      Also the idea of Genji born as a sand bender is refreshing to see. Having an Avatar born from a certain elemental branch is a new approach compared to having one born in a base element, which tbf is kinda a tedious route to go for at this point. I also would love to see a future fire Avatar born as a lightning bender instead of a regular fire bender or perhaps develop some other explored elemental branch for fire bending.

      @@laisensei6984 I love to see if an Avatar isn't a protagonist, story focused on someone who just a normal bender or non-bender. Or Avatar is antagonist like Sozin was wanting to be Roku.

    • @laisensei6984
      @laisensei6984 Год назад +13

      @@DisgustingMelodies A non-protagonist Avatar story is possible as it can be done in a form of someone telling the Avatar's story for a third person's view, but an antagonist Avatar story sounds kinda difficult to do, especially if it's something like "Sozin wanting to be Roku". For starters the Avatar is pretty much the embodiment of peak power in their world, so you can't really go higher than that. Another reason is that Raava from what I can tell is particularly careful in selecting the next incarnation of Avatar so that he or she unlikely go off the rail in some way (I get that being an antagonist doesn't necessarily mean be evil, but still).
      Here's how I imagine an antagonist Avatar story would go (or something that's close to one): after the introduction of Raava and Vaatu, we all know that neither can exist without the other, and now that Vaatu was temporarily destroyed by Korra, it's only a matter of time before he re-emerges from Raava (the same way Raava was reborn within Vaatu). So perhaps we can have a story where an Avatar happened to be born in a particularly bad environment or suffered a series of traumatic experience that stimulated his inner darkness, and Vaatu managed to sieze that chance and reborn within that Avatar. Because of all the negative emotions and traumas he or she has been through, the Avatar also gave a chance for Vaatu to take over Raava inside the Avatar and start rampaging in the world. By the time the Avatar came back to his or her senses, the damage has already been done and the Avatar is now public enemy number 1.
      The thing is I wouldn't set the Avatar that had gone rouge (or gone dark) as the main character of the story but rather as a background story or a prologue of the story (like how in ATLA, the fire nation invasion was served as its background story), and our actual protagonist/antangonist of the story would be the Avatar that came after. He would be born within a world where the Avatar is no longer viewed purely as a messiah but also as a ticking time bomb that could endanger the world. There would be a lot of skepticism surrounding our main character and he would have to walk a very path filled with thorns and could easily turn into the antagonist (or turn evil) at any point in the story.

I feel as this gives more of a purpose to the avatar than just be able to defeat the villain of a particular avatar's lifetime or being the "Savior" of the world, and there'll be more of a neverending reason to capturing them because there are thousands of avatars and 100s more that will keep coming for the future kind of like a pokemon-esq of catching them all but never really reaching it but being on the journey regardless.

    The thing about ethnically correct voice acting, to me at least, is that it doesn’t really matter. The characters in the show barely speak with an accent, and in any case, their accents should be different than ours. Either way, there is no actual racial difference to our voices. For example, if a Vietnamese person is adopted into an American family at a young age, they will speak perfect English. Now, since the characters in avatar all speak with pretty neutral American accents, I see no real reason why the voice actors has to change. Like, there is literally zero difference in the vocal chords of different “races”. It’s all in the language.

    • @ks9759
      @ks9759 Год назад +29

      Exactly. The idea is that the industry is still biased towards white actors, so there is an issue with ethnic actors getting the same opportunities as their white counterparts, and that absolutely needs to be addressed. But replacing currently casted actors with ethnic substitutes is not going to solve that issue. How about just make sure when you are casting a VA, you are picking the best actor for the job based on their talent and accurate portrayal of the character, and not their physical features or loose racial connections? Besides, if we delegate ethnic voice actors to only portraying characters they look like, that will minimize their career prospects even further, considering the lack of racial representation in current visual media. Seems pretty obvious, but the performative support movement is strong in these big corporations. Notice how they announce that they are hiring ethnic actors rather than just doing it like its a normal thing? "Look at us! We're so progressive!" Come on. Literally almost no one is going to know if the voice actor is white or not unless they are big nerds who follow that kind of behind the scenes news. It's hidden advocacy. If you want to portray accurate ethnic stories to the majority of consumers, put it where it makes a difference, in the visual side of storytelling, which Avatar is already doing! Just my thoughts.

