Fact : the name LaRonde is not only theme parc related. The island it sits on was named l'Île Ronde (The Round island) before the Universal exposition of 1967. The part of the island the theme park is on is man made. The ground was taken from the digging for the Metro opened in 1966. (There was two other tiny islands). They renamed it St-Helens
Not quite. I'Île Ronde (Round island) was destroyed by blasting, and the crater it left behind became Dolphin Lake--what you see in the middle of La Ronde. The land that La Ronde sits atop was an artificial extension made to Saint Helen's Island. For the record, Saint Helen Island has been there for centuries, it just got north and south made-man extensions built for Expo '67 world's fair. There is even a fort built on it dating back to the 1820's! Going further back, got its name over 400 years ago, by the French explorer Samuel de Champlain! Lots of history before La Ronde. :)

Dude, Monster was wicked - that's a true wooden roller coaster, Holy Cow!! The park seemed nice to me and huge. OMG, Tim Hortons, my favorite 😂 Oh no, RIP Avengers hat 😕
From someone who is still living close to Montreal. The History (the origin in 1967) of this park is a great story (the Ste-Helene island is man made)... But you put the fingers on how it is today... But Montreal itself is much better then what this park has become... Keep up the great work Jojo!
Interesting trivia, the island that you are on is man made. Back in 67 when they created LaRonde for the world fair (Expo '67), Montreal also dug all the tunnels for the Montreal Metro (subway system). All the earth they dug up for the metro, they dumped here to create these Islands. Pretty clever if you ask me.
I think you nailed it La Ronde is a nice local minor league theme park ,for locals ,and since there is no other competition around ,they are kind of stuck in the 90's. Maybe i'm wrong ,but a lot looks like when we were going there 30 years ago
Sending prayers for you and your family! That Monster looks insane. Seeing that the vehicles have cushions on the sides was a clue it would be a rough ride. Fellow Great Adventure Junkie here, living on Long Island, it was so close!
You are a real trooper, a mixed bag of fun and JoJo’s adventure,I didn’t see anyone wearing a hat on that ride….You should travel with your sister, she puts a lot of fun in any park…So sorry to hear about your grand pa…

Just saw your Tokyo Disney video..now this one and I have to say…you need the Google translate app on your phone! Point your camera at foreign language text and it translates in place. Super helpful. Thoroughly enjoying your content!
Monster felt that old and rickety in the 90’s. I can’t believe it’s still standing. The salt and pepper shaker ride was terrifying too. Best part of the LaRonde from that time was a tiny movie theatre that showed a Jurassic era dinosaur movie with 3D glasses and moving seats
Lots of good memories here that's for sure we got passes when we go I lived in Montreal for a few years when I was younger with them all when my nanny was sick with her cancer
I could definately tell you were losing energy as each minute the vlog went by. Glad you are okay. Enjoyed the video as always, just worry about you not getting enough rest! Have a great day JoJo!
I went on The Monster in the 90s when I was about 11. It scared the hell out of me! It's thrilling cause it's a wooden coaster and it's so high but feels unstable. They actually had a lot of sketchy rides in the early 90s before modern restraint systems were a thing. Cool to see you visit this park! I'm from Toronto.
The last time I visited La Ronde (as in entered and went on rides) was 43 years ago, long before Six Flags took it over. Sadly it's drastically changed since then, and not for the better. Most of the classic rides, like the monorail, log flume, panoramic tower, 19th century merry-go-round, original roller coasters and gondola lift have either been removed or shutdown. What remains is in poor condition, and everything is rusted and dirty. It has a more traveling carnival vibe than major theme park.
As a resident of Montreal with seasons passes to La Ronde (I have two kids) this is a pretty fair and accurate review. I haven`t been on the Monster in years because the wait times are always horrendous. Goliath, Endor, Swings and Vampire takes a full day. LMAO.
JoJo, I went here for the 1st time last week and really enjoyed it. I haven’t been to the old Six Flags parks in years and Six Flags New England and Great Escape doesn’t have many of the traditional Six Flags rides. Le Monstre was my favorite. I grew up with Rolling Thunder and that started a love for Bill Cobb’s coasters. This one was just as much fun as RT, the Cyclone at New England and the old wooden coaster from Boardwalk & Baseball. It was great to finally get back on Batman. It’s still my favorite invert and easily the most powerful! It was also nice to get on Goliath. I’ve gotten used to Candymonium, but it was nice to get back on a big old airtime machine! Jojo, if you went to Dorney, you’ve been on Thunderhawk, which is much older.
There you go! Very honest review. Not the best. Not the worst. It's good for the locals. Don't plan your trip to MTL around it, let's just consider it an extra topping on your poutine! ;)
I’ve been to larond twice once in 1967 as it was part of Expo 67 I was 10. I also was there in 2013 to go to the Firework Festival which was great. The Biosphere as well as the casino (which was the Japanese building) were part of Expo. I did find the park different
Certain businesses usually have specific types of ratings. Chiropractors usually have 5 stars a lot. Medical clinics have usually bad reviews. Etc. For theme parcs, we'll I guess they have quite some negative reviews. Families, with familial feuds, frustrations, money spent for all members, ends up only fun for the kids. I haven't been to LaRonde in decades, attractions were quite fun. And I've seen they added a few interesting big ones since then. Sure, it must still be fun. And I think the price itself is lower than 25 years ago.
I think SF LaRonde is rated lowly because there is nothing unusually extreme ... the highest, steepest roller coaster .. .. One extreme that is there is a low elevation, LaRonde is an island at tidal sea level; I'd say it's the world's lowest thrills park.
You should check out the Great Escape in Lake George. It's about 3 hours south of there, and it's.... slightly better. LOL Full disclosure, it's my childhood park.
Marineland & there’s an amusement Park in Calgary, that takes the cake. I’ve been to Laronde a few times, biggest issues with the place was parking. Every time I’ve gone it’s been during the fireworks festivals, Which I gotta say, did enhance the visit.
Jojo, so sorry about your grandpa dying! Not a fun trip to go to! 🙁 So glad you have great memories of him when you were little! 🥲 Blessings to your family as you go through this sad time! 🙏😥💔❤️🩹
Sorry for your loss. It's not a Bloody Caesar, it's just a Caesar. Also, you can use your phone to translate the signs. Websites in other languages, usually have settings to change to English.
This park is mostly a nostalgic and historic park now a days! It’s nothing like the modern day park I mean look at the roller coaster made of wood, was once the biggest wooden coaster at one time I believe 😂 this was our summer growing up in Montreal…oh the memories!!! It’s a park that’s an example of what used to be one of the greatest parks for it’s time before crazy technology created crazy rides 👍 Seagulls are the park’s mascots 😂🤣

