Thank you for this! I’ve always felt like I “should” be a morning person but I am truly not. I also need silence for the first couple hours and there is nothing humorous to me that early either. I’m so glad to hear I’m not the only one.

Hi Laura. Like you, I'm not a morning person. I carve time to stare out of the window at the trees while I'm having my coffee, which also serves as my prayer time. Only after that do I venture into the world, as beforehand I would be very scary!!! All the best from Canada.

My mornings, after feeding the cat and turning on my brother's coffeepot, AND my evening routines, for me is the mental stuff I need to do. Updating my to-do & shopping lists, filling out urgent paperwork, balancing my checkbook, etc. My heart just isn't strong enough to go straight from the warm comfort of my bed into exercising .. I truly believe it would trigger a heart attack 😂
I don't sleep well at night as it is, if I feel the need for a few more minutes in the morning to transition to daytime, then so be it.
I would love to be the go-getter type of person who goes to sleep at 9 p.m. and bounces out of bed at 5 a.m. ready to take on the world, but at age 72 I really am best at sleep by 11:30 and S L O W L Y crawling out at 6:30 a.m.
Decades of working swingshifts & running with my families schedules pretty much ruined my own circadian rhythm so I no longer beat myself up over not meeting the world's standards of routines.

I get up at 6:45 am, then take my granddaughter to school. When I get back, I usually go back to bed. We have 3 generations in this house, so go back to and wait for everyone to get done in the bathroom and leave for college or work. Then I get up get my bath, and do what I feel like doing. I am 71 and have mobility issues. I am happy to get like my bathroom clean and work on my room.

You’re wise to switch to what works for you personally. I happen to be more productive in the mornings, but don’t count on me to get much done late at night!

Same experience with early morning.!!! I used to have to get up early for work, did the minimum to get in the car and go, but almost felt sick or drunk if trying to do more or talk to people intelligently. Thanks, and we’re with you.

Not a morning person. I don’t have a morning routine but I do the same things every morning and mostly in the same order so I guess that is a morning routine

Laura, I have felt the same way about having a morning routine! I have never been a morning person, but felt like I should be doing all these tasks to have the productive day.

I have medical stuff that needs to be done in morning. If I could I would do it in the afternoon.😢

Not a morning person either. My husband is and I make him crazy that I cant just jump out of bed the minute my eyes are open. I'm fortunate right now I dont work outside the home so I can wake up naturally. I struggled for several years with sleep problems - menopause and situational issues. Now that is better so I'm not messing it up by going back to an alarm or trying to do a "5 am routine". When I was younger I could barely handle talking to anyone before Noon!! Great book to read on circadian rhythm is The Power of When by Dr Michael Breus.Great podcast for women's hormonal issues (includes sleep issues) is Dr Mariza Snyder "Energized". Great video - we night owls have to stick together!!

Laura, IN college I hor up at 3:15 a.m. to go to work & then for 17 yrs I got up at 4 a.m. to ho to work. I hate mornings. 😅 Due to 2 back surgeries, I no longer work & so I get up when I wake up. I do like to start my day with devotions. I really don't have a set schedule, so I just do what I'm physically able to do that day. 😊

Freat video!! Thank you, it is good to know that I am not the only 1 that struggles with human interaction when I wake up.

My morning is when I am able to get up out of bed so even if it is 3pm I do my routine then. Honesty it is not a lot. I start my Keurig for coffee or get glass of water, empty the dishwasher, have coffee, wash and brush teeth, straighten up bathroom and some days swish and swipe sink, counter, mirror and toilet bowl in 2 bathrooms. Not a lot of time to do everything.

Hi Laura, thanks for sharing in the video!🤗 I'm also not an "early bird", but I have to get up early in the morning (6:15) to take the children to school (around 7am). I envy you that your husband does this job.🤩 Since I am more "dead" than "alive" and I absolutely could not perceive Bible study early in the morning, I reserve my moment with God as soon as I drop off the children and come home around 8:30). It is an amazing time and I have a much better sense of what the Bible wants to tell me that day. Especially now in spring, when our trees are green and everything is blooming, the view from the window and reading are great!...😍 As for housework, I work best from 3 p.m., I'm not able to do so much before that. I'm just an owl - I've tried forcing myself to get up early too, but I agree that it just doesn't work for everyone!😝 I wish you a nice week!😆 S.

I just told my sister that I give up getting up that early in the morning. It just does not work with my circadian rhythm nor my brain chemistry no matter how much I want it to. I still get stuck in the fixed thinking that I need to do a certain set of things every morning to get it off to a good start. When I don't get to do all of those things I feel terribly out of whack, and that is counterproductive.

Laura, I cannot tell you how much I needed to hear this! I struggled for years as well in trying to set ip my mornings for success only to fight with myself EVERY day! It has been a long while now, that I go to sleep between 11 and midnight and get up around 8am. I usually check things on my phone just to get myself to wake up, but that has been a time sucker, so I am thinking about changing that up to something that really excites me, like writing or working on my website. I have done this before, but I am ready now to make it more of a thing. Especially if I can be up around 7am.
My best morning routine is to prep the night before. Set out clothes, set out personal hygeine, shoes, purse, bags, lunch, vitamins, etc. Then the morning goes super easy and I am ready to talk to people when I am done!
