He didn't "drift into the driving line of the _other_ driver", he was continuing into _the_ driving line, and the other driver bit off more than he could chew. He shouldn't have tried to overtake at that location unless he was massively faster than the OP, which he clearly wasn't. He thought he was hot shit and they both paid for it. What he should have done was slowed down and followed the OP until there was a safe spot to pass. I mean, mistakes happen, but this was not the OP's fault. He was in front, and as such has the right of way.
100% agree. My heart was pounding… it looked so quick (and controlled) I was super angsty that something really big, at high speed (like a tyre letting go or something), was going to happen… given the title. Anticipation was mega😳
Let alone trying to pass until the camera car decided to moved back onto the racing line and ended up on the red car. Are you on the racing line, or on the other side of the track from it, then last second back on it? Not picking one is silly at those speeds as you saw. Glad everyone is safe.
To me it looks as a miscalculated divebomb. He hasn't seen it coming and the guy though he would havegotten by. Happens a lot and pisses out the guy in front but, hey, that's racing and shit happens.

I don't have mirrors as I wasn't driving, so I didn't now he was even on the track. Without seeing the track in person at that section, it's impossible to conclude exactly what happened. If you are in front, pick your line, that's your advantage. Stick to it if you want to finish?😀

Came of the track here a few times, was physically sick once with the spinning. To this day knockhill is a track I hate because I’m not good enough to get around it at a decent speed.
unbelievable how that happened. i was expecting some drama at duffus but after seeing how well you were driving i was wondering where the actual crash would have been. but to see some impatient driver trying to squeeze down the left side at that bend and at those speeds is utterly moronic.
The other driver will likely have good spatial awareness, he was just pushing hard to try to make a move on the camera car.. and having just come into the braking zone, probably just lost the rear end on the brakes either from inexperience or too much rear brake bias.. or being squeezed a bit, thought the gap was going to close completely and braked too hard. Highly doubt he just steered into him. If it was just a track day he shouldn't have been trying to race him though.

If you look at the track surface, it seems like the camera car moves off the racing line, which is the standard procedure to allow a faster driver to safely pass, then moves back across just before the braking zone. The worst place to cut someone off. The other driver likely didn't anticipate this and executed a power off emergency lane change while standing on the brakes, which these cars do not like at all. The rear comes out, you're off track, you don't want to hit the wall and roll it, so you react and go the other way. On grass, it's a guaranteed spin.

the car with the camera was fully on the right of the track, the other driver probably thought he was there to let them by. Misunderstanding obviously since the racing line on this track is somewhat to the right there.

His line was the same both laps. Car attempting pass had plenty of time to back out. This was only a track day. Any circuit that runs a track day/HPDE without required passing signals is foolish.
Brilliant track, Knockhill! I’ve been round it in one of those Atoms driven by a pro driver. Think it was the (usual) annual Supercar Day they have during the summer months where you pay a few quid for the experience. If you’ve never been and done it do it!! Glad the occupants were ok.
I thought they had a blow out at first. I was like they are damn lucky it didn't happen while braking for the corner. Great driving really knew that track. The other driver is lucky he didn't flip them over and kill them

Track day rules are just helmet and long sleeves. Mandatory gloves is racing only, and even then it always used to vary between championships - not sure about now as I always wear them when racing for safety. It’s far better driving without them though - far better.

Jesus man I knew Atoms are rapid but the speeds you were reaching, (especially when tight apexing those corners) are next level. I hope the car didn't sustain too much damage. Would love to see it from another perspective as it looked like the car that bumped you lost control. Rubbing is racing but always tough when you're not at fault. Fast track, Good car, GREAT driver. What were you doing over on the right hand side of Hislops then veering left for the hairpin? Normal line is stay left exiting Clark's, only going right to let someone past. If I was behind I'd have thought you were letting me through.

So you are correct to a point, I do know about this first hand. After my first week on an ambulance I swore I would never sit on a motorcycle again.

Did you have no idea he was there? Those mirrors are pretty tiny so I wouldn't be too surprised but got to get comfortable to the point where you know what's in front behind and on the sides. You're driving it pretty good you were taking it easy where you needed to... I would give yourself another inch or two when running out on the rumble strips.

It was a track day, so if a faster car is coming up, you can indicate and move over. My friend (the driver) wasn’t doing that. The car that hit us wasn’t actually driving faster, he just made a silly decision to try and accelerate and overtake when he should have been slowing down for the bend. He was very inexperienced:(

No, it was a crash. Another Atom hit us. Didn’t you see it? It was my friends car. Had the supercharged civic engine. Car had to be rebuilt after thus. Needed a new chassis:(

I was thinking the crash would have been from braking and messing up the balance to the point of oversteer...but this is way more frustrating
