14:36 error in my editing, friends! When printing with the grass - I’m NOT letting the blue paint dry. 🤦♀️ The last pull is with wet paint. Going to see if I can fix the editing! (Also at 17:30)
Thank you for sharing your 'experimenting' with leaves and gel plate. I think for several of them a combination of cropping to make a piece of art and using the rest of the sheet for collage would work. I loved the effect of the grasses for texture.
Very timely comment! I was just thinking about taking a cropping tool around some pieces to see what compositions I might find. 😍😍 Thanks for your comment!
After ECO Dying, which I love so much…. This is great way to get some great leaves into my junk journal. Love the evergreen pull! And the sticks! Genius! I’m about to walk my dog, and stab some things from my yard! Love your channel! I’ll be binging these tonight! 🌿🍀🌾🍃🖌❤️👍🙏🏻
If I had to choose, I would choose the one at 21:49 in your video. With that being said, there are many of them I like as well. 22:09 really strikes my interest as well
Love all of your prints, esp the one with gold and red twig marks. I often lay leaves on black surface and pull with metallic silver, gold, etc, and these prints sell very well, people love them. I do 5x7 in 8x10 mat usually, black mats look great. I do keep a separate brayer for my black, which helps. Also found at end of last fall that if I paint both sides of leaves they tend to last thru the winter.
My first leaf prints painting was on a black background! And SO popular! So I know exactly what you mean! Love the other tips you commented. Thanks so much for taking the time to share! 💕
I loved the payne's gray with the grass imprint and the nickel azo gold/magenta with the fir tree fronds. I especially enjoy your color blending and have purchased a couple of the colors as a result. I think a few of the pieces lend themselves to being completed artwork, and others I would use as to cover small boxes or use as a background for a photo or in other artwork.
They are beautiful. I hope you share some of your collage work. A collection of a few of these framed would be stunning on wall. Great video. Great teacher. Thank you.
Love the leaf shapes as individual pieces of art, as well as the pieces made with the grasses! Love how you used green gold, yellow hues and metallic gold! … and the tealish color! Thank you so much for sharing your techniques and your artwork! 😍🥰
the last few are my favorites, the grass, the green leaves and the magenta last one, which is very boho. the grass ones with the spots are very cool!! love the dark color, i would totally hang those. i just subbed because i love how natural you are in doing these!! your flow is mesmerizing to watch. 💛🤎🖤
The grass ones are some of my favorites too! I really need to scan them in and offer prints of them. I think they’d make beautiful wall art. Thanks again for your kind comments!
I think my favorite piece had the leaf prints on the gold background with the red from the sticks. That and some of the other prints would be beautiful if framed. I thought that was good use of a negative print with the hand pressed leaf impressions showing through. I will definitely be trying a similar version of the two prints described above. I also want to try some grasses. Excellent video. Thank you1
Great video. Printing with leaves is one of my absolute favourite things to do. Many of the prints make fabulous stand alone pieces of art and look great when framed. I also really like to preserve my favourite leaves by soaking them in 2:1 ratio of water to glyercine for a couple of days. You can then use them many, many times over.
I just received the 12 x 14 inch gelli plate for a Mothers Day present. I can't wait to try the 🌿 prints. I haven't the nerve to try anything yet. It's on my craft table with a box of paint and a stack of different papers and that is as far as I have gotten. So I am watching videos today. Thanks for the video.
Oh my goodness!! I hope my videos inspire you to get that plate out and PLAY!!! I also have a video of me using that size plate for the first time! ruclips.net/video/N1CB67F8lYo/видео.html
I like the very first one at minute 19:00 the best. I think it would be great as the background for a portrait using an image transfer from a photo or a magazine. The jewel plate is great for doing that.
Jennifer I definitely think that some of your work is already art ,I would frame it and hang it up especially the long grass one it's just beautiful , but don't just take my opinion and someone else and see what they say , I would put it in a bamboo frame it would look wonerful , and maybe you might just sell it because I'm sure it would sell , I definitely love your work , it reminds me of how I make my own papers , I a!so use deli paper , the unwaxed or waxed on one said that's what I use all the time and I also by a roll because it's more cost effective and use the unwaxed side , I subscribed to your channel because I want to see what you come up with next , your very charming to tell all your steps and show what you're using , that's a plus with me , I hate when people don't tell you what they're doing , well you take care Jennifer , I'll be watching ,can't wait for some more good stuff .my name is Linda Bailey Linda it says , and I'm 73 years old have been doing art my entire life , I love to be creative , there is nothing better for stress , continue to do it for the rest of your life , because life is art !
