooms dedicated to makeup, which I simply don't have room for. Your ideas are more realistic for me to implement.
Hmmmm. Can you do a cream eyeshadow collection detail video oneday? Comparison, by brand or by similar color, ranking top 10, best and worst.... Just an idea stroke me.
I did one awhile ago, and just did a blog post of my favorite Zoya polishes. Nothing really has changed since the last video. I keep them in plastic shoe boxes sorted by color.

Love the containers... I need some more... FYI Real Techniques makes a new makeup sponge like the Beauty blender.. I actually like it better and it is only 6 dollars at Ulta. (A lot less for sure .....and those ladies that may be on a budget and still want a makeup sponge) You could do a comparison video.. :)
I have a question about cream eye shadows. Are they the same cream eye shadows that were popular in the 70's? Or are they a creamy powder? The stuff in the 70's was about the consistency of soft lipstick and melted and creased easily.
I don't really know much about the makeup in the 70's since I was 7 when they ended, but they're more like a creamy powder. Why don't you pick up some from the drugstore and see what's changed in the last 30 years? ;) I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks, I might give it a try. I was a teenager in the 70s and my mom sold Avon. The cream eye shadows came in a tube and were not very blendible...sort of like applying Crayola crayons on your face. :) I'm glad they.ve improved over the years.
I have a question, and maybe this is a video all of it's own because I never see videos on this topic but, how do you decide each day what makeup you're going to wear? I know lots of us give thought to what clothes we're going to wear the next day (something I need to work on). Do you approach your FOTD the same way or is it on a whim or do you go through stages where you wear the same thing and then have to force yourself to change it up? Just wondering :) x
I have a few fallback options, like WnW Walking on Eggshells, but generally I either match something to what I'm wearing that day or, more often, I try to follow a tutorial from someone else that I watch on YT. That's another reason why I bring my laptop in the bathroom with me when I get dressed.

Hi Marnie, as a future teacher, I would be interested in hearing your opinion on the education system in America. I would be particularly interested to hear about your opinion of the education system in Texas. I know that some places in Texas still use corporal punishment in schools and some schools have re-written the textbooks to take a completely biblical approach instead of a scientific approach. I'm also interested to hear what your take is on the education system in general since you were a teacher and I am planning on going into the field. Thank you in advance!
Oh my...that's a whole video in itself! I can't speak to the entire state of education in Texas, but, in general, I am disgusted with how our State Board of Education has hijacked common sense and replaced it with religious wing nuts. The public school system is not the place for religion. I love the US because it allows people the choice to send their kids to a religious-based school if they want, but the public schools should have a non-biased, fact based curriculum. Generally, I think our public schools are quite good, but there's always room for improvement. However, I think we need a stronger partnership with parents and the community at large. Too many parents think that the schools/teachers should handle everything, and they forget their role in their own children's success. I think the best teachers are smart teachers, and they need to be educated well. I think a masters degree should be a requirement for all teachers after a certain point. And I think they should be paid A LOT more!! We need the best and brightest to teach our future!
I also have to add that while I think corporal punishment might be a bit harsh, I think discipline has gone out the window. There are no real consequences for bad behavior anymore. What ever happened to staying in during recess and cleaning desks or sweeping the cafeteria floor? I think schools are too worried about getting sued and parents are too quick to blame the schools instead of teaching their children manners and respect. And...that's it for tonight's soap box!

i use jasmine long rice in my brush containers and it works perfect!!

Looks great and nicely organized! Maybe a purge of stuff you just don't find you love? I've got the Muji (bought online in a leap of faith) and I love them. Did a major purge (especially lipsticks and glosses) and the only things I don't have in my Muji drawers are backups. Sometimes it kind of hurts to get rid of something (especially a pricey item) but I tell myself that my makeup storage real estate is valuable. And I know you love concealer - it's really pricey (but totally worth it) but have you considered trying the La Mer concealer for the under eye area? (Yes, I'm suggesting you buy something even though I said to purge. Counter-intuitive but the La Mer is that good.) Thanks for sharing - you always have great taste.
Honey, that is the purged collection. ;) As for expensive concealers, I've been eyeing the Cle de Peau. Not ready to part with the cash for that yet...
LOL, you are adorable! I bought the Cle de Peau a couple of years ago and after all of the hype was expecting more. It creased up no matter how carefully I applied so I was thoroughly disappointed. The La Mer is much better! It is Holy Grail good.

