I think this is the best pre-game video of the Stadium I have ever seen! Thanks for posting skif. Love all your videos. the organ at 2:21 when the Leafs hit the ice with the boos follow by the cheers when the Hawks show up from the stairs. My God what a place it was. I was lucky enough to go to many games through the mid 80's and early 90's at the Stadium. I was a young hockey player, and life didn't get any better than the privilege of going to a Hawks game. It's really hard to describe if you weren't there in that era, because like many things in life, words just don't do it justice. Seeing the marble walls after coming through the doors, then walking through the old turnstiles. Then getting into the narrow concourse with the low ceilings, and being hit with the smell of beer and hotdogs and cigarettes. Even as a kid I knew I was walking into a time capsule. The experience of being a Hawks fan and being in that building left an indelible mark on me as a kid. Your videos are like finding old lost pictures or movies of loved ones or something, and watching them is bittersweet. They are great to see, but then reality hits you that it's 2020, the world is crazy, I'm 40, and those days are gone forever. I went to the season opener this year. I think I heard the "Organ" twice. Non-stop techno music, laser shows, and the new gargantuan, epileptic seizure inducing scoreboard... Winning the cup and the success of the team in the last 10 years has been great, but going to a game is almost unrecognizable anymore to an older fan. When I get to Heaven, right after meeting Jesus and reuniting with family, I'm going to a Hawks / North Stars game at the Stadium! I'll take an MGD in a paper cup and a slice of Connies, and I'll see you in the third balcony! Go Hawks!
Hi and thanks for your comments, really! You are right, one can try to describe what a game and the atmosphere at the Stadium was like, but words can't convey it fully, at all. Whoever was in charge of production of the telecast of this game at CBC did a great thing with the opening, having everyone keep quiet and let the pictures and sounds tell the story, for posterity. I did enjoy the Hawks going on extended playoff runs and FINALLY winning the Cup in 2010 and 2013 (I wasn't watching at all by 2015), but haven't been able to sit through the presentation and execution of an NHL game for over 20 years now. But no hard feelings already, that's just the way that this world works. I hope with these videos to share some nostalgia and a little of what it was like and do appreciate your post.
I remember when i changed the channel from NBC which was showing _Bedtime with Barney: Imagination Island_ to CBC i saw the Leafs hit the ice with the boos follow by the cheers when the Hawks showed up from the stairs that was awesome. Not to mention the organ..that was great too.
@@skifusya2814 You've got it right, because i remember changing the channel from NBC (which was showing _Bedtime with Barney: Imagination Island_ to CBC) and saw the Leafs come up first from the stairs to boos from the crowd, then the Hawks came out to this big roar.... This just makes me sad to see how far television sports production has fallen. That intro going through Chicago Stadium was one of the best displays of pure sports romanticism I've seen - no announcers, no slick production, no hype music. All you needed to get jacked up for this game was to just listen to the crowd crescendo as the players stepped onto the ice and heard the organ belt out tunes.
Went to box office start of game 2 tickets amazingly available 1st row 1st balcony on blue line!!Best seats I ever had.Guy behind me asked how I got seats .Come to find out season ticket holder passed away.Roenick OT winner last goal at old barn.
Hats off to you for all these posts! These were great memories. Gary Suter was awesome. I mean, maybe Duncan Keith is the same calibre but he had the whole package. Physicality, offence, good skater, and character. This game was exciting and players were electrifying (JR). Thanks again
LOL! I had season tix in the 2nd balcony, west end. After Harvey Wittenberg did his usual schpiel, finishing with “When cheering for the Blackhawks, please use proper language.”, the same 3 guys at the top of our section would scream, “Fu** you, Harveyyy!!” Ah, what memories.
Miss our old Stadium so much. A true home ice advantage.

Really cool stuff to watch for sure
Should’ve kept and just renovated that arena

Instablaster.
The first 4 minutes were amazing! Great memories. How about at 1:10. "When cheering for the Blackhawks, please use proper language "
Thanks for watching. I remember in the early 80s the announcement was still "...please use language fit for the ears of women and children."

End of the game maybe???? Wtf!
