    We will see how they look in the new edition but I love using Armored Sentinels in a Mech list. Not amazing in terms of damage, but it takes a lot for an enemy to bring them down for only 40-something points. Really great to have something able to soak up a lot of firepower when you have fewer units to target.

      Same here. Now that we can bring them back with a strat I think a squad of 3 will be an auto-include in Guard lists.

    When building your Armored fist company's, Don't forget that the baneblade and its many variants are an important option to consider.
    In 9th, The central objective was usually the eye of the storm in most games, and a lot of secondary's revolved around it. A stormlord with 40 infantry or an equivalence of Ogryn could be a surprisingly effective way of taking away oaths from power armored foes. ..Storm lords also did a good job of anti light/medium infantry in a list that just packed alot less las-guns than normal. That leaves your Kasarkin/vets/Scions in chimeras to claim the flanks while the manticores and the mortars provide fire support to whatever flank needs it the most.
    Just don't forget to screen, Every melee army in the game will punish you for leaving gaps in your lines. Your the guard, Move out in waves.

    I've got an army of primarily tactical marines and razorbacks, farming CP via secondaries; assassinate, grind them down and behind enemy lines.
    Jump pack assault marines get bodies into the backline BR 2 before reserve tacs get there BR 3, lots of obsec to take and hold points, and lots of threatening firepower in the vehicles theoretically makes threat assessment tough

    My traditional list throughout 8th and 9th Edition was generally 3 HQs (currently a Castellan, Cadian Command Squad, and Tank Commander), 6 infantry squads (currently being reconfigured for 10th Ed with Plasma, Vox, and Missile Launchers) in Chimeras, a pair of Commissars, two heavy weapons squads with Lascannons (probably gonna swap them to missile launchers, a three-tank squad of Leman Russes, and an extra Chimera to carry my commanders. It didn't perform very well for a lot of 8th and 9th but it has performed pretty well in more recent games. Depending on how the points work out for 10th Edition, it will probably change a bit with HK missiles everywhere I can stick them.

    This is honestly just what I was looking for. I started a guard army a few months ago (have painted 3 cadian infantry, a command squad and a leman Russ) and I hadn't really figured out what I wanted to specialize in, (so far I've only gotten esentials that basically any army will need) and this kind of tactic Sounds pretty cool.

  • @chaosmike89th

    Thoughts on an Iron Warrior mech army? Would Land Raiders have a place as the fist inside the armored gauntlet, or would it make more sense to stick with Rhinos and other hard hitters?

    • @blackwolf671
      @blackwolf671 Год назад +1

      In 9th, Sadly no. Infantry are just vastly more cost effective and the mobility isn't worth the cost of the transport. Especially the Land raider. Theirs some play with Loading Rhinos full of melee, threats like berserkers or Chosen, and world eaters have actually scene some use of land raiders even. ...but none of that is really what your playing Iron warriors for.
      That said, Its still to early to get into the real grit of lists building in 10th, especially without points costs available. But its shaping up to be a Vehicle heavy meta, It full well might just be the edition of the tank. Certainly worth experimenting with and giving it a go once all the indexes are out. But from the data sheets, I genuinely think Dreadnoughts, Vindicators and Land raiders will see use, we may even see predators and whirlwind on the table for the first time since the end of 7th ed.
      (R.I.P for the traitors true best transport, The Beloved hades breaching drill. He will be missed.)

    I do love mechanised infantry, but I play marines so it's usually too expensive. 6 razorbacks with a tactical squad and 2 characters is nearly 3 quarters of 2K points so it's not really that good, especailly since tacticals and razorbacks aren't exactly the greatest units. My favourite list however, is a redeemer with two flanking razorbacks and a boxdread + a fast unit like bikes or assault marines each. Not really full mechanized and as many tanks as I'ld like to take, but at the very least there's a bit of variety.

  • @colonelsanders82
    @colonelsanders82 Год назад

    I'm honestly ashamed to say that even in an army as numerous as Guard, it can be tough fitting *enough* of what I want in a Guard mech list. Getting enough 'bodies' to play objectives well while having enough firepower and support units to make your army work. There probably is no sweet spot ratio and how well your ratio works probably depends on what your opponents list is.
    It's also probably way too early for me to really guess as to how Guard will really work in 10th, but I will probably try doing Hybrid guard *with* mech. Maybe for every armored fist squad I will have a regular blog of 20 foot sloggers. The expectation that the 20 foot sloggers will move up/screen/die/then come back as reinforcements, while the armored fist squads are there to be sneaky outfkankers or just make sure you aren't losing forward progress when the blobs die and come back. The other tricky thing will be making sure all units have access to orders. Which I am sure would look like Command squads for the blobs, a castellan for the armored fists, and a tank commander for the handful of Leman Russes. And that will be a lot of things to try and fit in one list, even for Guard.

      I have a meme list with a Stormlord with 4 Heavy Flamer Sponsons I fill with 10 Bullgryn, Commisar, Engineseer, and a DreadNork Command Squad with Power Fists...followed up with Lord Solar. Drive the Stormlord to the center of the map, unload turn two and let the mayhem commence.
      Lord Solar giving Mech orders to Stormlord, and Fix Bayonets to Bullgryn and take cover to the command squad. Makes the Center of the battlefield and 12" around it uninhabitable to the enemy.

      I'd say it can work but it's def not the strongest built. However throwing like 8 tanks and 12 sentinels at the enemy is great fun.
