I believe that this is my favorite Humble Pie song. The contrast between Greg's deeper gritty voice and Steve's absolutely soaring higher notes is chilling to me. Too bad most people only know HP from songs like 30 Days and Doctor, which are also awesome. However there are so many gems hidden in the albums. I also love their first album Safe as Yesterday Is. Totally different style than later albums, but just lovely, lots of acoustic beauties.

Greg's soulful baritone and Steve's soaring high tenor were one of the best vocal combinations ever.

Like someone said the contrast between the two voices blend so well but holy crap anytime Steve Marriott's voice comes into any song it's like another world nobody's ever going to touch it I can't even begin to describe his voice other than Irreplaceable

This is like country-soul and one of their best songs imo. I was in a boys home in Tulsa, OK, in 1974 when our counselors took us to see Humble Pie. Robin Trower opened for them.

psytranscience That must’ve been an awesome concert. I would’ve loved to have seen Humble Pie live, during any point between 1969-1974. I love every album they did during that time period, regardless if it was Frampton or Clem. Every album had a different sound and vibe to it. One of my favorite songs Pie did was on the second album, Town And Country, and it’s a cover of Heartbeat by Buddy Holly. They make it sound like a power pop song, and it’s amazing.
So cool you got to see Humble Pie live during their zenith. You’re a lucky fellow.....

I saw that concert in Long Beach. My girlfriend came to school shaking and said Steve Marriott picked her up hitchhiking . I don’t know if it really was him or not but she believed so .

Please name me some modern singers with vocal cords similar to Steve Marriott's... I miss that raw sound!

2 years later no names of modern singers similar to Steve haven’t been said because there are none. Steve Marriott was a one of a kind, it took 2 people Ronnie Wood & Rod Stewart to replace him! He had such a great voice & was a very underrated musician. May he Rest In Peace. Cheers🍻

Jay Buchanan from Rival Sons - right up there with Marriott, Plant,Gillan,Rodgers,Reid,Holder and Cornell. He can sing anything.Check them out best live rock band out there and have been for the past 10 years.

@@grantshenton7079 Agree that Jay Buchanan is a great vocalist. Mollie Marriott says in an interview, she is friends with Rival Sons. Once, early on, she said to Jay " I can't believe how much you sometimes remind me of my father". To which Jay replied, "I'm sorry Mollie, I don't know who your father is!!" Hard to believe, but he had never heard of Steve Marriott!?! Well, I guess he learned, because his tribute to Steve of "Black coffee" is the best I've heard other than Steve himself.
