    @GrowNewPlants Why do the leaves look so different from the mature southern live oak trees? The saplings in the video have points around the parameter of the leaves where as the live oaks in my back yard have smooth, oval shape leaves.

    I love oak trees. I have many different oaks in my yard but there is this 1 tree that was a natural seedling from my neighbors very large oak tree that must have been planted perfect by the squirrels because it has grown so fast its unbelievable. This oak is maybe 20 years old and is every bit of 40 plus feet. I've never seen an oak grow so fast. It's kinda too close to the house but I still love this tree. Thank you for sharing this video.

    I am so excited I found you on RUclips. We just purchased 200 acres and I want to try and dig up as much as I can to repot since we are having timber cut for mostly fields. We have some trees called pawpaw tree that we never heard of so I researched it and tagged all of them, had our first taste of it yesterday.

    With all the trouble you have with squirrels you need to get some 2x4's & chicken wire & make yourself some cages. You should plant all those multi trunk trees. Just take your pruners & snip one off at the base.

    I have four Quartz Mountain Live Oak seedlings (Quercus fusiformis). The biggest two are maybe 8 to 10 in tall. I have them in Pro mix potting soil in 1 gallon pots. I want to move them to 3 gallon pots, but I don't know how deep to plant them. The trunks are too skinny to show any kind of flare at the root.
    Under the soil I have what looks like part of the trunk, a large tuber looking growth then what is probably the Taproot and some smaller fine root hairs coming off of it. I was hoping you had a little tree that didn't make it that you could show me the root system and give me an approximate of how deep to plant my trees so they thrive. God bless you and thank you for your videos

    I have a question… I’m transplanting over 100 white oak tree seedlings from cone shoots going in to 2 quart pots.
    I have peat moss, potting soil, worm castings I made myself, chicken manure, Blood & bone meals and Mikro-Myco.
    I need help with the portion ratios???
    I was thinking 70:30 and combining the potting soil, worm castings, chicken manure, Blood & bone meals together for 30% of the mix, 70% peat moss and just sprinkle the Mikro-Myco in their roots.

    I have 2 questions. I planted 3 oak trees from acorns with sprouted roots in a small cup in October 2021. One died before sprouting out of the soil. The remaining 2 acorns remained inside until April 25, 2022. I moved the remaining 2 acorns outside on that day, and soon after 1 of them died. Around the first day of September the last remaining oak tree got eaten probably by rabbits, with a small stub left over. Soon after, 2 side branches grew out of the remaining stem, but that main stem never grew back as of now, November 9th, 2022. For some reason my tree’s leaves are still green even though almost all of the adult trees right now are almost bare. When will my tree lose its leaves for winter? Will that main stem grow back new leaves next summer? I don’t want my tree to look like it has 2 heads.
    I’ve also planted 4 more acorns with sprouted roots this fall, all of which have succeeded and grew into healthy small trees. I will also transplant those outside next spring.

    • @anonymousfish2456
      @anonymousfish2456 2 года назад

      If it is a live oak tree they don't lose their leaves for the winter, other types of trees do but Live Oaks do not.

    So glad to learn this, thank you! The soil you’re transplanting them into looks different than the peat moss & perlite mixture. Can you explain what the difference is? Will you be pruning these at all? Looking forward to more updates & really enjoying your content!

    • @GrowNewPlants
      @GrowNewPlants  3 года назад +11

      It is different, Once into the bigger pots it is 75% fine ground hardwood mulch and 25% peat with Osmocote slow release fertilizer. I will not do any pruning for a while, the lower limbs on a tree at this stage help develop girth for the trunk so I leave them on for a while.

They have to be used before they dry out, so I was wondering if I could just put them in a baggie wet, like you have done to the acorns and then will they be germinated in the fridge in about 3-6 months and ready to plant?
