Hi Jennifer! These are for livestock tanks, not for human consumption. It is common practice to use stainless or galvanized steel in those- for the valves, for something like this, or for the actual tanks themselves. :)
Please reconsider using this due to the possibility of chemicals from the tire leaching into the water, especially when exposed to heat and sunlight 😬 Wire ingested by cattle from the tire can also lead to the potentially fatal hardware disease. The wire can also cut or poke the cattle.
