THE BEST City in Portugal⁉️🇵🇹Leiria...

  • Hello Amigas and Amigos🫡
We’re finally in Leiria. While many of the places I’ve filmed before were in the Leiria district, today we’re in the city of Leiria itself.
Leiria is a city rich in history and culture. It’s not just any city; it’s the capital of the Leiria district, covering 34.6 square kilometers with over 55,000 residents. The broader municipality spans an impressive 565.09 square kilometers and is home to around 128,616 people across 18 parishes, making it the second most populous in the region after Coimbra.
    Bit of history👌
Leiria’s journey began with its first charter granted by King Afonso in 1142. The city’s iconic Castle of Leiria offers stunning views and is a must-see. I showed you drone footage, the best I left for you to see in real life🙂
In 1545, Leiria became a city and the seat of the Diocese of Leiria.
I also visited Cathedral. The Leiria Cathedral, built in the late 16th century, is a blend of Renaissance and Mannerist styles, showcasing the city’s architectural heritage. Overall very beautiful💯
Leiria has faced challenges, like the French Invasions and the Great Fire of 1811. Yet, it rebounded, becoming an industrial hub by the 20th century. Today, the city’s economy thrives on trade, agriculture, and industries like ceramics, plastics, and tourism. And in 2022, Leiria was ranked as one of Portugal’s top cities for startups.
Leiria is famous for its delicious food, including roast suckling pig (leitão da Boavista) and traditional desserts like brisa do Lis. The city also hosts a historic annual fair from May 1 to 25, a tradition dating back to 1295. Something like that😄😄😄
    Distances from major cities:
    - Lisbon: 140 km (1.35 hours)
    - Porto: 185 km (1.45 hours)
    - Coimbra: 76 km (52 minutes)
Leiria is also one of the most affordable cities I’ve visited, with property prices at around 1,250 euros per square meter and long-term rentals at 8 euros per square meter per month.

I have been to Leiria and to a Castle I think where we could have a neat view of the city. I loved the vibe there. I think you would love trás- os- montes and Minho up north. I'm very glad that you were in my city Leiria. I hope you enjoyed it. Let me warn you about your drone images, you must have all permissions to operate it on the cities and outside if your drone capture images (specialy from AAN "portuguese aeronautical authority" and in some cases as Leiria, we are on a military restricted area and also need authorization from portuguese air force, if you film on any beach your will need also pertission from AMN (portuguese maritime authority from the area were you will film), otherwise the police will fine you and take all your stuff. I'm also drone pilot. Hope you enjoy my country and everything good that we have here. Big hug.

About the drone - Yes, I know about the regulations. I confirm every flight with AAN, and the police stopped me in Leiria, right next to their building😁 But I can tell you that a lot of tourists don't know this and fly wherever they want. I've seen that in real life and also on RUclips👌

A city that doesn't exist can't be the best. 😉😄
I find it very strange that you couldn't get permission to fly the drone in Torres Novas but for Leiria, which is right next door to one of the major air bases in Portugal (Monte Real), you could.
Adega dos Caçadores is closed on Sundays. Was it by any chance when you were there?
28:36 - And the mega shopping centre in Parceiros, which includes the Leiriashopping (it has a Continente inside), Media Markt, Staples, other supermarkets, car dealerships, a music store (Ludimusic) and other businesses. More ammenities than you'll ever need if you live there. 😄

@@millionplacesoneworld - Oh boy, I see you're not aware of the meme... It all started around the 2010's with a trend that every country had a city that "doesn't exist": in Germany it's Bielfeld, in the Netherlands it's Drenthe, in Brazil it's Acre, in the US it's Wyoming, and so on and so on. In Portugal it started when someone posted a map online where the Leiria district didn't exist, so a portuguese "redditer" took that map and posted a video on Reddit, starting the # leirianãoexiste trend. Then it really took off in 2021 when a new map of the Iberian Peninsula was added to the Euro Truck Simulator 2: no matter how many times the players "drove" on the A1 between Lisbon and Porto and vice-versa, they could never find the exit to Leiria because Leiria didn't exist on that map! 😆
No, I've never been to the Adega but online it says it's closed on Sundays.
The LeiriaShopping itself is massive but what I was referring to is the whole area surrounding it, on both sides of the free stretch of the A19/IC2 south of Leiria. If you see "Área Comercial" written in the road signs, it's in that direction. Or just search for LeiriaShopping and look at the map. 🙂

Although they are in the Leiria district, places like Ansião, Pedrógão Grande, Figueiró dos Vinhos or even Pombal have very little to do with what people envision when they think about Leiria, which usually is more the coastal area: Nazaré, Peniche, S. Pedro de Moel, Alcobaça, Caldas da Rainha, etc. Ansião is even closer to Tomar (around 30mins) than to Leiria (around 45mins). 🙂
