I tend not to play vampires or “evil” characters but still I’m impressed with the creativity of this build. As always, I loved the lore and backstory. Your use of the guard helmet in conjunction with the vampire royal armor gives the character an intimidating and even menacing presence. Likewise, the Bloodskal Blade completes the aesthetic. The combination of shouts and spells you've chosen fit this character perfectly. I love the nod to Darth Vader with the theme for this character.

Honestly, you can play a "good" Vampire. My favorite character I've made was Marius, a nede who was turned while on a hunt with his father. He ended up killing his mother and sister in a blind thirst, and fled from his home disgusted with what he was. He traveled for thousands of years, trying to make something of the unnatural life he had, and he did so by trying to guide the people of Tamriel to a better future. He guided kings and rebels, soldiers and wizards. He eventually came to Skyrim and discovered a prophecy that, to his surprise, was not pointing to anyone but him. He had found, perhaps, the reason his life was extended so. He discovered the Dragonborn prophecy.
I've just noticed than the Volkihar Knight backstory is cleary heavily inspired by the jarl Balgruuf familly in Skyrim. He have tree childrens, all from differents mothers. The older is a young warrior and the youngest, Nelkir, is creepy and silenced like the Knight. It reminds me there is a cut quest in Skyrim where the Dragonborn should return Balgruuf kid's against him to make them kill their father.
Great build 👍 I especially like how you mentioned who the character is personality wise as not all build channels do that, makes roleplaying a lot more fun when u know who your character is lol
This is my 2nd build from you guys. Already have a Sunfire Herald build going, but will take a break from that build for a while to get my Volkihar Knight going. It's fun switching it up. You guys literally make Skyrim fun again for me. Will support all I can!
Really liked that frenzy rune and throw voice combo, really does give the vibe of a vampire lord playing with mere mortals, also the cool interation between the blades beam and become etherial.
I truly think you guys have the best Skyrim builds out there now, and this one is no exception! These builds are so well thought out with their roleplaying, special moves, and playstyle. I find myself anxiously awaiting each Friday now, extremely excited to see the next build! I kept thinking about what the next build would be last night, and when I woke up I immediately came to check it out! Amazing work, and keep it up! After putting Skyrim down for a month or two I finally returned and wanted to give this build another go. Although I wanted an Orc playthrough so I decided to mix things up. My version of the Volkihar Knight was a member of The Daedric Warchief clan, an Orc Hunter. Although the illness did nearly take his life it was a vampire that got him first. So after catching Vampirism he returned to his tribe only to see everyone dead and he knew Malacath turned his back on them. The vampire who turned him was a member of the Volkihar Court so he went to Skyrim in the search for them. We all know what happen from there and start the world of Skyrim! He learn the more magical skills and speech skills from the other vampires in the court, quickly learning and becoming a threat to the others. While once the major court figures sought to use the Orc Volkihar Knight, it quickly became apparently he larned far too quickly, and was far too dangerous with a sword.
There’s a glitch that allows you to use vampiric grip (basically telekinesis on living targets) in human form, it really suits the force sith thing they’ve got going
I’ve never played a Vampire in Skyrim...honestly I’ve never played anything but “good” characters. Even my their PCs were, at worst, chaotic neutral. This build inspired me to start my first evil character, and my first vampire. It’s breathed new life into the game for me, and that’s pretty awesome, in itself! Keep up the great work, y’all!
We normally have played "good" characters as well! It's been a challenge for us to make edgier / more sinister characters, but it's definitely been fun. Hope you enjoy the playthrough, man!
So side story idea, the Volkihar Knight after taking into consideration that their could be a day he would be slain makes preparations in insuring his name is carried on if he were to ever perish, so he goes on the search for an ideal spouse and ideal children but are simply his property to do with as he needs turning his spouse into a vampire as a “gift” but in reality is just another way to keep them oppressed under his control and protection. Pretty much becomes Tywin Lannister
I found that a lot of the Volkihar clan traits are similar to that of Clan Tzimisce from Vampire the Masquerade, so what I like to do is use illusion (same as how one might use Dominate), Restoration for the necromage perk (which can serve as vicissitude) and shouts like aura whisper and animal allegiance for auspex and animalism. I figure the Lord form takes care of Protean
I feel like going for the Ebony Blade early on would be good role play. Unless there's an RP excuse to go to Solstheim early the Ebony Blade is a good weapon to pick up early on and use until you go there and find the Bloodskall Blade, plus its a Daedric artefact, which you collect for RP reasons.
This reminds me of my never published Viscount build. Aside from the higher emphasis on stealth (and 1H for the high sneak attack damage), the main difference between them is in the role-playing. Where the Volkihar Knight arrogantly seeks domination and control, the Viscount has survived for thousands of years by staying in the lower upper class of society. (As his build title suggests, he usually serves as a viscount, or thane in Skyrim, to ambitious mortals.)
This is, yet again, another great build. I’ve recently started using the “sacrosanct”mod. Very fun mod! This build will go nicely with my play through.

