You really saved me by telling me about the jurisprudence exam! I’m moving to Texas and didn’t know anything about it, thank you!
Im so glad it was helpful👏🏼😊 Also the bhec website has been updated a lot since I made this video so they definitely have a more detailed checklist on their site. Wishing you the best with your move!
As a POC and first Gen, I struggle to find the right information I need to accomplish my goals. Thank you so much for these videos!! 🙂
I'm right there with you, I'm 24 and only graduated high school in CA and I really want to be a therapist. Not only do I greatly enjoy being there for someone to vent to, why not get paid for it right?!
That means so much, thank you! And 💯 we’ll just create our own community and space to learn what we need and feel supported as poc and first gen🎉 So happy You’re here🥹

Cada vez que te escucho hablar de el proceso me pongo tan feliz por ti!
Gracias! 💛😊
Thanks so much for sharing, this brings me relief to hear your study methods and how not to over think too much, practice self care and just to pace myself through the process. I am scheduled to take my NCE in October, and i graduate with my masters in clinical mental health counseling in August. I am planning on starting to study as soon as I finish school, but still feel some anxiousness about it! I am also from the RGV (Harlingen area) so seeing someone local share their experience and story is great!! thank you :)
Hi Izel! Aww congratulations on almost graduating! 🎉✨It’s always exciting getting to connect with other future counselors from the valley. Good luck with the NCE, you totally got this!👏🏼 I’m so glad my videos are helpful💛
Thank you for this video! I just passed my NCE and I am gathering all this information now. Thank you
Me too. How are you going about looking for supervision?
@@TheAuthenticAppeal where are you located? I have an amazing supervisor who is actually helping me build my private practice. That way I can build my clientele while I finish my hours as a school counselor.
@@AlterYourEgos wow that sounds amazing. I’m in Texas, close to the downtown Dallas area.
@@TheAuthenticAppeal I am in Austin right around the corner 😜
Deyanira, thank you very much for all the information and guidance you are giving us. All of your videos have been SUPER helpful to me.
Thank you Yanay! So, so happy they've helped.
Thanks for sharing! I appreciate how you talked about the specific steps you took to obtain your goal.
Thanks so much!😊
Thank you for the information and timeline. Your information was clear, concise, and to the point. I really appreciate that. Blessings.
You are amazing. I will support you
Thank you so so so much for posting this! I really appreciate it

Great video thank you!
Congrats 👏🏽🎉
Thank you!😊
Very helpful! Thanks 😊
Can you post the websites where you begin your steps? I am currently living in another state headed to TX.
I’m wondering if there is a a way to be a LPC associate online ? Basically during the time where you need the 3000 or so hours of supervision before becoming a LPC if there are ways to do it via a telehealth platform. I really want to work as a counselor online primarily in the long run but the 18 months minimum sounds like a long time and I’m in a small town where it may be harder to find a place to be supervised working more full time (my Prac supervisor for school I can make work since it’s only 100 hours needed but his office is full of counselors already so I’m guessing I won’t be able to stay there when I graduate sadly unless someone leaves)
Did you ever find out about this question?
Are you required to take the jurisprudence test, before taking the NCE exam? Also, once I pass the NCE exam, is there a additional fee to apply for my license in Texas? And lastly, what are some study materials such as books, that you recommended us using for the NCE? (Perhaps a video is Helpful) 🙏
It says on the TBHEC website that we have to take it “prior to submitting your application for license. Please note, the exam must be completed no earlier than six months prior to submission of your application.” I took it when I did to get it out of the way. I definitely had to look through their website a lot and there’s more info now so definitely look through it because they have resources too. Had to go back and look through my emails because it’s been a minute lol but I paid $221 to submit the application for the license and that was the last thing. I have a dedicated video in my NCE video playlist dedicated to the study materials I used if you want to check that out.😊
Thank u so much!
wow Blessing THANK YOU SO much!
@@nitat2873 Likewise! Your welcome 😊
Is there a book guide to study for the NCE?
my degree is from LSUS in Shreveport. How do I find a supervisor in Texas? Thanks...We are moving to Texas...
Do you recommend taking the juries and the NCE after you completed masters program or during the completion of the masters program?
Hey! Thank you for your video. I am taking my exam at the very end of July. Could you share your study timeline / study plan? I’m having trouble scheduling my time accordingly. Thanks in advance!