Hello, Linda! Your comment is so sweet. Thank you for taking the time to connect with me. 💕 I just turned 40 & had too many years where I didn’t make my art. I’m doing my best to keep it a priority!! 😍😍 Oh, and I agree, I’m going to sell some of these as stand alone pieces of artwork. I love them!
These are beautiful. I especially love the tall grass and the evergreens. I can see why people wanted to buy them. I’m going to pick some Holly leaves and attempt some Christmas cards. Hugs ❤️❤️❤️
These are gorgeous, Jennifer! Leaves have always been very special to me & I love them in art, so this was really fun for me to watch! I like the ones with really strong & clear images of leaves best, even though those aren’t probably the most “artistic” ones! I also really like the ones with the grasses. I’d like to see you make a collage with these, or at least some of these, because I can’t quite visualize how this would look! I also think they would be good framed, but I don’t have much extra wall space left, so I’m not looking at them with that in mind. This was really fascinating to watch, I’m going to have to watch it a few more times to get the rhythm of the different layers that you created, because that’s kind of a jumble in my mind! I think I will understand the process better, when I actually try this myself!! Thanks so much! BTW, are you near where the tornado hit the other night? This tornado season has really started up fiercely given that it’s usually April-September that are the worst months. Stay safe & I know your studio is on the top floor, but don’t stay up there too long if those sirens start wailing!! Take care!
Hello! Yes, thanks for checking in. We are exactly where the tornado hit and it was too close to home for my liking! I’m so grateful that it didn’t touch my neighborhood and I was only without power for a couple hours. 💕💕 I’m so glad you enjoyed this video and I hope you try your own. I find this process fun and relaxing. So I hope you try it & just have fun with it! Thanks again for your thoughtful comments, Erica! 💕💕
@@jennifertobinart oh dear! I didn’t know it was right there. The news said “northwest” Arkansas. Maybe you should move your studio to the basement, mine is also upstairs & I’ve thought about that myself. So glad that you’re ok! Wow, it wasn’t even April then & April thru July are supposed to be the busiest tornado months! Stay safe!
The other unfortunate thing is that most of us don’t have basements here. (Which I hate!) The ground is very rocky here and so unless you’re on a hill, you probably don’t have a basement. 😬 You stay safe too! 💕💕
Love ALL of these If I HAD to pick favs, then the first pickup print, and the last two. That 2nd last one actually looks like you’ve used plaster or moulding paste in the white parts. And the last gold/red one -- swoon ❤️. When you were creating it I thought “no way those light layers are going to show up with that dark last colour” but it looks so rich - like tapestry. If I turned out anything with as much depth as you achieved, those puppies would go on the wall as art.
Ooooooh, yes it does remind me of tapestry as well!! And that’s a favorite of mine… when prints look like fabric! 🥰🥰 And yes, the first print with teal is yummy! I appreciate your comment. Made my morning. 💕
How would you suggest to varnish a print that you want to frame? Do you use an acrylic clear medium paint or spray? I found your videos to be very organized and easy to follow and also inspiring!
@@rwws1387 hello! And thanks for the kind comment. That means a lot! I used to teach public school art and this has been a fun way to keep teaching. 😍 I use spray varnish on paper because it’s just so much faster and easier. It’s actually packing paper that my movers used. 🫣 Not claiming it’s good quality or anything. But I had TONS of it and I do enjoy using it on my gel plate. 💖💖
Honestly, not very long! Just until I can touch the plate and I don’t have paint on my finger. You can zap with a hair dryer on cool setting to speed it up. Thanks for commenting and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 💖
I don’t understand how you’ve been able to print the last 2 pieces letting the second layer (the one with the grass pattern) dry. How does a dry layer print?..🤔😳
Good question! So, a dry layer will not print on its own. But once you add a new layer of wet paint, then it will lift up multiple layers of paint, ideally everything that’s on the plate. So, letting one layer dry keeps it from being blurred or ruined - then add a new layer of paint (in a contrasting color) to pull up the print! Let me know if you try it 💕
I came here to ask the same question - because in the video there is no new wet layer of paint applied to the dry grass impression on the plate - we just see a previously made background page pressed on top of what appears to be dry paint. Was a transparent layer applied but edited out maybe?
@@jillcww oh my goodness!!! You’re right, it’s an editing error!! But, not that I cut out video. Just that I put “let dry” and that isn’t a point I actually let my paint dry! I’ll have to see if I can fix that. Thanks for letting me know!
