Let me know if I missed anyone or if anybody should be added to the list!
This is a cover of an Edith Piaf song, a french artist from the 40s and 50s. It was written in 1945, but Grace brought a completely new, different arrangement and character to the song, both versions are beautiful. ✌🌹
Grace Jones definitely deserves more recognition for her contribution to the music industry.
My favourite Grace Jones song ❤
Slowly...over the years...this has become my favorite Grace Jones song. Absolutely 💯 a different vibe from her Uniqueness
me too!
@deborahpaley21 Was it a slow burn 🔥 or did u have that EUREKA MOMENT lol 😆????
@@saucythanos4490 Actually it was immediate. I loved the album this was on (Portfolio), memories of time and friends....
I love watching you go from the In Living Color spoof first impression of Grace Jones to slowly realizing what an amazing artist she is. This one was truly beautiful and you're right it is from 1977.
Well put!
Grace takes the song to another level and makes it her own with this unforgettable version from 1977. A masterpiece.
This was played so much on the radio in 1980 but i never got tired of it.
Grace Jones has always been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Grace gonna do Grace, Alright. Her style and her own damn way
Hey zena yup so true and unapologetic too 🥰🥰
@@wakeupstopsleeping6300 exactly 💯 unapologetic. I respect her for it. You see how she was in Boomerang 🪃 movie. Unapologetic
Edith Piaf made this cabaret classic a hit and Grace did again in the disco era. We loved hearing this in night clubs in the eighties, it transported us to another place & time. Thank you for the great song reaction JJ!🌹🎶🌹🎶🌹🎶🌹🎶🌹🎶🌹🎶🌹🎶🌹🎶🌹
You were correct in your saying it was before 80:s. Released in 1977.
👏🏾👏🏾💯☑️💃🏾🎼🎵🎶 I’ve always adored this cover!
@@SopranoSistah 🎶♥️🎶🌹🎶
It was a 1977 song one of my favorite by her because you can really hear her talent in this i remember it as a kid in the late 70s
Yes this song definitely displays her vocals love this song ok John pulling my favorite girl thank you enjoy the request ❤🥰❤🥰
❤🌹❤️🌹❤️🌹❤️
@@johnneils9084 🥰🥰
This is the best cover of this song for me
Love this song it makes me sentimental!!! I miss the 70’s and 80’s!!!!
me too
Grace took an old Edith Piaf classic and turned it into her own classic.
What about Josephine Baker?
I really like Grace Jones' cover of La Vie En Rose , a fabulous French song from after WW 2. Everyone has done a cover of this from Louie Armstrong to Lady Gaga, but I like this & didn't think I would.
Definitely one of my favorite songs by her!
First record first hit.A masterpiece.
agreed, this song just makes me so emotional
Sampled for Shyne's "Bonnie & Shyne" f/ Barrington Levy. The title track Nightclubbing, off the same album was also sampled for another Shyne song.
This song is from her album "Portfolio" from 1976. My favorite GJ album, it's amazing, a real feel for the mid 70s sound. Disco-y with some Broadway sounds, etc. I think you're looking a greatest hits album. Look at the rest of the Portfolio tracklist. You should remember she had a huge gay fan base, and this is all pre-AIDS of the early 80s when everything flipped on it's head. The 70s is a time capsule of freedom and hedonism and joy, glad I was there.
Don’t know how I missed this before….outstanding request.❤❤❤❤
On my playlist 🔥
this song was really different for Jones who got her start doing disco. This song is considered a standard..even Donna Summer did a version of it.
I think I heard this song played in Spike Lee's Summer of Sam. It has a nice groovy beat as oppose to Louis Armstrong's version or the original song. But I like all three.
This is from her Disco era, prior to the Compass Point records: (Grace in her prime) Warm Leatherette-Nightclubbing-Living my life... Hence the different sound. My favorites from her Disco years are I need a man, On your knees, Sinning, and Repentance. And there's another beautiful old french song called Les feuilles mortes (Autumn Leaves) that she covered in the 70s, worth listening! I recommend also her last record (Hurricane, 2008) which is a masterpiece and all reactors ignore 😡.
This song is a cover from Edith Piaf, "La vie en rose" means Life in pink.
Played in the movie SABRINA with Audrey Hepburn.
Great song by a Unique artist, nice to hear that track again it's been a while, you obviously enjoyed it, I've seen that face before is another great song that's not your typical 80s sound you associate her with❤
Heard this one before beautiful song 🎉
Im from Belgium and I speak French just if you want to know. And I prefer the cover of grace Jones ! Big up as usual just jammin’
adorable accent in french.. very early 80s..
and a wonderful rearrangement
Love this song 👍
No woman no cry
This was done in France by Edith Piaf years earlier. Rumor has it that Tom Moulton had recorded a whole album of musical background tracks. Along with Vince Montana. This is actually almost pure Philly! Done in the 70s!
