1st let me say I'm a SEGA fanboy but my god. Come on SEGA. I was honestly initially so hyped for this when one of the 1st games announced was Virtua Fighter. I thought finally! We're going to see alot more of those late 90s 3D games come home! I was especially hoping we would see Virtua Striker 1 included as it was never released on a home console and was extremely popular in Japan. I would of purchased this for that game alone. Instead we got a bunch of 80s games we've literally seen on 100 other consoles, compilations and plug and plays. To say I'm so disappointed is a massive understatement.
Totally agree but i don’t think they can release star wars because of license issues. If they could they should also release moonwalker and spiderman, also great games. Why not Sonic though, the arcade version that uses a trackball. I understand they would have to translate the trackball controls to the arcade stick. Buy they did it with the racing game included, why not sonic? Especially when sonic’s anniversary is coming up.
@@michaelsierra9 Sega has a great relationship with Disney and probably could get the license for Star Wars like they did with the Mickey Mouse games on the Genesis Mini. I've recently ran acros your channel and videos on the Sega systems. I'm really enjoying your work and this was a great video on a system that I'm going to look into.
Some great games in this list; Shinobi, Wonder Boy, Fantasy Zone and Ninja Princess are games that have kept me coming back for over 30 years and never get old. But who wants to play them on a tiny toy cabinet? And vertical games on an already-tiny horizontal screen?
I’m guessing that a lot of folks don’t have the same nostalgia for a cabinet that never came out in the west. The Astro City is just as iconic as the red MVS cab over in Japan. I’m totally sold on it, I think it’s great. I used to have a full sized Astro City but had to give it up for lack of space. This however is perfect, I love that Sega are going more all out with this than they did with the Genesis Mini (at least in Japan)
Just to let you know, you can use other controller/fighting stick by connect Mayflash MAGIC-NS adapter(updated to V.1.28 or higher firmware and set to "white light"). I use HORI Fighting stick mini 4 now. Mayflash Magic NS with firmware 1.28 or above (latest 1.32), it supports Sega Genesis/MD mini & Sega Astro City mini. After updated firmware to v1.28 or higher, user must switch the mode to "white light" while connecting to a PC, MAC, or LINUX computer. Then, you can connect your "white light" Magic NS to Sega Astro City. Now you can use XBOX One controller(wireless), PS4 controller(wireless), and Nintendo Switch Pro controller(wireless) on your Sega Astro City mini. You can also use HORI fighting stick mini on it
for PS4 wireless pairing. user press "PS + Share" at the same time. for XBOX wireless pairing, press "X" and it will flash slowly. Then press the "pairing button" for few sec and wait. for NS Pro controller, simply press "pairing button" for few sec and wait.
*Honestly, I find the list of games too short and really underwhelming, filled with too many unnecessary entries, especially for such a small screen.* You can have 3 different Columns games on your system... but only if you propose over 200 games in total, not if you only stick to a few dozen. And no Afterburner, G-Loc, Galaxy Force II ?
Looking forward to the release. I'm importing for the 4th episode note you give. Hopefully, they'll be encouraged to mine their arcade past in all regions
All of them look like the arcade games to me, not sure what you mean. That is what arcade games from the mid 1980s look like. If you'd rather play boring later games like Arabian Magic rather than classics like Flicky and Wonder Boy I don't know what to tell you.
Anthony Flack I know that’s what arcade games looked like in the mid 80’s - I was around at the time. All comes down to what you have more nostalgia for; personally I have more nostalgia for games from the mid to late 90’s (of which Sega has many, many great titles) which I find to have more depth gameplay-wise and also look better visually too.....That’s what I mean. You shouldn’t judge everyone else by your own standards as everybody’s tastes are subjective.
@@Shadowbann3d - the way you said "half of these look like Master System games!" made it sound like that's a bad thing, somehow. It's got nothing to do with nostalgia, I play the games that play well, which is why Wonder Boy still gets played a lot, and After Burner gets played never.
Looks nice and I'm sure there will be people purchasing two (one full set for collecting and one for using). It is a real pity 4 usb ports weren't utilized (though usb hubs work on laptops and such). One can hope and pray that the 4-player arcades will support 4 players and they will have some sort of device for that. Maybe a model 2 in the works; and yeah, genre specific would be AWESOME!
