    What I found that appears to be the correct size and easily accessible is the metal on the side that holds up hanging files.

      The metal inside a hanging file folder is the perfect size.

      Some wood stir sticks are that size too. They are about a 1/4" across and are ridged so they would be easy to wrap. You would have to replace them occasionally because they will wear down but you should be ok because you are after all buying a pack of them. I use them in all sorts of crafts.
