I interpret this as Shinobu having an obvious identity crisis, after all, She has been pretending to be someone she isn't for years behind a facade, whilst continuously trying to contain her rage which would make literally anyone go insane or have an identity crisis. I interpret her "past self" saying "Who are you?--" basically her wondering why she has changed so much (Clearly.) Another thing, In my belief, The reason why what reflects in the mirror isn't her present self but instead rather her past self, is because she on the inside, isn't as mature as she lets out on the exterior, and utmost, probably still views herself as a child. I mean after all When she was 14 years old, a clear minor, She'd already been taking care of Naho, Kiyo, Sumi, Aoi, and Kanao on her own after Kanae's passing, Making her literally have no childhood. in the beginning of her life too, her parents were slaughtered by demons, losing everything before she even was an adult. Obviously, she deep down, is still a child mentally and emotionally. At 0:03 - You can clearly see the confusion, fright, and perhaps even disgust in younger Shinobu's facial expression, The way her eyes are wide and the way she is gritting her teeth shows how shocked she is, In a "What have I become? Douma inside is nothing but an empty shell that holds a facade, him being quite literally emotionless. Shinobu actually hiding severe hatred and anger, Like Douma, only hiding it behind a Facade, as she is in a near-constant continuous state of utmost overwhelming anger. 0:16 "Now from my Chrysalis, I'll become a Butterfly." Chrysalis; Definition is "a quiescent insect pupa." Pupa means an Insect that is in its inactive, immature form. "Now from my Chrysalis" Could mean how Shinobu before, had a rather uncomplicated, blunt, and brash personality. "I'll become a Butterfly." -- Butterflies are symbolic across Cultures and Beliefs, known for "Change, personal transformation" etc. So, It could mean Shinobu changing and becoming her current self, the one that supposedly grew an optimistic attitude and mannerisms. Chrysalis; The Definition could also mean the hard outer case enclosing a chrysalis; a moth or butterfly at the stage of growth when it is turning into an adult and is enclosed in a hard case. This means that it could also represent; How Shinobu "Locked up" / hid her anger, internally holding in her immense hatred as she grew older. 0:18 "I'll show off everything as it is." -- It could represent how Shinobu finally let out her pent-up anger once she met Douma, no longer hiding it behind a facade as she finally showed what she feels / who she is. NOTE: That's all I could cover in this video, There might be more, however, this is as much as I found. I will maybe come back if I find anything else. I only finished it now as I got irritated that I accidentally deleted half of my rant, but, I came back as soon as I saw this video again. Anyway, This video is very well done! I could see that it took lots of effort to do this. I was hoping to do this too, but, unfortunately, don't have the motivation or skills to do so, I'm grateful someone did a video of Shinobu with this song! -- as I also love this song and how much it matches Shinobu. I'm so thankful someone actually covered what Shinobu has endured, Most videos I see only concentrate on Giyuu. No hate to him, but, him being the center of attention leaves no spots for other characters to shine. No piece art work or animation has ever made me feel this type of way it's insane. It doesnt fit her... This song is about a girl named Mene. Mene is unhappy with her average grades. When Mene sees her classmate Miya get perfect grades seemingly without trying, she thinks that this type of perfection is abnormal and tries to become more like her. Mene tries to act more like Miya and tries even harder to become "Abnormal", and gets to the point of envy where she falls in love Miya, realizing it during the dream sequence. It doesnt fit her... This song is about a girl named Mene. Mene is unhappy with her average grades. When Mene sees her classmate Miya get perfect grades seemingly without trying, she thinks that this type of perfection is abnormal and tries to become more like her. Mene tries to act more like Miya and tries even harder to become "Abnormal", and gets to the point of envy where she falls in love Miya, realizing it during the dream sequence. But then Mene realizes that she'll never be with/like Miya. Mene finally snaps, and becomes a butterfly, a metaphor in the song for committing suicide. Her death is reflected earlier on in the PV where a vase of flowers is sitting on her desk, a common tradition in Japan when a student has passed away.
