I always liked cillian Murphy for the role. From peaky blinders. I have no issue with Idris though.
I do think a female James bond is kinda a bad idea though. I thought the last movies did a good job potraying violent masculinity and the misery it causes. And I think toxic or not, that kind of masculinity is kinda at the core of the franchise like it or not.

My casting criteria for James Bond is a cool, suave British actor who who looks great in a suit, can kick ass onscreen in fight scenes, and charm the clothing off women. I don’t give a shit what color the actor is. Idris Elba checks all of those boxes better than any actor currently working that I can think of. I don’t need Bond to be black, I just genuinely believe he’s best for the role. And Bond has already been played by an Australian and an Irishman, so the actor being demographically true to the book character has been out the window for decades anyway.

Sure, maybe you could make that argument if there were talks of casting a black Winston Churchill for example, but in the context of James Bond that makes no sense. And as a British person myself I know that my country has stole so much cultural aspects from our ex-colonies. A lot of which are seen as uniquely British and not associated at all with their original origins. It would be utterly hypocritical for anyone here to complain that someone’s stealing our “cultural identity.”

We’re not talking about ten to fifteen minutes of Change My Mind here, having someone on the show takes a lot of planning and half an hour or more for the actual discussion. Sam Seder has a fraction of his viewership and a reputation for being dishonest and disingenuous. He probably thought Seder wasn’t worth his time, and Seder only lived up to his reputation with that stunt.
As for only taking arguments he knows he can win, Crowder sure didn’t hesitate to take on (and humiliate) that Rolling Stone writer the other day. That wasn’t some random college kid or something Crowder planned, he came to Crowder. He also brings people on the show with opposing viewpoints all the time.

I first became aware of Idris Elba in early 2000s watching him on The Wire as Stringer Bell. He is an absolutely amazing actor, and certainly has what it takes to play James Bond, and more, as he has proven many times over. Not sure who said "WE NEED" a black James Bond crowder, but he would be a great James Bond, objectively speaking.... who fucking cares if he is black, like seriously... fuckin slow news day crowder?

@@dylanschmeichel2008 My problem with it as an actual black guy who lives in England is that..it’s a terrible idea. James Bond, in my mind, is a representation of white English upper class stereotypes. I am fine with that, I think representation matters for everyone including ethnic majorities. Instead of race-bending an established character why not just invest in more movies starring black people as lead actors? It seems to me that the message being sent out is that black people can only succeed when we are included in something that’s originally white. I don’t like that message, personally, and I can see why you a white guy, probably, don’t have a problem with it because you don’t care about the message being sent out.
Also, it doesn’t really make sense to have a black James Bond given the actual ethnic makeup of England. South East Asians far outnumber people of African descent by a large margin. I think about 5% of the population of England are Asians while only like 1-1.5% of the population African. If James Bond is to be a minority then why doesn’t it seem that the biggest minority group aren’t in the conversation? Because it’s not about being genuine, it’s about further stigmatising black people as dependent and pissing people off at the same time.
I hope James Bond isn’t a black guy, I truly do. If it has to be a minority, for whatever reason, then it should be an Asian guy first.

You know there is a reason that, in the lore, they usually give only numbers or letters to their agents/handlers (even though some may be known throughout the organization as they racked up quite the fame). It is because they are not tied to persons directly, but the individuals who can carry out those skills (maybe with a few exceptions here and there).

The problem with Crowder is that he's comparing US cinema to UK cinema. There are many black British actors who aren't that represented in British film as much as they could be. I like to think about both perspectives in this situation because I can understand both, I can see why he thinks idris being the new James Bond is just woke garbage, that basically what all of Hollywood is now, James Bond has always been white so it’s understandable for someone to get upset when they change that, not because they hate black people but because it wouldn’t feel like James Bond, it wouldn’t be that hard to create a new character set in the same universe but yet they don’t do that, it’s very easy to see this as pandering and honestly as I’m typing I’m starting to agree with crowder, there’s no reason why they couldn’t just make a new character, you can see this in lots of movies, marvel especially, they have a tendency to race swap/gender swap characters when they bring them to the big screen and the problem with this is they are established, loved, and cherished characters by millions, so when you change such big parts of those characters it no longer feels like those characters, I’ll never see idris as James Bond, I’d probably just see him as someone who’s takin up the mantle of James Bond, because James Bond is a white English man, let me put this into words that no one can see as racist, let’s say they rebooted the simpsons, but instead of them being yellow, they are white now, would it still feel like the simpsons? No because the simpsons are yellow not white, on the other hand I can see why Ethan and whoever the other guy is think this is just racist, and it’s simply because they don’t care about the character, they aren’t James Bond super fans, probably haven’t seen a James Bond movie in years, (neither have I but that’s not the point) they don’t care about this because they aren’t invested in it, let’s dramatically change an established TV/Movie series that Ethan is invested in and then see what their Reaction is
EDIT: I heard James Bond dies in his new film if this is true then him getting replaced by idris seems less problematic as I though they were just outright re casting him but if this is a new a James Bond then and they don’t call him James Bond becuase how would that make sense then I’m completely fine with this, bonds been around for over a decade I think it’s ok to respectfully change things up, had they have just recast bond as a completely different race then that’s not really respectful towards the character, but giving him a proper send off works in my opinion, obviously people will still be upset to see him leave, as they would be if a loved one died, so I see it as the same reaction
Tbh there aren’t many black people in Siberia the most non-white people you be Turkic or Mongol BUT the U.K. is a multicultural society with lots of black people, smaller than the USA but still like 4% which is significant. I’m a conservative and I think idris Elba would be a great bond. I’m fine when it fits but if your just putting an actor of colour in there for no reason other than because there a person of colour without them fitting the part then I’m against it.

Well said. But they aren’t just hurting the youth with this narrative. My left leaning brother is 45 years old and actually said recently that he thinks it’s great there are so many people of color on tv now(which it is) because they weren’t “allowed” on tv when he was younger. His favorite show used to be fresh prince.... He was visibly angry when talking about how they weren’t allowed on but when I pointed out to him that he was wrong he just went “oh ya lol” and refused to talk about it anymore. This scares me.
