The arcade version does not have Noob Saibot or Rain as unlockable characters. However, if you choose Smoke, and then hold back, hp, hk, bl, and run until the match starts, Smoke will turn into human Smoke.
Thanks so much. Used them on my MK Arcade1Up and it worked perfectly. Especially the early model cabinet which actually saves the unlocked characters even after the machine is turned off. I remember unlocking Ermac (the easiest one) at an arcade place like 15 years ago. There were a few kids watching me and when Ermac appeared on screen, their faces were like they had seen a display of dark magic 😂
To unlock human smoke you have to pick Cyborg smoke then Hold High Kick High Punch Block and Run until the match starts and cyborg smoke will morph back to human smoke

I always found it easier to do it all at once, like playing chords on a piano with a finger on each button. Push both hands down to push all buttons at once, and just let your fingers off the individual buttons when you have pressed them enough times. That way you only have to press down four times, and just take your fingers off the outer buttons as you go. Take your ring fingers off after one press, your pinkies off after two, your middle fingers off after three, and press once more with your thumbs and forefingers.

I recently Mileena as you described on a friend's emulator. It didn't work. The code is 22264-22264, but as follows: HP-HP-LP-LP-BL-BL-LK-LK-LK-LK-LK-LK-HL-HK-HK-HK. If you don't have a friend to help you will have to input the code simultaneously on your own, since they only give 10 seconds. If you have a friend around they can input the code on player 2 while you input the code on player 1.
I remember going through some cpu nerd forums and learning this code. My GF at the time also knew it. We went to a local arcade and did the code for Ermac (we didn't know Sub Zero or millena at the time) but it blew the crowd away. We were King and Queen for the night at that arcade. lol. Good times....

Rain is not unlockable OR even playable in the arcade version of UMK3. He's only available in the home ports.

You somehow did the same exact buttons as unlocking smoke on the code screen wow that must have been surprising.

It wasn't really a code if I remember correctly. It was just one of the "Shao Khan's Treasures" that you could select.

IIRC, you need to fight ermac and win with Mercy, and then you can keep playing

Sounds to me like you’re using an emulator, and the settings are set to discard rom states on exit…?
