It's not a mess, it's Vinnie in total control. Why do you think Vinnie said 'Want you to clap to this one'?! That guy can push and pull the time meter like the frickin' master he is.
Here's what I'm hearing ( different to what your hearing): The piece is in 4/4 but Vinnie intermittently drops 16th notes that cause the drum pattern to "shift" given the illusion tat an odd meter is being played. Here, in this performance after the first 4 bars of played time the backing track or hand claps fall on the "dropped 16ths" with the band still playing in 4. It's the second time round the head of the piece when Vinnie joins the backing track with the dropped 16ths. Continued..
Ah yes you are correct, this becomes evident during the guitar solo in this performance. The hand clap falls out early. This evaded me on first listen. Not too stifling to listen to but like you said they recover well.
You are correct in noting that the clapping backing track appears to be out of sync in this performance and doesn't on the recording. However, you failed to notice that on the recording the hand claps land on the back beat the first time through the head of the piece and then off in the second time round. Here, live, it seems they chose to keep the dropped 16th backing track through out unlike the recording. The displaced hand caps sound great against the standard beat so no real desync here!
The rest of the band play in 4 as usually as their parts do not change or drop beats. Only the drums do this as it's a rhythmic illusion that would be lost if any other member joined in.I mention the recording as you had encouraged us to"compare to the original" and I found that in the original the hand clap doesn't drop 16ths until the second time round the head of the piece but here(live) it happens only after 4 bars(intro) but Vinnie just plays through it instead of marking it the first time.
@@drumtavo yes that is true but not during the discussed part ,which I called the head or the main part of the tune. Here in the second time round Vinnie displaces over the other's four. I thought I was clear on that, my point wasn't about the other sections where those meters you mentioned are played but on either side of the head ex keyboards 7 over the intro and outro or during Vinnie's solo. Pls check where the looped hand clap is in the track. Coliauta does have exact subdivisions during the head but as he explains in an interview, on youtube, he intended an odd feel over common time. I'll link to you. Thanks for your input though
@@drumtavo ruclips.net/video/lcDUp4-3Zt4/видео.html at the 2:30 minute mark he explains what I was referring to. Again those meters you mention are there but not during the head where its actually a rhythmic illusion called displacement as Vinnie describes in the linked video.
Was this gig in the 90's? This song is so pop, that's why i was wondering. But that " clap your hands" was so cheesy. I guess Celine Dion was supposed to join these guys onstage.

Karizma = Definition of badass.
The four of them Vinnie, Neil, Micheal and David. Gimme a fuckin' break. 🤯
the perfect combination of musicians to create the best fusion band ever!
Vinnie , Landau , Stubenhaus , Garfield ,certainly can groove!

MICHAEL LANDAU!!!
I wish I could give 10000 likes to this
Everybody live music on their own, not headbanging isn't a sign of good music
Michael Landau is the perfection
simply the best!
Mastery of beat displacement!! :D
Killer music! :D :D :D
Unai Emery nailing it on guitar
sounds like the soundtrack for a 1980's Busch Gardens commercial.

God damn!! 😳😂
Monstrueusement virtuose
Ahi la crema y nata del electric jazz. Solo ellos pueden tocar ese super patrón, es casi imposible de cojerlos!
They all have grooves... Karizma is fusiony, DT is prog-metal, and Planet X is experimental rock.

So much arguing in the comments about maths and I'm shit at maths! Anyway I enjoyed this, thanks for posting.

OOOOO FREAKING AWESOMENESS!
Nobody's headbanging. :)) Bands like this, Dream Theater, and Planet X shall rule the music industry by the year 2050. :))
A topeeeeeeeeeee
John Travolta on bass, guys.

They are Monster.

Woooooooooooowwww :) 😎
total mind fuck.
sip, de hecho, la cancion viene en el unico disco solista de vinnie
I think I´d write this about Vinnie´s DRUMMING.
Very cool. Do you have any more from this show?
Is this a video release? If so, where can one find one?
asking the real questions. I will leave a tactical comment here in case you will get your answer.

THE BAND IS NOT ONLY PLAYING IN 4. THERE ARE MELODIES IN 7/8 AND 15/4. THE DRUM SOLO VAMP IS IN 3/4 CHECK IT.

U mad, bro?

So I guess you don't know why he said that.....
DT and PX are good bands i guess, but they got no groove
