In the state of Florida we have no income tax yet there was a surplus to the state budget for several years in a row. Good thing too! During the course of my professional life, I had to attend various civic receptions. The booze was flowing without limit and all totally FREE, and the food was of the best quality, fit for any top-class restaurant. The councillors were three part drunk as a rule and all this was paid for out of their 'Entertainment' budget. The policy seemed to be "Any excuse for a reception". People should make a Freedom of Information request to their local authorities - county and borough - and ask how much has been spent, year on year, for the last 7 years. I daresay that rarely have any saving been made, rarely have any economies been made.

We have just moved back to the UK from living in Alicante Spain. Our council tax in Alicante for a much larger house and great service with smiles everywhere was €380 Euro per year. Our council tax in Glasgow is £383 pounds per month for a 3rd world service.

This is getting ridiculous now, water bills increasing by £125, fuel costs due to increase again in April and council tax to take another huge rise. All this on top of the winter fuel allowance abolition. Our own pensioners are absolutely reeling at all this. Shameful - LABOUR OUT.

Guess what the council tax will be for these 6 councils next year? Their councils will demand the same level, with the mantra that 'This year has plugged a small hole'. The problem is in my town nearly 30% don't pay any council tax, so 2/3rds are bailing out the rest.
Be more than 30% not paying in my city, we've already had 2 rises of 8.5% each a year in last 2 years, this year another 7% all compounded.

What is the Law with a Bankrupt business trying to insist on debt and future payments, are you legally required to pay a bankrupted council its bill. I’m sure there is a law, that once a business or individual has gone Bankrupt, it can Not Collect Payments, surely these councils which are run as a business fall into this ?

Councils that have got into trouble and require rises in council tax should be held more accountable at all levels and investigated automatically for possible fraud

We are paying for golden pensions of councils from our council tax wrong on so many levels.our town council put up town council rate by 163% last year and 39% this year.13% overall when tax was limited to 5% raise from gov't.
only 7 months in and the damage caused by labour continues..council money is not only spent on the area it has to be spent on houseing to home all the incoming people into this country.
all councils are alocated a amount of people it has to find homes for ..
They spend too much on social programs they can't afford but too politically sensitive to cut back on.
