Great review! For those who didn´t know; the great Jeff Porcaro used the 14x3,5 brass free floater a lot in the mid 80´s.

The bronze one is the best. However, you can never go wrong with Pearl

I bought my first Free Floating snare about 25 years ago... and absolutely loved using it. I picked up the brass, maple and stainless steel shells (though I used the maple shell the most).
It's good to see the non-gloss finish on the drums now... much better.

I just bought the Maple mahogany 14 x 6.5..As soon as I took it out of the box I went through the whole tuning range...this snare drum can cover any genre of music and any tension you prefer...It sounds great at all tensions!..I play jazz fusion and i have it on the high end of the tunning range and i love how it sounds! You can hear the shell at all ranges low ..med..or high..it resonates beautifully..not in a ringy way either.. But rather a tonal sustain type of resonant way...The snares are very sensitive and gives it almost a reverb type of sound on the snare wires..at all tunning ranges. You can literally use this one snare drum for country, rock, jazz, fusion, funk, and pop.. and it's high quality makes it perfect for recording in the studio also. There is no ugly unwanted cheap sounding stuff going on there at all its total perfection in a snare drum and everything I could have ever wanted in a snare drum. I will be using this snare drum as my main snare on my kit for a very very long time.. I don't see many drums out there that will Top this.. it is not a cheap drum at all it made with the highest quality materials it is on the expensive side i payed $500.00 brand new on line. Its not on the absurdly expensive side.. it's affordable if you really want high-end gear .I will recommended it to any drummer that wants a great snare sound. I love it and cherish it. It sounds incredible this video you're watching is a very good representation of how it sounds ..it's pretty much spot-on ..also when you hit it with a rimshot it is very loud and Powerful and on the other end of the spectrum is so sensitive that you can drop a pin on it and it will respond. I bought it! I have it! I know!.. it's worth buying! also.. it feels great when you hit it ..It comes with top-quality drum heads Remo ambassadors top and bottom.. bottom is the ambassador snare side.. the top is the ambassador batter head.. The strainer is top quality and feels great and the copper Pearl snare wires that come with it are premium and do not need to be changed at all. Out-of-the-box this snare is ready to go!..Just tune it to your styel and sound you want it will preform and will not dissipoint! I assure that..I know what a good drum should like..this a very fine instrument built to last and will do the Job for any music. I am not endorsed by Pearl nor any drum company I am just a seasoned drummer who knows what I like and what is good I hope my review can't help anybody who was on the fence about this drum and that's the only reason I wrote this so you guys know what you're getting and what you're getting is a fantastic snare if you decide to purchase one.

I would def buy the bronze shell. It sounds best at a high tuning but can give that thick backbeat when needed.

Great demos on all the snares, although I probably would have down-tuned the phosphor bronze FF about a half a step for me. What ride cymbal is that your using for the demo? It sounds really sweet as a ride and crash.
I have a 1980s-1990s 6.5x14 steel Free Floater with 2nd generation hardware. I will never part with it. I wish Pearl would consider reissuing the steel FF in 6.5x14 for a change. Hats off for a great demonstration.
