I think it's a parent instinct sometimes. You hear a baby cry and you instinctively look around to find the child. I've been taught to always get protection then find your people cause you are no good to them if you cant keep them safe, you would only be putting yourself in danger if you went unarmed. But there's been a couple of times where I imagined being in that situation and my heart always wanted me to run to my brother even though I knew that wasn't what I need to do to truly protect him.

I had this great big fear in high school that my school was gonna get shot up and my little sister was gonna get hurt so everyday going to school I would make her recite our plan to get out of the school safe and where we were gonna go. I know that’s strange but at my school we had several threats of shootings and bombs so it was a big fear of mine. She’s a junior now and I still make her recite the plan to get out safe about once a week so that she doesn’t forget

Everyday I imagine what would happen if someone just comes from the door and tries to shoot us. How would I protect my brother? but that night I turn my phone off and turn to see my brother is sleeping soundly. And just behind him about 10 feet distance is our door which was locked but it was grille door and i can see someone standing on the stairs. A shadow outline of a man. I gasp and in split second I think what to do. Should I scream? Should I wake my brother? Should I call my family? Should I just grab my brother and hide in the closet? But then I realise that shadow was actually my dad checking up on us! 😑 Not kidding, after watching spn, I actually keep a small knife in my pocket.
