Luigi with that bboy style was dope. He didnt feel the need to distract or look away from his opponent, rocked the beats, more than just moves. Very pleasantly packaged sets with a freestyle, versatile, targeting element mindset. The other guy was busting some dope combos tho, if they fusioned it would be crazy dope. Lil Luigi Rock
They weren't uprocking, they were toprocking. Uprocking is a totally different dance of doing "jerks" and going down in to a squat position on a part of the beat with gestures on the upbeat. People who call toprocking "uprocking" are people who don't know about bboying, especially if you're going to say the crowd has anything to do with a battle's winning decision, because not all of the crowd is going to know what wins a bboy battle.
I've seen Lil Roc in FSS 7, Who can Roast the most battling Boo Rock, also Dyzee, and in numerous youtube vids, and I've never seen him once ever do anything other than basic toprock that lasts for only one second before he just jumps in to ten different acrobatic moves. He can't dance, he can win in a trickster exhibition, but he can't win a bboy match based on bboying.
Ou maan, I wish i could see this battle in better quality, even tho... this battle looks so energetic and fresh! :) The reel soul is coming out here! :) Nice Luigi!
like dj's from the past to those from the present... it doesn't mean you have to resort to ol skool... it means to battle with all you have up your sleeve...and by the way the crowed does make a huge impression on contest judges...
awesome battle. Luigi with the style, original and on beat, one of the GOAT in Bboy history. Lil Rock with dynamic, hard move and creative move transition. Hiphop in this time and early 2000 is best
btw, 4 years later this is STILL one of the hypest 1 on 1's ive ever seen. props to both because they both MURDERED this battle. my opinion on the victor is just that. an opinion.
This is the age old debate of powerheads vs style rockers. The debate says: A style rocker is a true bboy because he is a true dancer by dancing to the beat, with no need for as much power, flash, and flare (not to be confused with flares). While the powerheads believe that power is necessary armament to win the overall battle, like in military using the big guns/bombs to win. Either way, this was a good battle, and I personally side with style over power. So, I humbly believe Luigi took this.
If we are going to get down to basics and science like you are trying to do, think of this. Before everyone started trying to be a bboy because it was "cool," before guest bboy judges, and how-to videos, the crowd/audience has always decided who was the best dancer. Bboying in its purest form is ....a dance. A good judge takes the crowd's reaction into consideration also.
Even in the ghettos, the crowd didn't decide the winner, no winner was announced, the guys who bboyed knew who won, or thought they knew who won, even if they were wrong, or right. A good commercial dance competition judge like "Dance Fever" on channel ABC or something, takes crowd reaction in to consideration, not underground bboying.
@trurock1 I agree with nearly everything you said. except..... i'm curious to know why you think Lil Rock didnt win the battle? I feel like his power moves were way more advanced, hype, and versatile.
no need for sportsmanship. bboying isnt a sport. though, i dont think lil rock won this battle, i also dont think anything is wrong with having a cocky attitude during battles. i know plenty of guys who havent gotten any fame and are still arrogant and rude in battles. thats how its supposed to be. its a battle. not an "exchange of dance solos"
i don't know man both were really good in different aspects. I really like luigi's style and toprock because it was fresh and unique. Lil rock had fairly good top rock and basics too but he focused more on the blow ups that really had a dynamic presentation. I can't say that one is better than the other but I think i enjoyed watching lil rock more but both bboys are great
Luigi did go down once or twice putting a little uprock in to his tops, but they were toprocking. Luigi commanded respect, by just doing his thing, style, and dancing, regardless of what Lil Rock threw at him. He didn't feel the need to overdo some big fancy move just to outflash Lil Rock, because this dance is not about just flash and doing the most flexible circus move, it's about riding the break, thus "break boy b-boy," as its name is. And Luigi rode the break and his movement
"All of killafornia tend to have attitude issues"< Man that's their battle style, they dance hard and come at you. But some of my happiest old school bboy memories happen to be with different killa4nia members. I didn't know 'em personally, but I remember Lil Rock helping me with tips for how to complete my gainers, and I remember first meeting Tales at some converted mexican restaurant hip-hop (or maybe house?) club and chilling and bboying. I seem to remember Tales' main move he was working on at the time was the hopping one handed handstand. But you know, I don't think I can really recall any true bboys that didn't have respect for the art, and other practitioners. You can't dedicate that many man-hours(years?) of your life towards something without being rooted in respect and appreciation for what you do.
What if a bunch of non-experts were sitting in a figure skating competition, does it matter if they yell for one rather than the other? What matters is the expert judges, who know the art well enough to have the appropriate knowledge to judge it based on proper rubric.
was to the music, while Lil Rock would flip around and putting in some footwork in their just for fillers, rather than it being the ground built upon. So Lil Rock wins, if this was a circus gymnastic yoga match, or a rehearsal for a Christina Aguilera music video.
both of them are good, but damm lil rock got more moves. sick. UMM lil rock used to top rocking back 1999 and 2000 he used to be rocksteady crew. I don't why he left rocksteady and went to killafornia.lols
I think luigi took it, he killed every beat. He's musicality is amazing, the moves and the way he pulls them fit whatever song the dj's playing. Lil Rock was sick too, great combos but imo luigi won. btw can anyone tell me the name of the first song? Peace
Man ... this crowd is probably Lilrock's Family! what the hell is goin on i don't know luigi do his best and nothing comes up but if lilrock do HEADSPIN they are going on fire!
