    What a great video, good work guys. Very easy to understand and effective to explain just how important and crucial ventilation is. I’m a refrigeration ac mechanic and trying to find the perfect combination while sleeping in a small/mid sized room is difficult. With the basic factors to consider being co2 levels, humidity and air temp it. Basically comes down to either, sleeping with the door open or leaving a window open. Great vid !

    Since CO2 is heavy and tends to go to the lowest point, wouldn't the ideal thing to do would be to either trim the bottom of the door or put a small vent in the door to allow the gas to flow out to a room with larger volume? Because even ventilating the gas is down low where ventilation is up high, I guess the other important factor would be the circulation of air within that space.

      @zaylenpan5825 3 года назад +8

      Actually, due to diffusion and Brownian motion of air molecules. The carbon dioxide don’t really stay low in a room. All the gases tend to mix together and become homogeneous. Circulation of air also help gases mix together. Good thinking tho.

    I found this helpful, because while they didn't TALK about the fact CO2 is heavier than normal air, they did SHOW this at 1:08 or so. That means we can use gravity to a large extent to slowly stream UNDER the bedroom door, along with any colder air, and then much quicker (river) when doors are fully open, say my apartment door into the hallway and down the stairs for 10-15 minutes. Even quicker might be a fan on the floor for 5-minutes. It's winter here now, and gas prices are high everywhere. I've sealed all but one window and the back entrance against cold cold air that's going to cost more $. So I'm going to flush my two rooms of CO2 buildup by opening the main door and a crack the window twice a day, because I'm home so much (semi-retired). I'll get a good CO2 detector when I can afford a good one.

      Good point, you put your understanding of the physics in practice. You implemented a DESIGN SOULTION by creating a system of makeup air provision (one unseal window) , ventilation path (undercut bedroom door) and operational procedure (flushing the room twice a day). All we wanted to convey is the message that the occupants needed to be aware of the problem unless there is already a design solution integrated into house design from the very beginning. The other interesting point that I am still yet to found research result on is that: the behaviour of exhaled air from people. the high moisture level make the air lighter (i.e want to rise) while the higher CO2 level (i.e. heavier) how long does it take to separate the different gases and how will it affect the mixing of the indoor air.

      Agreed. Never the less sleeping with high content co2 is also not good for your health. So a happy medium needs to be implemented.

    Can an ERV system drop the CO2 level close to that of outdoors, e.g. 250-350 ppm? Or do special design considerations need to be made in order to make that happen?

      It’s a good question. But i mean those numbers are pretty low. it can depend if you have a gas cooktop, how many people are breathing in a given period and what setting the HRV is running on. Mind you most HRV systems can slowly ramp up when CO2 rises.
      But there usually isn’t a sensor inside a bedroom.

      So as with most things there are inputs and systems capacities to consider and from some kind of analysis it would be then possible to see how realistic achieving such numbers in certain conditions would be then?

    I don’t find this vid useful. It’s pointing out common problem but without providing real solution. For instance, CO2 level inside bedroom is high and may cause poor quality of sleep. Ok… then how can I increase air circulation? Use a fan? Where should I put a fan and which direction?

      I am going to install vents that have fans. I was planning to put the one up high blowing out to blow out hot air and the lower one in to vent in cold air. But, now I'm second guessing because I know CO2 falls. I don't want to put them the other way because then it will be hotter than Hell in there. So, I'm wondering, will the CO2 levels still drop with h the original plan or am I going to be nice and cool when I pass the hell out and die?
