Heard him at the MET back in 92 (Rigoletto with Swenson & Leech)....Very big and solid voice....Had never heard of him before that night...and nevre forgot him after that night
Have any of you messed up words during concerts and opera performances? Very common. The trick is to continue, not get confused. He recovered very well. As for the quality he brings to the role, I wish we had today more singers like Manuguerra.
I have admired maestro Managuerra for more years that i can remember,it started in 60s with Tosca ,in this aria he started nervous, but warm up half way, lost some of the chest power,he ca stand next to Zancanaro Taddei e BASTIANINI, Grazie e Saluti GINO
Matteo Manuguerra empezo a cantar tarde, alos treinta y muchos o cuarenta.
Definitely Managuerra can stand up to Bastianini and Taddei.. but I would not dare to put Zancanaro anywhere near to these giants.. maybe ..to Gobbi!! Naturally these are opinions.
@@robertmanno5749 Interesting. I’ve no reason to doubt Zancanaro’s ability to project, but wasn’t his voice a size or two lighter than Bastianini’s? Certainly, Bastianini’s was darker, but colour isn’t always the same thing as weight. You were there live, so I’d be curious to hear your perception on this.
@@ER1CwC Unfortunately I never heard Bastianini "live." So it's really difficult to compare with Zancanaro whom I was on stage with a number of times, and heard from the MET audience as well. Maybe Bastianini had bit more darkness and steel in the voice, but in terms of intensity of expression I think there was a similarity between the two.
I was there on this night. Believe me, it was even more impressive live!

Lucky man, maybe I think it was a unic chance. I'm imaging that night like a Magic Night.
Que suerte🎉

I was on stage then in the chorus. He is my favorite Rigoletto of all time.
I've always liked his voice very much
i was there.. it was the first item on the programme...many of us rose to our feet!
Absolutely wonderful , especially at his age. !
He started to study at 35 years old! Amazing
Incredible
Simply incredible, what a voice, a clear example when you develop a great vocal technique, you can sing beautifully in your later years. ❤
Meraviglioso, bravissimo ! Grande Matteo !
Outstanding!
Bravo Manuguerra! I love the color and timbre of his voice.
magnifico il cantante e l'interprete !!
Nato a Costantinopoli - … Soldato! :D Ovvio!
Bravo.
This guy makes you feel like singing. I love the poise and ease of his production. This is art!
Bravo Maëstro! Not one of those artificially dark made Baritones of our days! Wonderful singing technique which has naturally matured! Bravi Mateo!
Impecable, Manuguerra una gloria del canto!
For a while i sang in the chorus and i heard him several times.we became friends in his last years. Bravissimo
Matteo Manuguerra - one of the all time greats.
There is also a general feeling of relaxation, economy and efficiency of breath. Fabulous and fabulous again!
Incredible. Matteo - the best. Bravo, maestro!!!
Extraordinario Manuguerra . Para no olvidar.
Une des plus belles voix de baryton. Grandiose, extraordinaire.
Talk about 'stand and deliver'! There is an almost superhuman combination of power and poise in this voice. Let's not bicker about the rest.

braaaaaaaaaaavoooooooooooooooooo

@tenorotti beh... ci "accontentiamo" bene, direi.... :)
Manuguerra + Guadagno= PARADISE

Nato a Costantinopoli? Straniero!
Studiò a Saint Cyr? Soldato!
It's OK. That's a minor mistake that's easy to make.
Es cierto, equivocó el texto:
Nato a Costantinopoli? Straniero!
Studiò a Saint Cyr? Soldato!

A proper retracted tongue; as it should be. Unlike the teaching of today of holding the tip behind the bottom teeth. Disastrous to do so.
+MrCafiero I love showing this to my older students. Nothing like video to show you the truth.
Absolutely! I agree totally.
Silver Singing Method : please can me explain, why retracted tongue should it be. What is it good for?
His mouth is a consistent sized , adjustable resonating space. The vowels are equalized, ( as well as the afore mentioned tongue position.)

I was onstage at the MET with Zancanaro. In my opinion he was as close to Bastianini as one could get.

@@robertmanno5749 That’s plausible. In any case, you are very lucky! Were you in the Met chorus? What operas did you appear in with Zancanaro?
@@ER1CwCYes, I was in the Chorus from 1977-2002. I remember Zanncanaro in Trovatore and Chenier.
Beh...le parole...soldato...soldato...almeno era convincente. Grande.
"Nato a Constantinopoli....soldato?? 😄
Nato a Costantinopoli - straniero, non soldato!
È un errore facile da fare.
Fantastico