      I think that being a pure meritocracy is only a fantasy. If a certain group has a systematic advantage, that group will have more experience, more connections , more opportunities accessible/offered to them, and so they will have a higher chance of getting these positions. I don't know if you work, but human bias is present in every industry, regardless of talent or ability. Film and TV is no different, in fact its famous for it, plenty of talented and skilled ppl go nowhere bc connections are everything, opportunities are not open to everyone. So if a certain group has always gotten more access to opportunity, you have to actively do the work in order to get other groups into the industry, to communicate and make opportunities accessible to them. This is the thing ppl always miss, lots of ppl have the skills, not everyone is offered the chance bc a specific, cough cough white ppl, group is given most of those roles. They have the connections, the network and the resources to access opportunities and roles that other ppl won't, and saying "oh the most qualified person should get it" won't happen if creators are not actively making an effort to access nonwhite talent to give them a shot.

I suppose it's a bit lofty to wish the industry would play fair, but I don't believe that a majority of the those working in it are purposefully racist, it's more about just blatant ignorance and upholding the status quo, which can be just as harmful. I agree there will have to be purposeful changes implemented, but it does circle back still to who is a good fit. Should I cast someone just to make sure they get a shot in the industry, even if they don't have the talent or are a good fit for the role? I don't think so. But if they are a good fit, and do have the talent, and so does their white counterpart, I think it wouldn't be entirely remis of me to consider the industry's racial discrimination as a whole, and make the final choice based on that. I know some would disagree with me here, because as soon as ethnicity/gender/sex etc. enters into areas where it shouldn't really have any bearing on the matter, it's a slippery slope. But because of the systemic racism/sexism/etc. that is already in place, those things are relevant whether they should be or not. It's a tough situation, and I'm not sure you and I can solve it here in a RUclips comment thread. I think we all wish we could live in a fairer world, and that gives me some hope, because if the desire for change is there, we may yet see it done.

      I don't know man. Voice actors can actually maintain their voice pretty well through aging. Take a look into Bleach and Bleach TYBW, Ichigo's voice actor Masakazu Morita was 34 when he first began vocing for Bleach, now he's 52 and still voicing Ichigo in TYBW anime and sounds about the same as he did when Bleach was still airing in 2012, and TYBW anime also brough all of the same VA back for other characters even though it's been 10 years since Bleach was last aired, but they still sound the way they used to voice their characters. So aging doesn't actually affect voice actors' voice that much unless we go beyond the threshold of 60. I'm pretty sure Sokka's voice actor can still do Sokka's voice lines with some minor differences due to age (which would have been acceptable).

    For animation, I don't think ethnicity should matter. What should matter is if yiur voice fits the character. With that said, I think they should keep the current cast and only cast new characters or voice actors that have decided not to return like that. So, "Feom here on out we will cast ethnically." Otherwise you are punishing the VA and fans who love their characters, for something you the creator messed up on originally.

    Hey, as someone in the Genji team, but speaking only from myself, I'm going to say this:
    My mental health took one of my biggest hits this year and I have almost entirely lost my passion for drawing as a result; I'm working on to heal myself but it will take long time.
    We have not been approached by Avatar Studios or anything like that.
    This is all I am going to say.

    I'm not going to lie, in season two of Korra I felt like the original story was being disrespected when I saw all the avatars being erased. I saw aang and Roku vanish and then I wanted to turn the show off. But I kind of like the direction that avatar studios is taking by making a movie for aang. It reassures that even if the next avatars can't talk to him, that he's not forgotten. I really hope that avatar bought Genji too.

    I wouldn't say "canon is over" or "canon means nothing." All that is changing is that the comics will no longer be canon and the live-action stuff will be its own adaptation. That's it. Everything else will be canon, unless they plan on creating multiple alternate universes, which I don't think is likely.

    Considering Korra's time was during the time period of the 20s/30s, I wonder if this new Avatar would be more in the 80s or 90s time period.
    I only hope that Korra is allowed to live up to her old age before kicking the bucket.She probably wouldn't live to be as old as Roku was but, it would be cool if she could get near it age-wise.
    An Avatar living a somewhat peaceful life after all she did and went through(and after making spirits and human live together) would be nice.
    This way we also know that she and Asami would've lived together for so long(so there is hope of marriage there too).

      It´s actually a problem that it´s modernizing too quickly, Korra a Steampunk based Avatar Sequel already escalated enough to have the equivalent of nuclear fission energy and teleport portals established with spirit vine energy and spirit portals, so no, what we need to see on the next series is basically how did society adapt to these new things, tecnology created around them and so on.
      Anymore new tecnology like internet, satelites, phones, more advanced cars, etc... would actually be a deterrent as legend of Korra established too many new concepts for tecnology that should take a lot of time being devellopped, heck with Spirit vines making more advanced cars is going to change a lot compared to our world