Hi! Congratulations! One step closer!👏🏼🎉 I studied for about 2 months after graduating and went through the audio for 1 month and dedicated the rest of the time to the purple book. I followed the order the audio came in and studied for 2-4 hours a day, depending on the day. Some days I’d study in the morning and others at night and if I felt tired I’d take a day or 2 off. It was impossible to get through everything in that amount of time so I focused a lot on really learning the areas that weren’t as difficult because the research portion was rough for me personally even in grad school so I didn’t bother wasting too much time on it. I have a dedicated NCE playlist if you haven’t watched those videos yet but that’s basically what I did. I hope that helps.😊 I get bad test anxiety so I didn’t want to prolong how long I had to study for, mindset definitely plays a huge role.
Hey there! so once i become an LPC in ohio, i plan on relocating to texas. Wil i drop down to an LPC-A? the rules in different states kill me
Hey did you pay for supervision hours ?
HI. Don't you have to complete some internship hours in order to get the LPC? In NJ, people need to complete 4,500 so they can get the LPC. Gracias por tus videos.
Hi, yes in Texas you have to complete 3,000 hours to get your LPC and until then we are licensed as LPC-associates. So interesting how we have different requirements in each state, right?
@@Keep_On_Growing Yes and I don't understand why we have to complete so many hours...so annoying 😒. I'm studying to take my test this year.. Thank you for responding.
I just graduated with my M. Ed in school counseling. Do I have to take the NCE before completing my supervised hours to become a LPC?
Hi! To get the LPC in Texas first we have to take the NCE, apply for an LPC-Associate License, complete our hours, and then we can apply for our LPC. Definitely check out the Texas stateboard website though and it’ll have the steps and rules there for you😊
Could you please tell me how much mark I'll need to get to do well in SQE and what to do after passing SQE ?
How do I know what questions will be on the jurisprudence exam? I’ve tried searching for study guides but not really finding anything helpful. Any links? Thank you!
Hi! You don’t need to study for it it’s “open book” they have the passages for you as you’re reading and answering.
@@Keep_On_Growing Great! Thank you so much for the help!
What is the cheapest online program?
How much does it cost to apply for the LPC-A?
Hey, thanks so much for your video. I have a Masters in Psychology. I’ve also taken the Jurisprudence exam. I have pretty much tried to complete the process myself with the information from the TBHEC website. However, I have concerns now. Am I able to complete this process with a masters degree in psychology or will I have to complete an actual counseling program?
Hi! The examination for psychology is different from the one for those pursuing an LPC. I would email them with your concerns so they can clarify it for you because that’s a good question. I’ve never encountered someone from a Masters in Psychology program taking the NCE but to be fair that’s because I came from a counseling program.
@@Keep_On_Growing thanks a bunch for your quick response. I was thinking I could become a LPC Associate since I have a Masters in Psychology but it sounds like I have to do a counseling program first.
@@KayMishellA84 Of course! No problem. I’m not sure if you already watch the channel Private Practice Skills but the psychologist there makes really great videos that could be helpful along your journey. ruclips.net/user/PrivatePracticeSkills
@@Keep_On_Growing this is great. Thank you.
Hey! Did you ever happen to find out? I also have a degree in psyc but the problem with general psyc degrees is that they only offer 30-40 grad credits typically. From what I understand the LPC required 60+ but let me know if that’s not true cause I’d love to be eligible
Hi, do you know anything about having graduate school done + the exam in one state and then moving to TX and getting your LPC supervision hours there? I know all states have different requirements but it seems to be different info everywhere!
Hi Sabina! I have heard different things too so I would call the Texas state board through the nbcc website contact information so they can walk you through anything you have to do process-wise since you tested in a different state. It can be so confusing for sure!
@@Keep_On_Growing thank you!
Congrats! I’m in Texas…How do you go about having your transcripts evaluated?
Can you get your LPC w/a Bachelors in Behavioral Health?
I have a question so after I finish my bachelors I can start practicing , it’s called graduate school? or do I have to wait the full 8 years cause I need to finish the bach and I need the masters to become officially licensed
Hi! You have to get a Master’s degree to apply for your license to become a counselor/therapist, so yes you would have to go through graduate school too. For work after you graduate with your bachelors you can apply for jobs like case manager, facilitator, coordinator, or other jobs in the mental health field that don’t require a license. I believe you could apply to be an LCDC with your bachelors so that’s definitely something to look into if you want to work with addictions. Definitely check out the BHEC website because it gives you the Texas requirements.
@@Keep_On_Growing thank you !!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Did you work anywhere right after graduation? How did you support yourself?
Hi! My only job at the time was through my main RUclips channel because I gave myself that time post grad to concentrate on studying since I had spent most of grad school working. My husband was a huge support during that period between studying to then starting to work as an LPC-Associate, financially we were able to do this because our living expenses were lower during this time too.
