Admittedly I’m not a big Basketball fan but wasn’t Bird also dealing with high amounts of pain due to surgeries on his feet from years prior? As well as a bad back? Them Old School guys be built different.

Larry was telling Dr J how many points he had vs DrJ. He was saying 10-6, 12-6, 14-6, 20-6. When Larry got to 26-6, dr j had enough and swung at Larry after some choice words. Larry finished 38-6, that is savage!
They didn’t leave him wide open. They double teamed him.
Yeah, I was like - "You think the Lakers purposely left Larry open?" That's like saying that you just have to guard Jordan - easy to say, not easy to accomplish!

These stories are all true…we saw him in person for a decade and it’s the same thing…he called what he was going to do and did it!! No one like him before or since…a pure shooter and could shoot 3s like we breathe air, it just came naturally to him…through hard work of course and effort…Bird and MJ did a Mc Donald’s commercial where they each took turns calling their shots…✌️👌🔥

The problem with Larry was that he was a complete player and could burn you in so many ways. Double team him?- He *WILL* find the open man. Smother him? - He's just going to fake you out and hit the fade away. Cover the passing lanes because he's racking up assists? - Great! Now he's open to shoot. There was literally no way to cover him!
It's easy to be the Monday morning quarterback and say what you should do - it's harder when the guy is standing in front of you.

Bird had Jordan’s number. Checkout the videos of their games both are greats just go about it differently.
They tried to deal with Bird. He told them what he’d do because he they couldn’t stop them. They tried: some of the greatest to play the game, & couldn’t. Their defense was incredible. Bird cut them up anyway.

Worthy left Bird because Danny Ainge was wide open. He rotated to cover Ainge and LaSalle rotated to cover Bird. He later said he hit Bird on the arm as he shot the ball, but no foul was called.
Yeah, the fans would wanna hear it but it would severely mess with their paychecks if they got caught saying some of that stuff on TV lol

Did you not see future HOFer, UNC and Lakers legend James Worthy all over Bird, holding on to his jersey before Bird cut to the corner? Worthy was fast enough to get over to Bird again. Larry actually waited for him to get to him before he took that shot.
Need to go back earlier in Bird's NBA history. In 1980 the NBA would have folded. Bird entered the league in 1978, Boston only won 20 games in 1977, in 78 they won 60 games, Bird's rookie season. In 1978 the NBA finals was taped delayed because there was only 500,000 viewers.Bird comes on the scene and Boston games would have 10,000,000 viewers Same with L.A. and magic Johnson. In my books i have GOAT 1 a and GOAT 1 b. Bird and Johnson you could put them in any slot you want, main fact is they saved the NBA, no other player since can say that. If not for these 2 there would be no Jordan, James or Durrant., they would be no record of them, the NBA would be either no longer around or it would be called something else.

No, Larry would NEVER say your hair is nappy or you have ashy lips. Larry was not a racist. Larry didn't see race. Larry used to complain that the other team was disrespecting him because they had a white man guarding him. What he was saying is that they didn't think he was a good enough of a player to have a black man guard him. It would be wasting the black player's time.

It's funny how these 'reactors' say it was bad defense as if those players aren't professional players who have to second guess if it is a bluff and also as if Bird is not that good or have an impossible shot to block. Clearly didn't live through the Bird era.
Once again you need to watch games from 80’s before trashing the defense especially compared to today. Hand checks, grabbing jersey and no flagrant fouls. All chips that decade were won by best D. Watch Pistons vs Lakers finals in ‘88.
Bird was trash (talk) was so nasty. MJ wouldn’t let teammates say 1 word to Larry. Admitted his 1st lesson he learned from LB was to stay focused on game cause Bird could rattle his cage.
The video failed on Dr J fight. Larry kept running tally of points when it got to 38-6 Dr J had to throw hands. Not the 1st fight Larry started with his mouth.
