I bought a YC a couple of weeks ago and it is so incredible that I can only play around with it for an hour or so before my brain explodes and I have to lie down for a reboot. Absolutely amazing.
This Yamaha YC series are now my favorite keyboards. Versatility, beautiful desing (like Nord as well😂) good sounds, lightweight body and competitive price. Good Job Yamaha.
@@sharingmatters The YC88 is not necessarily better than the Nordstage 3. I find the YC88 more pleasant and less complex to work with and I like the keybed a lot better. I also miss the XLR output and Audio interface on the Nordstage 3.
@@Robin_S78 Is it true you only have a limited number of patches (51) in the YC88 and you can't upload/change any? Also, why do you need an additional audio interface with YC? Can't you just connect it directly to a computer?
thanks for these videos! I just picked one of these up, it was on sale for the same price as the CP88 online, can't wait to get my hands on it and play it
Thanks dsoundman! I just purchased this bird and this saved me a lot of beginning set up time! I’m subscribed and enjoy all your videos Especially the worship setup ones!
I have been watching your for the Nord keyboard which I have a stage 3 but I am not satisfied of how it sits in a mix with my band. My first real board was the classic Motif 6 so I have been yamaha for years. I may sell the Nord and get this, I am curious to know have you made the switch
Hi D, do you know if it’s possible to shorten the release of the grand piano sounds in order to create a more funky piano sound? To my taste 5:59 the standard release times are too long in general on most presets. Hope you can help out😃
We are getting a new keyboard and we are torn whether to get a CP or YC - we want the keys with pads sound layering but also have the flexibikity to play with synths or strings (think those planetshakers songs or some experimental). Is YC a better choice?
Thanks for the video. I’m brand new to the yc 88. Always had a simple keyboard with presets. Once you create an original patch how do you store it. What are the steps. Ross
To save a patch, you press "store" and then click the big black knob next to the LCD display. Before pressing the enter knob, you also have the option to save your patch to a different location on the board.
Hey! Thanks for your excellent, helpful videos on the YC. can you do something on assigning Sustain? I have an issue with only KeysA sustaining, and not Keys B. I can't figure out how to assign the Sustain pedal to sustain Keys B ... Any tips? Or a video, perhaps?? Thanks so much!
@@duncanhazlewood8045 Just found it, its in Settings > Controllers > Recieve SW > Sustain, then set Organ to True Note: this is by patch and not a global setting
@@rorykaufmann1508 you’re awesome! Thank you so much! I’m guessing it will save that setting to the patch if I store the patch, so that should work. Thanks again!!
Hello! Please tell me, I bought a Yamaha YC 61 made for the Japanese market, it has a 110 volt plug, but I am in Russia and there are 220 V, but they say that there is a universal power supply inside and it can be connected to our 220 network. Is this true?
my church is planning on buying a cp88 for our worship ministry, is this synth pad layering possible on the cp88? can we achieve this same sound on cp88?
Hello i just get one yc 88 and i have a PROBLEM !!! is it possible to transpose - 2 ( for example )and then swapp between Live set and the transpose remain the same -2, because every time i change to another Live set it automatic puts the transpose to 0 !!!… i need to use the sounds in the same key -2 in this case , really need help thanks
Coming up on a year of owning this, and i am wondering if anyone else has this issue. Compared to my Roland’s and Rev2, the volume from this device doesn’t seem as loud. I have to turn sound all the way up for my sound guy to be able to do anything with it, whereas with my other keys, the volume is much louder at 1/2 way and that’s still louder than all the way for the YC. Also, I love how you modified the Noble Pad. I just stumbled upon that by chance today. What setting did you use to get the Noble Pad to play as a drone? Did you have a sustain pedal only assigned for the Noble and not the piano?
Have you adjusted the output on the internal settings? Not only is there a volume knob, but you can control the maximum output of the board. Another way to counteract this is to add a compressor and use that volume to boost your board. I have not experience low output, but I also had turned the internal output up before plugging into a sound system for the first time.
@@scooter9240 Whichever compressor is the first to show up in the list. Not the EQ band compressors. I turn the depth to about 15% and the rate to 75-90% depending on what I like.
Aside from not having a full synth engine like the Montage/Stage, yes. It has the same concept of sectioning out the keyboard by voice type and effect sends while including an organ VCM
You have to save your assignments to whichever patch you are using. It is a preset-based board, so you will need to assign most things to each preset. Another way to cheat the system is to copy a preset that you like, paste it on another spot, then you have all of your settings the way you like.
Would you acknowledge that the YC keybed is better than your Nord Stage 4? I’ve been struggling with a decision between a Nord Piano 5 and a Yamaha CP88.
I prefer the NS4 keybed. I think it's a better overall keybed for playing different sounds. That being said, if all I played was piano and I cared about a more authentic grand feel, I would lean towards the YC88 keybed.
Hello! Thank you for the video! Quick question! When you assign the B layer volume to the modulation stick, is this working just for the current patch your dealing with, or is it a general setting affecting the whole keyboard? Thank you!

I moved from Nord to Yamaha with no regret. Love your YC episodes!

Beautiful synth strings around the 3:45 mark reminded me of Chicane

you could map the mod stick to filter cutoff so you can control brightness and is it disappointing that the YC88 can't do a shimmer effect like SK can
YCs are intuitive and ispiring, all you need on a stage (i'm selling my nord electro), unless you need a real synth on the same board
How many layers can you add?
Is this the Yamaha "equivalent" of the Nord stage?
Aside from not having a full synth engine like the Montage/Stage, yes. It has the same concept of sectioning out the keyboard by voice type and effect sends while including an organ VCM
Quick question: Does this Yamaha allow room for downloading new sounds into the YC? (We can do this with the Nord).
Not really. Sometimes Yamaha has released new sounds with their updates, but you can’t bring samples onto it like you can with the Nord.
But you can play sounds via the USB midi/audio connector, even from an IPhone : possibilities are infinite…
when you asine something to one of the controlers, will that still be set the next time you turn the YC on? or will you have to re asine it again?
