Thanks for stopping by, Dan! The story of "File & Wire" and use of ATS-34 steel drew me to these collections from S&M. I like the high polish on the blades and bolsters too.
Did ya hear? Keith Daniels ( he partnered with Bill Howard to start GEC ) just bought Queen Cutlery late last year. The buzz going around is they're gonna see to it that Queen will get that quality back to where it should be. I just bought the last 1 of 19 genuine Winterbottom bone "Queen Classic First Run" Trapper. It's a debut run by the Daniels family w/Queen. Very sweet knife!!! Now that they've come full circle with who owns who, the future of these Pennsylvania companies is lookin' good.
Is it Ken & not Keith? My bad. That's cool you met him. I read a lot about all the knife makers in NY & PA from the 1800's to the present. Daniels was the "business mind" of the partnership with Bill Howard when they started GEC. The Daniels family & knife production goes back 5 generations I think. I sure am glad that they bought Queen, instead of some big corporation that makes bowling balls or rubber duckies, ya know? L.O.L. Our beloved knives are in good hands. Been goin' nuts buying these.
Thanks for the feedback on GEC. I've seen other videos on their knives and have considered getting some of their models for my collection. Canal Street's stuff looks really good but I've hesitated because of my perception of high cost for what you get. I may have to re-look their line. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Nice knives. Those Schatt's are from the time when Bill Howard (from Great Eastern Cutlery) was working for Queen. They were producing some top notch knives. Unfortunately in my opinion, Queen has really dropped in quality the last few years. Right now, Imo, GEC is producing the best slipjoints. Canal Street has also produced stepped it up this past year in fit and finish. Thanks for the video.
I did hear that Ken Daniels has taking over Queen. I think he will turn things around over there. I had the chance to meet him at the 2010 Blade show. He seemed like a quality guy. I'm looking forward to checking out some of Queen's current knives. Thanks for watching.
Although you might like the sound of a closing "snap" it is poor manners to let any knife blade fully close by the spring alone. You SHOULD control the closing with thumb and finger until the blade is seated. If at a knife show and you handle a dealers knives and let them snap shut he might just tell you to get away from his table and don't come back.

Very sweet knives. I own some as well. Just ordered 5 more in which 2 are Schatts & 2 are Tidioute & 1 Northfield. Great video.
That S&M knife sure is something else! ;) Very cool, Chris - thank you for sharing.

Thanks for watching and commenting! It's nice to have some options in not just patterns but also more makers now with the traditional models.
