The mount for the landing gears aren't that good so it made for an interesting landing! But I also wanted to show a fun flight where I toss this Ugly Stick around.
Mount the LG to a plywood or plastic plate, shove a barbeque skewer through the body and add a couple of rubber bands. Hinged or pool noodle foam block at the back. Good landings, plenty of give. Bad landings, it just flips off (and back on!) Save the "nice wooden propellers" for display time in the shed! ;-) Oh and keep the audio volume up. I don't know any of those bad words in any Nordic language yet. :D Best wishes to you and yours for the silly season, mate! 🙂
So, you're describing how to fashion some sort of breakaway LG? I'm not picturing what you're describing. Could some type of Velcro breakaway LG be made to work on this plane? I'm thinking the metal struts bolted to a longish strip of plywood and then the plywood Velcroed to the bottom of the fuselage. Would something like that work?
@@SunriseRCAviator 😁 Always wanted to take the train ride to Hell, but was never able to make it during my visits to Europe. Lots of folks always advised me to go! 😉 Interesting to see that the Norwegians have to go through it to get to Sweden. 😜😊
@@BillKisel Yep, Bill. Lots of folks have used a similar system with velcro. Much better than ripping the guts out of the plane on a rough landing! 🙄 Using rubber bands just lets you adjust the tension before it all peels off. I'm a fan of rubber bands since my FMS SuperEZ shed its wings on the first flight excursion into the greenery. 😜😁 Re-attached with rubber bands and bamboo skewers and good as gold ever since. 😊

My Durafly Ugly stick Landing gear ripped off a long time ago - just a normal landing and ping it was gone - once glued back in place its been fine ever since - but I have thought about removing it all together and just hand launch and belly land - Might do that if the Landing gear ever comes off again.. it is a nice flying aircraft - simple and as you say great flying time....
Unfortunately, this plane is and has been out of stock for a long time here in the USA. I've put my email on the HK notify list many months ago but have heard nothing. Now, after viewing this video, I'm really concerned about the landing gear. I'd really like to see your fix for this weak spot on the Ugly Stik. Ps. I might just have to look into building the Flite Test Simple Stik.
I love Ugly Stiks, I built three years ago. Midwest kits. Great flyers!
