    • @LazerLord10
      @LazerLord10 4 года назад +8

      @@Sean-Ax The new fit is a hybrid-only, if I recall correctly (4th gen fit). A fit Si would make more sense to compete with the corolla hatch in terms of power, anyway. Plus, I haven't heard any official word from Honda about the Fit in the US. With the previous generations, it has always been a year or so before the new gen comes to NA from the rest of the world, so I'm hoping for that. But NA hates subcompacts for some reason.

    I’m glad we get all this simplicity without an upmark here in Europe. It’s not a special and sporty feature we have manuals for some weird reason. I’m a late 90’s kid and I remember it was still a luxury to get powered windows and abs in an economy hatch IN 2005, let alone automatic transmissons. Those were considered a luxurious feature (kudos to VW making us believe that at least). The market is changing but still, manuals are here to stay because anyone who can afford a new car cheaps out on options and trim levels and since manuals are considered widely available and servicable they are here to stay as the lowest and cheapest trim level.

    • @p0rtp0rt

      Ironically they now don't sell a manual corolla in Europe (or the UK at least)! The irony

    • @beseakos
      @beseakos 4 года назад

      p0rtp0rt, well uk has always been in an interesting spot in terms of car market. Probably depends a lot on the average income and the customer habits. Here in Hungary it’s a really even split between manuals and autos when it comes to new cars, however if the car is not a premium saloon or a hybrid it’s most likely gonna be a manual if it’s sold that way. Mainly maintenance cost is the reason people ignore the automatics. Not many people are qualified to work on them since there weren’t many so the cost of a simple routine transmission fluid change is awfully high and you need to have someone qualified to do it because apparantely most laws do not allow wrenching your own car so good luck with even a lip spoiler let alone an inch larger set of wheels (not mentioning you need to have paperwork done about the transmission fluid change because the next time you have your car examined they might suspect you also have “illegal modifications”).

    People put them on regular 6MTs without thinking (or because they want it to look like that car they saw on youtube.)

  • @crztank9298
    @crztank9298 4 года назад +7

    Please rcr, stop talking technicalities, you don't have to change cams/valves/throttle body/remap the ecu or header with a catback to gain power. Exhausts decrease the exhaust gas retention, intakes increase volumetric efficiency. Modern ecus are constantly adjusting the long term and short term fuel trims and ignition maps.
    Any decrease in exhaust gas retention will increase volumetric efficiency and reduce pumping losses.
    With such a high cr motor and reduction in said exhaust gas reduction will result in more spark advance, which leads to torque and hp increase. (rant over)

    I drove a Corolla sedan during my new car search. It was just fine. Adequate power, adequate room, adequate trunk space. But "adequate" was all it was. In a market segment where Mazda evokes sports sedan imagery and Honda builds mini-Acuras, the Corolla never lets you forget you're driving a Corolla. This car is what the Civic, Neon, 1st gen Focus, and Sentra used to be in the late 90s. It's reasonably priced, NA 4 cylinder, manual transmission, and it gets good gas mileage. This is a budget enthusiast's car. Remember when 170hp was really good for a 4 cylinder? Like the B18 was it for years. You got like 120-130 from a regular 4 cylinder 20 years ago. It's the old, "it's more fun to drive a slow car fast" thing. Not everything needs 250+ horsepower to be fun. Now if they can stop making all cars the same "this is what cars will look like in the future, hurrr!" style.....I guess this is the new malaise era, at least in styling.

    If CVTs replace the standard tc automatic "slushbox" transmissions (instead of them being replaced by double-clutch automatic transmissions), then maybe there will be more people wanting to drive a manual instead, considering these choices, because the CVT is the least reliable of all automatic transmission types. Unfortunately, here in Europe it looks like tc slushboxes are being replaced by DCTs, and therefore they take over the manual world as well (because objectively, they are better in almost every respect, except for the fun to drive).

    Thank you for ripping into this dude; saying his mods are “tasteful” is obviously hiding what you really mean. The mods suck. The kid has pipe dreams of a performance car. The mods suck for a normal car like this. I hated the car this dude had, because of the mods and fake badging.

    Just wait boys - the massive deals on great cars are coming in a few months. Dealerships are choking on cars and returned leases, rental companies are going bankrupt, people will be forced to sell thier toys to raise money. The question is - will anyone have the liquid cash or be able to get a loan to take advantage of them?

    So, this explains that Mobil 1 0W-16 I saw at the parts store last month that made me think, "that's an oddly specific weight of oil..."
    Also, that's a really strange bore / stroke ratio, surprised it revs as high as it does! Overall though, I think they're headed in a good direction with this generation Corolla.

  • @vandalpaulius

    Can we all just appreciate how good these Corollas look now? Especially compared to the previous generation. I still think E140 hatchbacks were really really good looking cars, but this is not far away from that

    Its not a manuel for gearheads
    Its a Manuel because the car is a European market car in the states
    In europe a auto is alot more expensive to repair or replace
    And in almost all mechanics almost struggle to fix one because they aren't use to a auto

    I have the sedan version. All Incan say is it handles well and that's it. As for the infotainment system. You'll need an iPhone unless they finally updated it and now you can use Android auto and apple car play.