Cotton is still owned by Success, Sega just licensed the game for use on this system as it never received an arcade perfect port for consoles. Also, crazily enough, Seiishun Scandal/My Hero had to be licensed from Bandai Namco for use on the system, as Banpresto, a company now owned by Bandai Namco, developed the arcade game.
Overall a solid lineup, all things considered. Yea, some games could have been left out for others. But I like to get it for Revenge of Death Adder and the other arcade ports that never seen a home release.
I wish they represented the early 3D era a bit more, but I'd be happy with the lineup if I was considering buying one. I'm curious as to what it could do if/when it gets hacked. Sonic The Fighters or Fighting Vipers would be killer
I look at this, and can't help but be reminded of the Neo Geo Mini (which I have), and it has many of the same aesthetics (plug in controllers for 2 player action, HDMI port, etc). Of course, this will have an edge over it being it's using arcade roms, whereas the Neo Geo Mini used the console ports. But I do want to wait and see if there will be a "international" version as well, as it may get rid of some of the less wanted games.
Me: Why bother? Aren't all this on Genesis anyway? Sega Lord X: Don't be fooled into thinking you've played this if you have a Genesis. The arcade game is infinitely superior. Me: Well, ok then....
I'm sold for this mini device. Also, the list of arcade games is great but A: They should've add SegaSonic the Hedgehog (System 32, which was an arcade-exclusive Sonic game, although having two games with the word "Sonic" in the title might confused the hell outta people otherwise) and Heavy Metal (System 2, an underappreciated yet interesting arcade game by Sega in the 80s which never ported on home systems) instead of Alex Kidd in Miracle World and My Hero. And B: It seems that this device goes a bit overboard with puzzle games, don't you think? But then again like you said, puzzle games are popular in Japan. But other than that, as a Sega arcade fan, I will definitely gonna buy the Astro City Mini.
I HAVE been living under a rock, this is the first time I’ve heard of Astro City Mini. Revenge of Death Adder is tempting indeed. A couple of cool curiosities too. However, since it’s a Japan only product I can probably motivate myself to save my money instead...
Revenge of Death Adder, Eswat, Ninja Princess, Thunder Force, Cotton!? Arabian Fight!? SHADOW DANCER?! All right, I'm sold. Thank you, Sega. And thank you for keeping me up to date, SLX! I was planning to just wait and see if there would be a western release, but it looks like most of these have minimal language barrier, and there's a lot of stuff on here I've wanted to play for years. I might just pick this one up. But yeah, so many falling block puzzle games. And I would have been happier with After Burner or Thunder Blade rather than Space Harrier. Not gonna hate on Altered Beast, but I do think the Genesis version plays better. I felt like I could actually learn and get better at it. Arcade felt like it was there to mug you out of your cash. Or maybe I just suck at it...

i have a Arcade machine at home with over 1000 games and i love to play some of this games,Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder is one of the best Arcade games ever.
Great overview! Definitely going to preorder now with all the fixins
Would like to have seen dynamite dux on here as well
I've recently ran acros your channel and videos on the Sega systems. I'm really enjoying your work and this was a great video on a system that I'm going to look into.
Give me a driving version and a light gun version and I'll be an extremely happy Sega fan
Great idea^^
Would have loved a lightgun mode with Virtua cop, ghost squad, house of dead and other shooters.
That would fly off the shelf
Some great games in this list; Shinobi, Wonder Boy, Fantasy Zone and Ninja Princess are games that have kept me coming back for over 30 years and never get old. But who wants to play them on a tiny toy cabinet? And vertical games on an already-tiny horizontal screen?
Totally getting this due to a few unreleased games listed here. I hope it does well enough to warrant a second version.
Disagree with Tant R comment. These puzzle games are hugely fun and addictive and not kids play at all.
It's actually not a bad list. Probably the closest thing we'll ever get to an arcade disc
my wishlist was Cotton and we got Cotton. I'm a happy camper
Who the hell says Altered Beast is not a good game?! Even now my wife and I had allot of fun beating it and we love the art style and music.
I love Altered Beast
Could've sworn Puyo Puyo Sun would be on this thing, but then again there are no STV games on it, so at least you get the original and Tsuu to play.
*Honestly, I find the list of games too short and really underwhelming, filled with too many unnecessary entries, especially for such a small screen.*
You can have 3 different Columns games on your system... but only if you propose over 200 games in total, not if you only stick to a few dozen. And no Afterburner, G-Loc, Galaxy Force II ?