lil rock might as well danced with earmuffs on. he was intense, but intensity doesn't win battles in my opinion. luigi rocked the beat well and was more consistent. both bboys did their thing!
Bboys like Ken Swift would battle for respect, or if someone came on their block or area all cocky. After battling each other, if Swift won, and the other guy thought he won, didn't matter, no winner is officially announced, you just "knew." And sometimes if a guy knew he was losing, he would get angry and it would turn in to violence. But there were others who would acknowledge if they knew they got burned and beat. And again, it's toprocking, not uprocking.
Lil Roc is NOT being disrespectful... hes battling and bboy'in. When your in competition you are not friends with who u are competing with. u meet him outside the circle, and he shows all respect. Word. Lil Roc rocked this battle. Know your history
deffinately different styles. Lil rock seem to have a chip on his shoulder, and was just going for it. Loved his move at 1:28. where as Luigi was more composed doing sum nice top rock and uprock. Both bboys were dope - I suppose it depends on what style u like to judge who won that. Peace!
Luigi also has a more smooth toprock with more variation, and more variation and crispy footwork. If it was all about just tricks, there are Shanghai Chinese opera children who do crazier moves, and can hold one hand handstands on top of a small pole, with their back arched and both feet grabbing their face, while the other hand is cooking a pot of fried rice. They have crazier moves, does that make them bboys, or better bboys? No, it doesn't.
Back in the day I would have went with lil rocks blow ups, today I see that lil rocks dance looks incomplete and his lack of respect towards luigi looks like more.......bark is bigger than ur bite type shit. If he would have out danced him in any set, his arrogance would have stood for something. I understand rock as a Cali head we looked down on luigi's style. But now I see that a winning bboy must have both things
i think lil rock did about 4 headspins...no uprock or floorwork to speak of either...but he did have really creative and difficult tricks. Luigi had the whole package, luigi wins. I actually thought Lil rock would win this, but he didnt.
The crews out of Korea that win are usually, Rivers, and Drifters, and those guys don't just do moves, they break to the beat and have good foundation. I'm not saying one has to only do foundation, I say do everything, but do it to the principles of riding the break and every part of the music, with foundation as the core. And Lil rock is better than Luigi in tricks and power, but Luigi hits more parts and details of the music, whereas lil rock only hits the surface beat.
Just like a basketball player can't bring out a basketball on to a football field and shoot it on to the touchdown expecting to score a point, regardless if he's Michael Jordan or not.
he repeated 3 rounds of headpins, he messed up at the end, and he lost his head at the end..so i'm gonna have to give me to my man luigi for falling thru.
No question...Lil rock blew Luigi away. I'm all for rocking the beat but neither's bboy's uprock was that impressive this time, which leaves it just to moves. Luigi commanded no respect from the crowd nor his opponent. Lil rock was shocking and explosive. LiL Rock -hands down
@cdouce34 because power moves are just one aspect of this very diverse dance. Luigi had more versatile rounds by doing toprock, go downs, footwork, power, and freezes in EVERY round and didnt crash at all until the 4th round where lil rock got in his way. lil rock did a drill in two different rounds and crashed both times. the second round he gave away because he only did two moves. (hand spin headspin). Lil Rock's POWER may have been more impressive, but power alone doesnt win battles.
@trurock1 true spoken like a true dancer and cockiness is really needed in krumping and battling period you have to stand your ground and tell the other guy your good but im better than good
Luigi Danced Lil rock performed You need to have musicality as a bboy not just a bag of tricks to fall back on and a lack of respect. Lil rock needs to mature and learn to top rock...then he can become great.
from wat i understood bout this battle was that though lil rock had better moves,he is jus a breakdancer and this was a bboying match, luigi truly showed bboy skills....i thought the same as u but now u no y
luigi won thiss more complete setss nice floww to musicc ,.. lil rock kept doin power after power no floww did head spin almost every set both sickk though
In my opinion, Luigi proved to be the better bboy here. He was dancing and had flow where as it seemed Lil Rock throwing a whole bunch of moves at him. I mean, Lil Rock has some impressive moves but, moves alone doesn't do it.
Luigi stood by and watched whilst lil rock danced apbut when luigi danced he joked in his face and stood in the way. What a rude badsterd. Luigi is still the best and plays fair!
Eh, I've seen Luigi do better, but Lil Rock took this. Also, physically mocking your opponent is a great way to downplay their sets. Rude or not, it works and if shit can be easily imitated/executed it's likely to be called out during a battle.
alot of you havw very good views for what you saw in the video but lil rock did take it... i've seen him first hand uprock, toprock and, power move... his style has changed many ol skool ways but he creates the music and soul that exist within it and has brought out that of the new generation...
But as for bboying, Luigi won, hands down. Michael Jordan can do amazing free throw distance slam dunks all he wants, good for basketball, but it's not going to win him any football touchdowns doing that. So judge what's being judged upon its correct criteria.
@OriginalityWhatever fuckin right. but i say, luigi much better. style is the most important thing in DANCING. lil rock got some good moves, but luigi's delivery is much much better
yo why r ppl calling lil rock a dick? They were battling lol... I don't really like it when ppl battle like that, but it's alright since it's a battle lol.
This battle would be a classic rematch 2021.
both incredible... and different style , much different.... cant be judged...
STOP HATIN ON lil ROCK HIS STYLE IS POWER AND HE BEEN DANCIN FOR LIKE 20 YEARS HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS SHUT UP AN DANCE!!
Lil Luigi Rock