As a Canadian french person who live’s in Canada in Québec, I would say that our language this last few 15 years is getting weak. What I mean is, there is many people who come to live here but they don’t want to try to speak in french, and we always translate for them… I know French is not easy to learn, it’s not even always easy for ourselves (the worst his learn how to write😅), but everyone can do it, you just need practice like anything else! If you try to say just a few words in french, this is already great! The sad thing is, I think that by 2050, French language will no longer be the first language of this province, because it is already happening. But I’m happy to hear that your grandfather lived here and loved it! May he rest in peace! I hope you had a good day at La Ronde and enjoy all the places you can go in Québec!😁
Dinoland is not new it's just a rebranded Ribambelle. The section itself has been there for years. We also lost our Log Flume because of the cost of repairs. They took it out and left us with the basic "up and down" Splash.
Dorney and knobles are hands down my favorite places because I also grew up going. Knobles by far though for the atmosphere and the free admission, parking.
15-20 years ago, it was a great park. At one point in time they had an aquarium there. It went downhill when Six Flags took over.

everyone just staring at you vloging was so funny omg 😂 😂
But he got a Free Flash pass out of it. 👍
One guy in line was giving him a death stare. I would be scared people would think I'm filming kids.
Île Notre-Dame is nan made. Not Île Ste-Helene.
We mainly listen to american music yes :p i grew up on 90s country. Reba, tim mcgraw, alan jackson, dixie chicks, rascal flats.
I think you nailed it
La Ronde is a nice local minor league theme park ,for locals ,and since there is no other competition around ,they are kind of stuck in the 90's.
Just discovered your channel (when you were at D23)..and have been binging your videos since.
That wooden roller coaster looks really epic, worth the visit just for that
Lots of good memories here that's for sure we got passes when we go I lived in Montreal for a few years when I was younger with them all when my nanny was sick with her cancer
I’m sorry for your loss I hope everything is well for you and your family
Great video. So sorry for your loss. Thanks for posting this. Have a nice day.
I’m sorry for your loss, JoJo
Sorry for your loss.
It's not a Bloody Caesar, it's just a Caesar.
Also, you can use your phone to translate the signs.
Websites in other languages, usually have settings to change to English.
Yeah he didn't know his way around with the apps, it does have a English version.
So sorry for your loss! Welcome to Montreal though and didn’t know your family was from the same neck of the woods! Super cool!
Sorry about your hat. I was so proud of having mine like yours. It’s my favorite too. Just a hat but they’ve never brought it back. Yours was faded like mine. I hope they start selling it again, ❤ thanks for the videos JoJo🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽 I sport my hat to any Disney trip.
Montréal loves you back!❤
The hell with those flash prices, I would just wait in line.
Sorry for your loss ❤ the park actually looked fun
Sorry for your loss I pray for u and your family god bless you
Wouldn't be mad if Disney implemented two fast passes a day for AP's!!!
Right! That would be amazing!
Dinoland is not new it's just a rebranded Ribambelle. The section itself has been there for years. We also lost our Log Flume because of the cost of repairs. They took it out and left us with the basic "up and down" Splash.
Nice reminder of my years working there back in 99
Welcome back to Canada! Sorry for the reason, but yay for having a Caesar!! 😍
Condolences to you and your family
The pastries you found are BeaverTails. Canadian pavilion bring them in for festivals.
As a rollercoaster junkie aswell and hating spinning rides . The demon ain’t bad at all surprisingly it’s pretty fun
You should do 1 theme park per state. Trying out the worst rated ones
I grew up a couple of hours from a Six Flags and went every summer. La Ronde is giving me those Six Flags vibes.
The section Ribambelle is freaking sweet!!!
Dorney and knobles are hands down my favorite places because I also grew up going. Knobles by far though for the atmosphere and the free admission, parking.
Mickey said that’s not allowed to film Walt Disney World and Disneyland
