  • I had seen some chatter online about passive boosts. My gut instinct tells me there's no way that can work but thanks to ‪@WaylonMcPhersonGuitar‬ , I realized it is possible and it sounds pretty darn good. I'm really happy with the way the pedal came out.

    I’m definitely going to try this. I hate thinking about power supplies haha

      Yeah, it's one less power supply for your board. 😆 Thanks for checking it out.

    Way to geek out on this! This is one of the reasons why your channel is growing. You go down the rabbit holes most won't and come out with a good video and something that works. Keep it up!

      Thanks man. I appreciate it. Sometimes I just need to build/modify something to prove it's doable. I love to share these kinds of revelations.

      Howdy from Morganton North Carolina I'm 21 me and my grandpa modified my Fab Danelectro echo delay pedal into a passive pedal and we took the guts of the pedal and wired it up inside my tube amp that also has a RCA 12AU7 tube in the preamp I play country rockabilly and blues and Bluegrass I use my own set of Thomastik flatwound strings 12/50

    I watched this earlier but a phone call came as I was commenting. That was really cool and you truly make everything so easy but I’m telling ya I know it isn’t that easy. You should literally make kits for people !! Wow and it sounded so good !

      This was one of those things that was surprising to me. Knowing what I know... I wouldn't have thought this would've worked... but it does... and well. Who knew? Thanks for watching.

    When you move back into the studio, why not do a video one setting up the studio?

    That's a cool proof of concept but I don't think it's very useful when you need another powered pedal to make it work. Next you should try to build one of the passive overdrives based on the black ice onboard overdrive. Also, there's an entire line of passive pedals from Cave passive pedals that no one seems to have recreated. They're meant for bass and work without any buffered pedals in the chain but work much better when there are buffered pedals. Looking for information on their passive ring modulator pedal is actually how I first found you channel since your synthrotek passive ring modulator video is the second result for videos of it.

      I have never heard of those circuits. I'll look into them. Thanks for the suggestion and for checking it out.

    theoretically could you wire a pedal passively to reduce the signal and use the reduced signal as your unboosted tone?

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  4 месяца назад

      I guess you could do that, but if that's what you wanted, why not just use the volume knob on the guitar? Or a volume pedal? Thanks for stopping by.

    Fuzzdog have a kit called a 'Buffered Pickup Sim' that requires power and does seemingly the same thing. There is a mob who make this exact circuit and sell it for like $200US !!

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  День назад

      @@ShlomirBareket I'm not sure. I've not measured it. It's not a massive amount but it's a lot more than I expected from a passive circuit.

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  3 месяца назад +1

      @@RosalvoParadella If you were going to install it inside the guitar, you'd probably want an active guitar. The preamp acts as a buffer. The passive nature of piezo or magnetic pickups would not work alone.

      @@musicalmiscellany ok amigo. É por que eu instalei um captador humbucker no meu violão acústico. Quero combinar o som elétrico com o do captador piezo que já tem no violão. Mas o piezo fica com o som um pouco mais baixo do que o do humbucker. Achei que se instalasse um mini transformador desses, pudesse dar um boost no som do piezo. Cada captador tem um Knob de volume, pra que eu possa mixá-los. De qualquer forma tentarei fazer o teste mais tarde. Obrigado pela atenção. Abraço.