I like to imagine that one day, within Skyrim, The Dawn Knight and The Volkihar Knight will meet, and when that happens, the sun itself will tremble at their battle, a battle of blood and brightness, a battle of undead and undying, and as the sun sets, Fort Dawnguard reigns supreme over the land (I tend to side with the dawnguard in all my playthroughs) Only the light of dawn may blot out the darkest night.
Is that what you think, you frail, cowardly hunter? When the sun sets forever on Tamriel and darkness consumes the land like a ravaging plague, we, the children of Coldharbour will rule over mankind.
Nightingale strife would be a really good power for this build... Really any vampire build, but this one in particular since it's a character that emits the feeling of being powerful.
Hmm, I wonder if the Volkihar Knight, Mystic Knight, and Dawn Knight will ever meet? I imagine the Eldest Brother would be horrified and swear to end the abomination of his Baby Brother's existence, while the Middle Brother would be more interested in the Volkihar's unsavory use of illusion to manipulate the masses. I could see the Mystic Knight investigating arcane crimes that ultimately lead to the Volkihar's web of influence, while the Dawn Knight independantly tracks the rising vampire activities, both unwittingly drawing closer to a "family reunion" ultimately orchestrated by their vampiric little brother who wishes to prove that it was he, not his elder brothers, who took up their father's mantle. Muhahahaha
was thinking of this after seeing the mystic knight. it would be cool if it was kind of a groudon kyogre and rayquaza situation where the volkihar and dawn knights were to clash and the mystic knight would step in between them. the mystic knight is also the only one to wear heavy armor and his abilities revolve around redirecting magic back making him a perfect bulwark to stand between his two brothers.
Finally get to try that awesome build. My most favourite one so far. I personally would go with speech skills, only the ones on the right side. I would use intimidate a lot, role playing this as some dark Jedi Mind Trick (like the one Obi-Wan uses.) So instead of pursuate always try to intimidate. And, after the Anniversary Edition dropped, I think using choking Gasp as a way to heal Yourself up would be a really dark and cool idea. Even though it's already used in the shroud of cold-harbour, I'd like to imagine, that the Shroud teached this spell to the Volkihar Knight.