Do you think it's possible to use one of the extra drawers? The reason I ask is that since your drawers are quite deep, you might be forgetting to use some of the makeup in the back. Maybe you could put empty boxes in the back to make the drawers more shallow and then take that makeup and move it to one of the other drawers? It may be tricky to move some things around but worth it if you are able to reach your makeup better. Just a thought.
I might do that...right now I don't have anything to shove back there. Wait...I just realized I have some empty stuff in another cabinet...you're brilliant!!!

Nice collection, my collection has to live in toiletry bags in a very small cupboard under the stairs. Your bathroom is bigger than my sons bedroom.

That's because I don't have a collection. I usually only have 1-2 perfumes at a time.
If u like coffee, try using coffee beans to hold your brushes, they smell amazing (different flavors different scents) and they don't jump out like the little balls :)

Curious where you got the lipstick container that fits in the drawer. Is that Container Store too? I appreciate that you gave ideas for organizing in the bathroom. Many YTers that I watch have whole rooms dedicated to makeup, which I simply don't have room for. Your ideas are more realistic for me to implement.

Love the containers... I need some more... FYI Real Techniques makes a new makeup sponge like the Beauty blender.. I actually like it better and it is only 6 dollars at Ulta. (A lot less for sure .....and those ladies that may be on a budget and still want a makeup sponge) You could do a comparison video.. :)

I have a question about cream eye shadows. Are they the same cream eye shadows that were popular in the 70's? Or are they a creamy powder? The stuff in the 70's was about the consistency of soft lipstick and melted and creased easily.
I don't really know much about the makeup in the 70's since I was 7 when they ended, but they're more like a creamy powder. Why don't you pick up some from the drugstore and see what's changed in the last 30 years? ;) I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Thanks, I might give it a try. I was a teenager in the 70s and my mom sold Avon. The cream eye shadows came in a tube and were not very blendible...sort of like applying Crayola crayons on your face. :) I'm glad they.ve improved over the years.
I have a question, and maybe this is a video all of it's own because I never see videos on this topic but, how do you decide each day what makeup you're going to wear? I know lots of us give thought to what clothes we're going to wear the next day (something I need to work on). Do you approach your FOTD the same way or is it on a whim or do you go through stages where you wear the same thing and then have to force yourself to change it up? Just wondering :) x
I have a few fallback options, like WnW Walking on Eggshells, but generally I either match something to what I'm wearing that day or, more often, I try to follow a tutorial from someone else that I watch on YT. That's another reason why I bring my laptop in the bathroom with me when I get dressed.

Hi Marnie, as a future teacher, I would be interested in hearing your opinion on the education system in America. I would be particularly interested to hear about your opinion of the education system in Texas. I know that some places in Texas still use corporal punishment in schools and some schools have re-written the textbooks to take a completely biblical approach instead of a scientific approach. I'm also interested to hear what your take is on the education system in general since you were a teacher and I am planning on going into the field. Thank you in advance!
Oh my...that's a whole video in itself! I can't speak to the entire state of education in Texas, but, in general, I am disgusted with how our State Board of Education has hijacked common sense and replaced it with religious wing nuts. The public school system is not the place for religion. I love the US because it allows people the choice to send their kids to a religious-based school if they want, but the public schools should have a non-biased, fact based curriculum. Generally, I think our public schools are quite good, but there's always room for improvement. However, I think we need a stronger partnership with parents and the community at large. Too many parents think that the schools/teachers should handle everything, and they forget their role in their own children's success. I think the best teachers are smart teachers, and they need to be educated well. I think a masters degree should be a requirement for all teachers after a certain point. And I think they should be paid A LOT more!! We need the best and brightest to teach our future!
I also have to add that while I think corporal punishment might be a bit harsh, I think discipline has gone out the window. There are no real consequences for bad behavior anymore. What ever happened to staying in during recess and cleaning desks or sweeping the cafeteria floor? I think schools are too worried about getting sued and parents are too quick to blame the schools instead of teaching their children manners and respect. And...that's it for tonight's soap box!

I don't think as much of it expires as we're led to believe. The only thing I tend to get rid of is liquid or cream based items.
