Richard Hoʻopiʻi and George Kahumoku Jr. walked into the PBS Hawaii studio, sat down with their instruments, and began to play. George, with his mellow slack key guitar and soothing voice, performing alongside Richard, with his never ending smile and his beautiful falsetto, offered song after song, with talk story in-between. This impromptu concert can only be described as pure joy.

Maui music icon and one half of the Ho'opi'i Brothers, Uncle Richard Ho'opi'i transitioned in 2018. He was 76 years old. His brother Solomon left us in 2006. What a beautiful catalog of classic Hawaiian music they left for us to enjoy. A hui hou, uncle. A hui hou and mahalo nui for the mele.

Richard Ho'opi'i is one of my favorite singers. This is the first time I ever heard him sing when it wasn't falsetto, when he sang lower on the first song. I smiled from ear to ear. These guys are having too much fun. So great this video, and such great music. Make you smile all day. Mahalo Nui