I absolutely love THIS! I agree with ya'll, I love to play Skyrim without mods! I always have more fun that way, I can't explain why though, I just do! I usually play a Vampire Mage type but never have I thought about using the Bloodskal Blade in my build! Ya'll always do a great job with these videos! @@Skypothesis you guys legit make such great content. Inspired me to do my own unique skyrim build. Two handed no armour, take use from enchanting, alchemy, destruction, and alteration. Special move is a combo of a fortify two handed and destruction to give extra oomph to my weapon (I think the fortify destruction buffs enchants something to think about!) And its playable on legendary with conjuration!
Forgive me, Skypothesis, for I have sinned. First, instead of breton, I made the Volk Knight a high elf. It felt wrong to play a Vader-like character that's of medium height. Second, I took some leveling in destruction for lightning magic. I thought it wouldn't hurt to have ranged attacks other than the Bloodskal, especially against dragons, and lightning seemed fitting for a sith character. Yes, I'm aware Vader rarely used lighting because Palpatine made his life-support suit vulnerable to electricity
Incredibly late, but I would just like to recommend what I did with this awesome build and the surprising eureka moment I got from it! I added Destruction spells, particularly Shock spells to combine a Palpatine-esque character with Darth Vader for a full Sith build. I play with the Sacrilege mod and that makes my Vampire Lord form even more powerful. I then played the build as intended, looking for the Bloodskal Blade, and to my SHOCK (pun intended), the mask of Zahkriisos not only LOOKS just as good as the Solitude Guard's Helmet, but ALSO makes my Shock spells even more powerful!
Probably Skypothesis' coolest looking character! Which mods are you using to have the weapon equipped on your back while casting spells? As far as I know that's not in the vanilla game.

What is the Volkihar Knight's position on the Civil War? I ask this because you can't be thane of Windhelm unless you choose a side in the Cilvil War questline.
doing this build as a female version but i decided to go along with the dark brotherhood quest as a another form of control but also to use the dark brotherhood prisoners as my own "vampire cattle"
No idea if you still check this video comments but I really want to use this build but I also love sneaking, should I just put a few points into stealth for the dagger damage multiplier, and the rest of the points into the two handed weapon?
A few random questions, since I’m starting him soon. One, Hadvar or Ralof? Who does he escape with? (I initially think Ralof since he’s been on the run most of his life) Two, would it be in character for him to marry someone? I’m thinking Uthgerd the Unbroken since she’s not only one of the strongest followers you could marry, but you can actually turn her into a vampire. And three, what level do you recommend I go grab the Bloodskaal Blade?
Good Qs!! Agreed that he'd most likely trust Ralof right off the bat. We think that he would totally marry someone! It would definitely need to be someone who you could turn into a vampire though like you said. Honestly, (as far as we know) the weapon doesn't scale to your level when obtaining it, so get it as early as possible. It's just tied to your arcane blacksmith perk / smithing skill for damage. In my mind, I could also see him coming to respect Ulfric in some sense, though that wouldn’t stop him from manipulating him. (Imagine him using the Stormcloaks as his pawns to overthrow Skyrim. And eventually war with the Thalmor) Sweet. And it’s actually a pretty small list who you can and can’t turn. Sadly, Janessa is not one you can turn. But hey, Uthgerd you can in fact turn, so I’ll marry her. I actually checked in the time between this. Apparently it improves after level 50, but not by that much. And no problem. Love this stuff so much.

Also, I am planning to play him last 40. Might invest a bit into Destruction for a certain set of spells. (Take one guess which kind, given the inspiration) And for the record, it’s almost a shame the Dark Brotherhood must be destroyed. Shadowmere would be a worthy mount for this vampire lord. Ah, well. Ok but hear me out, what about a palpatine inspired build, someone who is innocent on the surface playing the political game but in the background he pulls the strings of the guilds and uses his natural affinity to shock spells to exert his will. Noone around him knows who he is, his true power. Until he gains the trust of all the holds and in one swoop, takes out the stormcloaks and then kill the emperor.
Love the build tho I'm gonna change 1 thing and add another Dark Brotherhood Shrouded hood instead of the helmet (I don't like the look of it personally) And I'm gonna use some Blood Magic via a mod lol I just love the idea of blasting out blood red hp sucking energy at my foes haha

That was a mistake unfortunately. One of a couple things we would change about this build if we were to re-do it. Another thing would be to put those enchanting perks into light armor. Past level 40 you can work on enchanting your own gear for longer playthroughs

And, after the Anniversary Edition dropped, I think using choking Gasp as a way to heal Yourself up would be a really dark and cool idea. Even though it's already used in the shroud of cold-harbour, I'd like to imagine, that the Shroud teached this spell to the Volkihar Knight.

