    This episode had so many references to actual Atlanta, that was missed too. From White Grady (Grady is known as the hospital for poor black people), threatening Aaron with taking the MARTA, the public transportation line for the city, typically riddin by the working class black population; also Cobb County, one of the whitest counties petitioned not to have Marta built up to its County afraid it would bring more blacks into the area. Lithonia, where the Nigerian kid said he was from is a heavily black populated area of Georgia. Lastly, taking down the name of Stonewall Jackson, the confederate leader is reminiscent of Stone Mountain park. The side of the mountain has a carving of Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee (not S), and President of the confederate states, Jefferson Davis. For years, people have unsuccessfully petitioned to have the carving removed from the side of the mountain, but to this day it's still there showing its embarrassing confederate glory. Also, I believe Donald Glover is from the stone mountain area.

    A little too realistic with how things are here in Atlanta. Aaron rejected who he was until he saw it benefited him. And frighteningly real with how his friends responded to the scholarship. You encounter a lot of people mad because they feel black scholarships are reverse racist, and even have politicians working hard at removing such programs and now even our history. In college I heard a lot of those comments about minority universities, programs etc. and regardless of how much you try to educate white people on why such programs are NEEDED they still don't like it.

And/or perhaps is it not even more poetic that his ex gets the best lay of her life due to Aaron embracing his blackness (hence the very last shot)?

      @iamawin8272 2 года назад +55

      I agree with what you’re saying but I don’t think it’s so black and white. Throughout the season we see everyone embracing their culture for their own benefit. Shaniqua benefits from hers with her restitution taxes and Liam Neeson embraces his when he tells Al how he doesn’t have to learn anything because of his white privilege. Everyone does it no matter what you say. Aaron may be only doing it now because of circumstances but I also think seeing a black man get shot by a cop with no hesitation may have made him realize some things. On top of the fact that he got sent to jail and probably has a very low chance of going to a college he wants. He may be using the other side of his culture for his own benefit now but he may also have a better understanding of this identity now given what he went through.

    This season of ATL was one of the best seasons of TV I’ve ever seen. Every episode meant something. I don’t understand why ppl don’t like it. It’s nearly flawless, only thing I didn’t like was the last episode went on a little too long. Other than that this season was great.

    • @adamgoodell5805
      @adamgoodell5805 2 года назад +14

      I agree. The first two season are great television, but still mostly traditional development of the core characters and storyline of their growth. Season 3 just exploded with creativity and social commentary that's kind of like nothing else on right now.

    I love that this episode showed what many people who aren’t biracial don’t understand, which is that race is a spectrum, and a social construct.

    • @lylemcdermott2566
      @lylemcdermott2566 21 час назад

      Nah, he is mixed skin color (over)acting black. Black people only see he's white. White people only sees the black in him so they treat him like a black. He's biracial or whatever that implies ( personally I don't think that's how race and genes work) so he's royally Fked. Everybody looks at him weird. And now he has to play that st pd game of two faces. F .people of either race.
