Yes, considering that he still can't stand on the tip of his feet, it's impresssive. If we couldn't stand on the tip of our feet, we would walk like him.
He walks like most people who have just worked a double shift at the factory. Now all you have to do is add a voice that says, "dude, where's my car", and Tesla will truly have their humanoid robot.
Yes, but what’s more impressive is that the cameras for the bot are turned off for this example. So to mimic a tired factory worker while blind is super impressive.
Yeah mate, we're definitely on the vertical side of exponential growth now, anyone that can't see it has their eyes closed.. The advancements this year are staggering, and it is still 2024.. who knows what we'll see in the next 3 weeks..lol 😃👍
Considering that fact that they’ve only been working on this for a few years, instead of over two decades like Boston Dynamics, the speed of progress is truly incredible.

Atlas was able to do what Optimus is doing in this video over a decade ago. They aren’t “advancing” at all. This is just Elon Musks latest money incinerating extravaganza. All Optimus is is a shiny set of keys that Elon can jingle in front of investors so they empty their wallets for him.
And in a month, it’ll be even better, and the month after that, and the month after that…… then suddenly it will be like a pro athlete, and the world will be like what the hell.

@@popthiccle1158 That's what makes this humanoid concept stand out from others. Tesla is already considering large-scale production. Elon. Leads in space exploration. Creates the neuro link Creates a robot that better functionally and cheaper than Boston dynamics. The dude is making Science fiction reality.
Impressive, but I think EngineAI's SE01 that walks with a human gate looks more natural. I can't wait to see EngineAI test their SE01 on rough terrain.
Just so everyone knows, this robot is walking BLIND! No on board vision which means no ability to plan its next move. It’s walking strictly by other sensory mechanisms. This is insane
Walks like a blind person in the woods. Impressive! But I can't wait for a generation that's actually understanding the terrain as well as a human trail runner does.
What makes this more impressive is Tesla has not yet implemented video awareness of Optimus surroundings. Optimus is essentially walking blind folded and not using Tesla vision yet. Tesla engineers have stated Tesla vision will provide awareness for uneven terrain so Optimus will walk better in the near future.
It is impressive considering the cost of the robot design and their potential to integrate FSD backbone. I wonder though if Boston Dynamics' new Atlus 2 is of comparable cost since it also uses brushless DC motors and was designed to have portable batteries integrated.
You have to understand the reason why for decades they always put robots on wheels is because the hardest thing for a robot to mimic human actions is simply walking on uneven terrain. Gravel, dirt, sand incline, decline humans do this without thinking
Considering also the fitness for self replication, self repair, self sustaining and resource usage, this is an excellent comparison of human intelligence and nature’s intelligence
I wonder what sort of commands it is given. Just told to walk, or is there someone helping it along remotely? Perhaps just controlling speed and direction?
How long does the battery last ? 10 minutes ? Or even 20 ? The KI, the actors and sensor cosume A LOT of power ! Can optimus lift things (heavy) things and walk just as well ?
Empty hype as usual (chronic failures will not be shown). There won't be a reliable bipedal locomotion without an advanced brain. Current AI is insect level. If they want to achieve reliable locomotion with insect level intelligence they should use 6 limbs at least, like the nature did.
While it's counter intuitive, the Optimus team greatly reduced the operating frequency of the bot. This is the main reason for enabling it to act more like a human. The details will come out shortly I'm sure.
