They said the ship lost power before it hit calling a mayday for help . By the ship calling a mayday the shut the bridge down to save other people's life. Until the investigations are done we only hope we see no casualties as so far it seems no one has lost their lives but there must still be cars in the River they need to find but anyone still in them will obviously not survive. The bridge does have lights & power cables which is what you saw explode . I live outside of Baltimore & have been over this bridge many times , the pilings don't have flammable material in them . At the time the ship hit all the lights would have been on. We only care about those on the bridge at time this happened & so far i think we may have gotten lucky but till they are done with the investigations we won't know everything .

Consider the consequences of this. First they have to complete the search and rescue mission and then they have to remove the enormous structure off the ship. Then removing the ship. Then they have to extract the entire bridge span from the water. How long will all of this take and at what cost? Then designing and rebuilding a new entire bridge span and how many years will that take and again at what cost? Meanwhile like any bridge it was a major artery for transport feeding local economies so this will have a serious impact on shipments of goods ! What a mess! Pray for the families!🙏🇱🇷