Looking forward to the release. I'm importing for the 4th episode note you give. Hopefully, they'll be encouraged to mine their arcade past in all regions
they should just make one where you hook it up to the internet and you keep buying games online for it.
I’m glad I didn’t bother with the pre-order now....this could have been so much better. Half of these look like Master System games!
The Sega Astro City Mini could be an interesting system.
I will keep it on my radar.
Eswat and Shadow Dancer, two of my first video games I've ever played
Great video sega lord love the channel keep it up
Looks nice and I'm sure there will be people purchasing two (one full set for collecting and one for using). It is a real pity 4 usb ports weren't utilized (though usb hubs work on laptops and such). One can hope and pray that the 4-player arcades will support 4 players and they will have some sort of device for that. Maybe a model 2 in the works; and yeah, genre specific would be AWESOME!
Great announcement. Money is kind of tight so I will have to sit this one out unless you invite me over for some GA2 RODA. Go Sega
The more I see this the more I want it lol...SegaMiniArcade🕹♡
OMG GOLDEN AXE 2 IS ON THIS SYSTEM!? I LOVE It! THE CENTAUR GIRL IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER OF THE ENTIRE SERIES! She was NEVER on the home system!
Overall a solid lineup, all things considered. Yea, some games could have been left out for others. But I like to get it for Revenge of Death Adder and the other arcade ports that never seen a home release.
Big fan of original Wonder Boy. Glad Sega has returned to it despite that style of game now being more associated with Adventure Island
... Adventure what? Never heard of it. :)
Probably one of my top 20 arcade games of all time. Still trying to 1cc it to this day.
Apparently I've been living under a rock 😶
I ordered it just for the sweet controller. I got the cab too, but man that controller gets me excited.
Baku Baku Animal would have been nice to see but I'm all over this due to the Wonder Boy games and Revenge Of Death Adder.
virtua fighter, shadow dancer & thunder force, I am sold :D
Looks great, Not going to get it though, but if that arcade stick is pc compatible I might get one
I wish they represented the early 3D era a bit more, but I'd be happy with the lineup if I was considering buying one. I'm curious as to what it could do if/when it gets hacked. Sonic The Fighters or Fighting Vipers would be killer
Dear SEGA, PLEASE release this in the US.
Revenge of Death Adder and Golden Axe both Arcade perfect? Where do i throw my money?
Man, glad to see you back. Hope you are all right.
I’m good. Thanks for the kind words.
@@SegaLordX No, thank you for taking the time and effort of putting out the video, especially on these troubled times. We all appreciate your work.
I got the English version from Limited Run. I missed out on the controller. I wonder if the Japanese controller will work with the system?
I've been living under a rock.
I think I was under a rock! :) Nice hardware.
I completed revenge of death adder for the first time during lockdown. It was bloody awesome 👍🏼
She's a winner for sure. I don't think many people in this comment section have played it.
So bets on how long before it gets hacked? with snes, nes... genesis and a bunch others
I give it a month
I'm sold for this mini device.
Also, the list of arcade games is great but
A: They should've add SegaSonic the Hedgehog (System 32, which was an arcade-exclusive Sonic game, although having two games with the word "Sonic" in the title might confused the hell outta people otherwise) and Heavy Metal (System 2, an underappreciated yet interesting arcade game by Sega in the 80s which never ported on home systems) instead of Alex Kidd in Miracle World and My Hero.
And B: It seems that this device goes a bit overboard with puzzle games, don't you think?
But then again like you said, puzzle games are popular in Japan.
But other than that, as a Sega arcade fan, I will definitely gonna buy the Astro City Mini.
I must have lived under a rock because I didn't hear about this.
Or maybe I just suck at it...
linking 4 minis for driving games would rock.
daytona, sega rally, sega gt, desert tank.
aside from vf, there is nt much here.
I have the gen mini, I d like saturn and dreamcast now.
guardian heroes, skies of arcadia, fighting vipers, vf2.
good show!!!
You've just saved me some money. I've cancelled my order although there are a handful of great games, I don't know why they had to fill the roster with crap like 3 versions of Columns!
I might just pick up a controller or two, I absolutely love the design of it and I bet I could get it working with emulators