like dj's from the past to those from the present... it doesn't mean you have to resort to ol skool... it means to battle with all you have up your sleeve...and by the way the crowed does make a huge impression on contest judges...
i love how Lil Rock completely ignored the music. you gotta bring some than just tricks to hang wit someone from Flava Florida.
Mase Boogie lil rock is my man my dad
awesome battle. Luigi with the style, original and on beat, one of the GOAT in Bboy history. Lil Rock with dynamic, hard move and creative move transition. Hiphop in this time and early 2000 is best
Props to Lil Rock for blowin it up and props to Luigi for keepin it safe
btw, 4 years later this is STILL one of the hypest 1 on 1's ive ever seen. props to both because they both MURDERED this battle. my opinion on the victor is just that. an opinion.
I realize I am kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online?
This is the age old debate of powerheads vs style rockers. I never see anyone look as pissed off during a battle as Lil' Rock. Every battle it looks like the other dude just punched his mother or something.

wow! Lil rock used to be rocksteady. I'm seeing two Rocksteady battling. lol

So Lil Rock wins, if this was a circus gymnastic yoga match, or a rehearsal for a Christina Aguilera music video.
@CookedBeans55 yea you got a really good point there. if he could develop some style to compliment his power; shit would be sick.
both of them are good, but damm lil rock got more moves. sick. UMM lil rock used to top rocking back 1999 and 2000 he used to be rocksteady crew. I don't why he left rocksteady and went to killafornia.lols

