Is that the last torsion bar, the last one in the back? Or is it the one in the middle

Do you have to re program the trans?

Yes... the reverse band burns up in these ... with a proper rebuild kit on there computer it'll fix that issue... plus if it's down and open... why not.

Did you ever publish part 2. I would love to see how this went. I have a very bad rear main seal and I think pulling the trans is better than pilling the motor

Just a general question. Is it worth rebuilding a Xterra 04

I know the question is vague but driving other trucks would it be worth the time?

I enjoy my xterra and it has a really solid 4x4 platform that works great up here on the mountain... but... they are a pain to work on.

You have to take the exhaust off and it takes some finessing...

Could you have a worse enviroment to do a really tough job? that ground must have been hell on your back plus easy to loose nuts and bolts in , i would have put down a 4x8 sheet of 3/4 plywood so you could roll the trans jack on and stay a little cleaner . That starter removal was a BITCH! i used a mirror so i could see the battery terminal nut. Also, those stupid brackets on each side of the engine block that keep that thin dust cover thats sandwitched inbetween the trans from comming down was a real pain! I dont know how im going to get the bolts back in especially on the drivers side the nuts on the exhaust flange (well cat converter) were fun especially the drivers side as the 02 sensor has to come out , i have everything disconnected except the converter bolts and bell housing and the dipstick

I actually had plywood under the jack...I usually try and pick the most hostile environment possible to work in... there were rocks under the truck but I just pushed them into the ground with my back muscles like a real man... if I was on concrete it would probably just crack...I would like to do a slab one day but I really want to plan out where that goes and I've always worked on cars/ equipment outside anyways... and yes... I'm patient with most things but this has bent my vocabulary a few times.

@@scottsthaname1 I took the transmission all apart today but really didnt see anything catostrophic inside , most of the clutch disc still have the grooves in them, the planetary gears are like new everything worked except reverse, i did find that long lever thing next to the pump vanes stuck, i guess this controlls the line pressure rise? Also one of those white plastic cups the soinoid springs sit it was sticking and wouldnt come out with my finger so i blew into a hole close to it and it blew out and blew burnt trans oil all over me. ! You know i was feeling prety confident i could rebuild this thing untill i took the valve body apart and all these ball bearings fell out of who knows where inside where theres about 500 little passages! I also had trouble taking one of the snap rings out because a bunch of springs on a wheel push up against it! I made a makeshift clamp using a wood bar clamp and a piece of 3 in PVC pipeto push it down, I have everything out all degreased, not shure about the torque conveter of its condition or how to extract the fluid out. Also this big round part behind the pump that has several square o rings in it was kind of worn but for a transmission with almost 300,000 miles on it i was surprised there wasnt more worn out looking parts inside . his is an exhausting job and messy as well , my entire garage has 2 tables full of transmission parts and truck parts ect. I just hope i can put this thing back together and it works.

@@jbncnow I'm waiting on a bearing kit and new torque converter to put mine back together, I've got everything else. I also have the manual which is very detailed as to where all those balls go... and when blowing valves out put a cloth over it. It can be a bit overwhelming but just take your time and worst case scenario... we'll see what tannerite does to an Xterra :-)
