Our sun is one of hundreds of billions of stars that make up the spiral disk of our Milky Way galaxy. In turn, our galaxy is one of a hundred billion more that we can observe in the universe.
Join Dr. Prichard as she delves into the discovery of these “island universes” and explains how many types of galaxies form.
Take a tour of our galaxy’s neighborhood, including an adventure into our prospects of interstellar travel. The exploration will reveal the ultimate fate of the Milky Way when it collides with our massive spiral neighbor, the Andromeda galaxy, in 4 billion years.
Host: Frank Summers, Space Telescope Science Institute
Recorded live on Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Really great lecture overall and I appreciate Dr. Prichard's time and efforts. Galactic astronomy is such a fascinating field, as is the history behind it. However, I wasn't really a fan of when she talked about aspects of cosmology being unlikeable or impossible to comprehend by humanity. To me, it all makes sense mathematically (otherwise it would not be the prevailing theory), and just because physics is unusual or "untidy" doesn't mean I dislike it. On the contrary, I think it makes it that much more amazing and wonderful and likeable. That's one of the reasons why I enjoy astronomy so much, because it lets me learn about unusual, extreme, and really cool physics that I can't experience here on Earth. When I'm told what I can and can't comprehend or even like, I feel very talked down to and it gets on my nerves.

They are not black and white, I’m fairly certain. There’s the visible light spectrum, ultraviolet spectrum and infrared that it can see. So, depending on what spectrum you’re using it can see different things. Visible light is very much colorful, however.

before going to the stars, we need to learn how to chase 1I/'Oumuamua. We need to learn how to use Nuclear, without the risk of catastrophic accidents, like this one: what if a 100_meter asteroid directly hits a reactor building! ( --> use advanced submarines for el.power-generation or land-based fusion). Slow down Chinese steel production (coal), use and recycle more Aluminium (for cars). Stop expanding the over-rated wind-energy euphoria. Side effects: reduction of atmospheric Coriolis, increased winds from the North to South, fewer Westerlies; increased direct transport of warm air masses to the pole and over Iceland's glaciers! Excessive wind-energy use is warming the North-Pole (Climate-calculating scientists will rub their eyes in disbelieve!)
Active atmospheric measures to cool the planet would become necessary in about 5E7 years! (Bill Gates' CaCO3-nanoparticle- project in July 2021 is way too early.)
Last, but not least, this planet's technical civilization needs long working machines: machines, that operate 4E3 years, 4000_y Let's start with clocks ( autonomous and maintenance-free ones), cars, and rugged and reliable spaceships!
At the world economic forum in Davos, the elites are discussing nonsense each year!

I have to share this here. I haven't done so much research on the following topic it is something I heard from my maternal grand dad who was an avid reader. I'm not sure even what he said was true or not but he said and I quote " la tasabu ud dah'r " my grand dad said it is what he read from a book of Ibn e razi a Muslim philosopher in the 800's. My grand dad translated it to and I quote " zamaney ko bura mut Kao Kyun Ke zamana Khuda Hai. Google the translation. But what he was saying was that when nothing existed some time was passing by. Right. I cannot help but admit that this right time still existed. So the closest to GOD is I guess time. Noone created time. Some time was always there and passing by. Now I'm not saying that time is GOD but I'm a skeptic and a believer.
How will you answer this Laura? Would love to know anyone's opinion. I would rather have a one on one conversation than give out my email address. Thanks Laura YOURE GREAT.

National Geographic some years ago that had a 2 page spread about Andromeda being the ultimate enemy of earth, since when Andromeda and Milky Way interpenetrate, earth might or might not survive.
Well, I got drawn into this vid because RUclips titled the vid as bring about Andromeda and the Milky Way. However, 10 minutes in there is no sign of that topic coming any time soon, so I'm leaving.
A list of topics and about how long each topic was going to be would have helped.
I took university astronomy, but... nope. Not intetersted yet, so bye.