I absolutely love THIS! I agree with ya'll, I love to play Skyrim without mods! I always have more fun that way, I can't explain why though, I just do! I usually play a Vampire Mage type but never have I thought about using the Bloodskal Blade in my build! Ya'll always do a great job with these videos! @@Skypothesis you guys legit make such great content. Inspired me to do my own unique skyrim build. Two handed no armour, take use from enchanting, alchemy, destruction, and alteration. Special move is a combo of a fortify two handed and destruction to give extra oomph to my weapon (I think the fortify destruction buffs enchants something to think about!) And its playable on legendary with conjuration!
Forgive me, Skypothesis, for I have sinned.
First, instead of breton, I made the Volk Knight a high elf. It felt wrong to play a Vader-like character that's of medium height.
Second, I took some leveling in destruction for lightning magic. I thought it wouldn't hurt to have ranged attacks other than the Bloodskal, especially against dragons, and lightning seemed fitting for a sith character.
Yes, I'm aware Vader rarely used lighting because Palpatine made his life-support suit vulnerable to electricity

Incredibly late, but I would just like to recommend what I did with this awesome build and the surprising eureka moment I got from it! I added Destruction spells, particularly Shock spells to combine a Palpatine-esque character with Darth Vader for a full Sith build. I play with the Sacrilege mod and that makes my Vampire Lord form even more powerful. I then played the build as intended, looking for the Bloodskal Blade, and to my SHOCK (pun intended), the mask of Zahkriisos not only LOOKS just as good as the Solitude Guard's Helmet, but ALSO makes my Shock spells even more powerful!

Which mods are you using to have the weapon equipped on your back while casting spells? As far as I know that's not in the vanilla game.

doing this build as a female version but i decided to go along with the dark brotherhood quest as a another form of control but also to use the dark brotherhood prisoners as my own "vampire cattle"

About the enchantments, you can’t put fire resist on an helmet
Yeah that's a mess-up. If I were to re-do this I'd ditch enchanting by level 40 entirely, and put those extra perks in light armor.
A few random questions, since I’m starting him soon.
One, Hadvar or Ralof? Who does he escape with? (I initially think Ralof since he’s been on the run most of his life)
Two, would it be in character for him to marry someone? I’m thinking Uthgerd the Unbroken since she’s not only one of the strongest followers you could marry, but you can actually turn her into a vampire.
And three, what level do you recommend I go grab the Bloodskaal Blade?

Agreed that he'd most likely trust Ralof right off the bat.
We think that he would totally marry someone! It would definitely need to be someone who you could turn into a vampire though like you said.
Honestly, (as far as we know) the weapon doesn't scale to your level when obtaining it, so get it as early as possible. It's just tied to your arcane blacksmith perk / smithing skill for damage.

In my mind, I could also see him coming to respect Ulfric in some sense, though that wouldn’t stop him from manipulating him. (Imagine him using the Stormcloaks as his pawns to overthrow Skyrim. And eventually war with the Thalmor)
Sweet. And it’s actually a pretty small list who you can and can’t turn. Sadly, Janessa is not one you can turn. But hey, Uthgerd you can in fact turn, so I’ll marry her.
I actually checked in the time between this. Apparently it improves after level 50, but not by that much.

Ok but hear me out, what about a palpatine inspired build, someone who is innocent on the surface playing the political game but in the background he pulls the strings of the guilds and uses his natural affinity to shock spells to exert his will. Noone around him knows who he is, his true power. Until he gains the trust of all the holds and in one swoop, takes out the stormcloaks and then kill the emperor.

That was a mistake unfortunately. One of a couple things we would change about this build if we were to re-do it. Another thing would be to put those enchanting perks into light armor. Past level 40 you can work on enchanting your own gear for longer playthroughs
Yup, I did the same thing. Light armor perks are helpful. "Blink" is also an absolute game changer. Very well done.