Luigi took this for me. nd knowing this video is about 3 years old, i think Luigi can still take him now.
props to lil rock for dazzling moves
props to luigi for showmanship

i really think Lil Rock took it, he was more energetic. yes, he repeated some moves, but i still think he was more crowdy and xplosive!
i think lil rock did about 4 headspins...no uprock or floorwork to speak of either...but he did have really creative and difficult tricks. Luigi had the whole package, luigi wins. I actually thought Lil rock would win this, but he didnt.
Luigi!!! first time see lil rock and he is dope!! but did the same moves a couple of times but like I said he is dope....I say luigi.
The crews out of Korea that win are usually, Rivers, and Drifters, and those guys don't just do moves, they break to the beat and have good foundation. very dope battle...
anyone know first track in this battle?
he repeated 3 rounds of headpins, he messed up at the end, and he lost his head at the end..so i'm gonna have to give me to my man luigi for falling thru.
Dam I love luigi But Lil rock had that one v.v but he was really rude :/
Lil rock killed it!...butt...he didnt even dance it was all tricks! props to luigi
Great battle!
Lil Rock KILLED IT. BTW if his bboy name is Luigi shouldnt he be wearin green...
yeah, but i was painting at the event, not competing.
lil rock is pretty good but luigi held his own so its all good
No question...Lil rock blew Luigi away. I'm all for rocking the beat but neither's bboy's uprock was that impressive this time, which leaves it just to moves. Luigi commanded no respect from the crowd nor his opponent. Lil rock was shocking and explosive. LiL Rock -hands down

@trurock1 true spoken like a true dancer and cockiness is really needed in krumping and battling period you have to stand your ground and tell the other guy your good but im better than good
Hard to beat Lil Rock when all of his moves are hitting
DOPE battle.. close.. neither got "smoked" luigi took it i think
Luigi Danced
Lil rock performed
You need to have musicality as a bboy not just a bag of tricks to fall back on and a lack of respect. Lil rock needs to mature and learn to top rock...then he can become great.

what's the song for the first part of this battle?
In my opinion, Luigi proved to be the better bboy here. He was dancing and had flow where as it seemed Lil Rock throwing a whole bunch of moves at him. I mean, Lil Rock has some impressive moves but, moves alone doesn't do it.
4 me ... Lil Rock is the winner :D:D amazing spin on airchair :D that was minted :D
but anyway, very good battle ;) good work both of them :)
Just cause someone does standardized movements doesn't mean they have more soul or flavor. Lil Rock won.
"dont trash talk unless you can do better than what your hatin on" which rock cant.
Luigi killed lil Rock. Cancel Christmas.
Luigi was b-boying. Lil R-o-c-k ? I guess I missed the rock part.
- Tolin OTB Flow Mo
i only saw one bboy in that battle
Lil Rock footwork = 0, toprock = 0...I dunno how u all think he took this ? Luigi hands down...killed it man !
@trurock1 yup.. He was. but lil rock was so young then...
Lol idk y but little rock is dressed like a tourist Lol
Luigi took it. No question.
also, why did Lil Rock make fun of Luigi's toprock lol, Luigi's toprock is way better
3:27 to 3:32 was dope
Lil Rock = Rude person, awesome dance moves
Luigi = awesome person, awesome dance movies
so basically luigi is rocks lil rocks socks =P
but they weren't even good headspins ... haah
Luigi !!!
I guess Lil Rock still has a Lil brain.
alot of you havw very good views for what you saw in the video but lil rock did take it... i've seen him first hand uprock, toprock and, power move... his style has changed many ol skool ways but he creates the music and soul that exist within it and has brought out that of the new generation...
@trurock1 I understand what you are talking about. But it's not a battle, it's just a competition.

lil rock got him in the begining with that hand spin i think lil rock won
@OriginalityWhatever fuckin right. but i say, luigi much better. style is the most important thing in DANCING. lil rock got some good moves, but luigi's delivery is much much better
lil rock rocks :D
lo q hace LUIGI es BREAKEDANCE. LO q hace lil Rock es gimnacia artistica,,q diferensia...LIL ROK te hace falta mas BREAKE a vos
